Clever Auto Service & Towing

We were stranded on I70 with a pop up camper that had a broken leaf spring. We called AAA for a tow. When the Clever driver showed up with the ramp/​roll off truck as requested for the camper, he didn’t even get out of the truck and said «I’m not going to scratch the body of my truck with that thing.» He went on about how AAA would not approve it, but offered not to tow it without AAA. When I asked what people with stranded rv’s here on I70 near Zanesville do if they won’t be towed, he said, «There’s never been a camper stranded around here.» HUH? This is a major thorough fare through the USA. He offered no alternative, no shining lights so we could see, or one iota of help. So after «hanging around» (perhaps to see how he could work us) while we tried to cobble the frame together, mind you it’s nearing 5:00 pm and cars /​trucks zooming by at 80 miles an hour, we told him to leave. And he did.
We travel cross country twice a year and have never encountered such a display of indifference, rudeness, and lack of compassion. We found out later that there are 3 other tow services that will tow pop up campers. Stay clear of this outfit!

We had a car that died while someone was using it. We gave AAA our card number, all the information they needed so she could have it towed. Clever had a new young driver show up. Usually AAA and local tow companies are great about towing what we ask for even if the card/​license is not there. We got a call from clever s office telling us he refused to take it until my husband was there with card and license to confirm identity ect. She explained he is «AAA certified «and will not do it unless he was there with the id/​xard. We drive the 30 minutes to give him the info. My husband tried to give him the AAA card and he barely acknowledged said okay. Then my husband was going to give the ID to him and he said that he didn’t need it, the other was enough. Even though he didn’t look at it. Now, if policy is policy for our benefit, fine. But to waste almost an hour of our time and gas for no apparent reason whatsoever, is rude. Find someone else. These people do not know customer service.
