Most likely you’ll find yourself here only if the Salty Cowboy is too busy. The good news is that the drinks are half as priced as Salty Cowboys, however the food is pricey for being Taco Bell level of quality. Their chicken dishes are decent but their steaks are really poor. In the future I would only come here for drinks.

Food is mediocre. Service is pretty bad. Atmosphere is pretty nice, if you want to just drink, but don’t count on a satisfactory dining experience. I always leave not feeling good about my experience. Go to El Rodeo.

I was hoping for a great restaurant close to home after the Greek place closed. This place is geared towards parents with toddlers-high ceilings and bland food. The first time I ate here I ordered a burrito and was disappointed. I thought I would give it a second chance, and the second time, I ordered the taco salad. I didn’t quite understand why it wasn’t served with beans and cheese if the menu said it was served with beans and cheese. The meat was bland and only served with lettuce and sour cream in a taco shell. To be honest the chips and salsa are amazing. Next time I will order differently.

Love el toro! We were disappointed with rodeo and this place is great! Have tried many things on the menu and yet to be disappointed

Having just moved from Phoenix to Zionsville lets just say my craving and search for good Mexican food in Indy was at an all time high! Happened to stumble across El Toro and have to say we were pleasantly surprised. The service is good, place is clean and attractive, and the food is really good! Plus it’s half the price of the Mexican food in Phoenix! We’ve been here several times and definitely plan on coming back!

My first visit to El Toro was average, though I was a fan of the refried beans. We returned this past week and ordered enchiladas for takeout. Exactly 12 hours after eating, my husband and I were both taken violently ill for 24 hours or more, myself more than him.(He had one chicken enchilada, I had three so we determined that this was our one common denominator.) Sorry, but no thanks. I will not be returning and I will be warning my local friends to avoid this restaurant also. Mediocre Mexican + food poisoning = a match made in hell

Pretty good food overall. Had it again tonight since moving to town and was again happy with my meal, the service and the overall experience.

I’m really surprised to see reviews that aren’t glowing on here. After years of Zionsville having only two choices for Mexican food(and both are just different locations of the same restaurant…) El Toro is a welcome addition. In comparison, its menu is FAR larger and I much prefer the atmosphere. I’ve been several times with different people and we’ve always had excellent experiences!

Our group of three had dinner on a Thursday evening. The service was SLOW. We had 3 baskets of chips and salsa before our food arrived. We had to flag down a waiter for the refills both times. My dinner partners both order the boss burrito. It’s a burrito stuffed with chicken and steak smothered in cheese, shrimp, pineapple and chorizo. I tried to tell them it was a bad idea but they didn’t listen. It was too much meat going on that just didn’t mesh well and the chorizo was burnt and very dry. I had the chicken fajitas. Our food was brought to the table minus my fajitas. I waited a few minutes thinking that maybe our waiter just couldn’t carry all of our plates to the table but ended up having to flag someone down to let them know I was still waiting on my food. The fajitas were pretty good but how can you really go wrong with fajitas? They taste just like El Rodeo’s down the street. I do like that they have coupons lol I guess that’s a perk and their menu does have some daring choices. They just need to be better executed. We will probably try them again but if they can’t get their act together soon they may not be here for long. The service needs to be stepped way up.

Nothing special. The food came quickly and was hot. Located in a former sports bar so it’s a wee bit loud. A lot of cold air came i through the door, so they should probably have a partion. Guacamole tasted store bought not home made. The margaritas tasted like Costcos

We’ve visited El Toro twice now and I must first mention that the service has been exceptional. From start to finish, the team is warm, welcoming, and friendly. As for the food, I’m generally pretty forgiving if the salsa has a little kick and the food fills me up. El Toro does that and more. Being in the«plant based» world now, I must note that there are many fine choices for vegetarians. Overall, I found this spot to be a good value and welcoming to families. And they left the sinks from the prior restaurant, so that’s a nice touch.

Authentically un-authentic. Not much flavor and the food was as cold as my Corona. Indiana is off my list for Mexican fare!

Oh my. How disappointing! Really. Zionsville deserves more. Maybe my expectations were too high for a cut above Mexican faire in the prior Oobatz location. Here goes– Atmosphere– a 10. They spent a small fortune redoing the place. Bar– Tequila choices aplenty. Maybe with enough of that you won’t notice the food. Menu– Truly a used car ad. Call it 50+ ways to leave disappointed. Salsa– good. Guac– OK. Marguerita– The best part. Salad– The usual and I guess the dressing packet delivered on a saucer killed my spirit. Fish tacos– Mostly burnt. Maybe they were supposed to be blackened. Rice and beans the usual bland, greasy stuff. Beware the half n half for your coffee. Ours was spoiled and had to be redone. I dunno. In my opinion there is too many restaurants that call their food Mexican when its just gobs of greasy, salty slop. Its not supposed to be that way. I was really expecting something more and left this fancy looking joint for the first and last time.

We went back the other night and the service was much improved. Food still good. Very fresh and not a lot of greasy refried beans and oily chips. A nice change.

Our first time visiting and overall impressed. Wait service was fine(prompt and polite), drinks were delicious and reasonably priced, and food was good. I like how it’s close to our home. We will be visiting again.

Uhhh… I’ll come back for a full review after they get their feet wet a little bit. Looking forward to trying some of their more authentic and unique dishes.

First time in new place. Food OK, service just fair. I’m always skeptical when wait staff does not write orders down. Rang true again. Waiter forgot part of order. After a long wait, I had to go up to greeting station and find my waiter with all other wait staff and manager going over hours or something. Beans were like water. Very generous portions and the rest of the meal was very good. Very professional looking place but poor management. They are going to have to up their game for the Zionsville crowd. Too much competition for a mediocre joint. I’ll stick with El Rodeo down the road in he future. The Unknown Diner says«So so».

First time here. The cheese dip was super runny. We waited to order even after placing our appetizer order. This place is not busy as the staff running around mindlessly. When waiter poured our frozen margarita he left a mess on the table and made no attempt to clean it up.
