Brklyn Bakery

Lovely place for a cup of coffee and a fantastic sugar rush. There are a few tables, but more of a take away area. Had a delicious chocolate cupcake.

If I ever move to Helsinki this is gonna be my local coffee shop. First, as I said before, I’m impressed with the quality and variety of local business in Helsinki. This place is literally a gem.
Meant to be a cupcake shop from the same owners of Brooklyn Café, you will find a variety of cakes, sweets and a nice cup of coffee here. If you prefer, you can order and get your cakes to go — and even cater an event!
I stopped here for a couple of hours to enjoy a nice magazine in Swedish (yes, it did take me over an hour to read it, but I made it), and have their specialty: Red Velvet Cupcake. Décor is adorable, staff is super nice, and I had a fabulous relaxing time.
They don’t have WiFi, but if you need to work on your computer just walk two blocks to their big brother.

I don’t know if it’s the owners or just the staff but hearing an American English accent behind the counter makes me immediately feel at ease. Fumbling through Finnish at restaurants, cafes, and retail establishments makes me flustered and embarrassed and no matter how much I practice with my husband at home, it all flies out the window as soon as I’m trying to communicate with a native Finnish speaker. I secretly want to just hang out here and be friends with the girls at Brklyn bakery and speak English with them and be all American-​girly with them and leave smelling like chocolate and sugar at the end of the day but I suspect they’re kind of too cool for me.
My personal insecurities aside, Brklyn bakery has become one of my favorite places. They have gluten free cupcakes that make me feel loved and recognized (me, me, me) as the special wheat allergic snowflake I am. The GF cakes are in different flavors all the time but they are always delicious. The regular cupcakes are outstanding and kick Magnolia Bakery in NYC or Kara’s Cupcakes in SF’s ass any day of the week. The peanut butter frosted chocolate ones are of particular popularity in my house. But they’re all outstanding — just get one of each and go to town.
Brklyn’s cupcakes are the perfect hostess gift when attending dinner or a party hosted by friends and I’ve never seen a carbohydrate-​phobic person cringe at the opportunity to indulge in their delicious creations. By far the hottest bakery in Helsinki. It makes me feel at home. And being pregnant as all get-​out, I have actually cried when I’ve walked to Brklyn and they’ve been closed. They’re just that good.

Brklyn Bakery is owned by the Todd sisters — own the Brooklyn café you know? — and they do know how to treat our taste bums! I’m not lying when I say that they make the best cupcakes in Finland!
