While the quality and consistency of the products offered here are very good, I dread going here due to the service. I usually come here once a week to get some items for work. It is in so many cases a frustrating experience. They seem to have huge staff turnover, and while most of the staff is very friendly, the cashier’s are painfully slow, and lacking in training when it comes to packing groceries. I frequently have to repack in the parking lot before I put my items in the car, for fear of bread and soft things being completely wrecked, along with rearranging due to weight, as they will pack all of the heaviest items in one box that would be impossible to carry. The manager’s are quick to call other(slow and inexperienced) cashier’s when the lines get long, but they rarely will jump in and help even those that are obviously struggling(even though they are standing there staring at them, usually without the slightest hint of a smile on their faces.) It is also very irritating that you have to sit there and endure the same mundane forced conversation questions about the weather(come up with some new material) with the cashiers when I just wish they would focus on the task at hand a little more intently.

If you need to host a luncheon/party for 150 people, here’s where you can get all the supplies, including party decorations. If you need a gallon of Red Hot sauce, it can be found here. Commercial size containers of condiments and a surfeit of spices! Janitorial supplies and buffet serverware and kitchen doodads such as the handy disher.(See my photos.) Get the 2 oz. size disher, and you’ll be able to whip out muffins in record time! Also does double duty as an ice cream scoop. If you cook from scratch like I do, you will cringe at all the powders and mixes that conceivably end up in restaurant food. Open to the public, unlike Sam’s Club and Costco, which require an annual membership fee.

I’ve been a customer of Gordon Foods since the 70’s, before they had stores. I love their customer service. They have helped me with Boy Scout events and other club parties.

GFS has supplied us with many quality products. Some of the specialty items are proven difficult to find any where so I can’t blame them too much. The best thing about going to this store is friendliness. I am asked to be helped EVERY single time I arrive. It makes you feel appreciated. I can’t forget to mention how clean and organized the place is. This makes you trust the integrity of the staff and quality of the food. Very important since we are purchasing for a restaurant. GFS makes me feel good in my decision to shop here. Not only that, but I run into fellow restauranteurs often here.

When my husband and I plan a bbq and/or holiday party I always shop here for supplies. The quantities are large and the prices are reasonable(similiar to Costco or Sams Club). The staff(in person or over the phone) have always been so helpful. They will explain their products, give price quotes and/or give information about their store(hours/directions, etc). Not to say anything negative about this locaton, but I really think GFS does a fantastic job of training their staff. I have been to their location in Jackson, MI and Kalamazoo, MI and have always been very impressed!

I typically go to GFS twice a week or so… usually to buy stuff for the restaurant that I work at, but I’ve been going on and off for long time. The staff at this GFS are nice and helpful… I’ll all about supporting Michigan based companies… I recommend the ‘wing dings’, they are awesome!

I like GFS it has a lot of hidden gems and good prices. For the vegan in mind I suggest a huge bag of bacon bits for $ 2 about ¼ the price of brand name bits in the store. They also carry a large tub of hummus for $ 9 that isn’t too bad. Another great item is their soft bake pretzels they come in large and normal. Vegan and actually a pretty healthy snack.

GFS is a store for small businesses, generally, but it’s open to the public and it’s good if you’re planning a big party or open house or the like. I shop here for my small business, and while I don’t think it’s necessarily the cheapest, prices are good and it does have things that other places just don’t unless I got a foodservice delivery, like from Sysco. They’ve got bulk everything… if you’re a normal consumer, and say, you bake alot, you may want to check out their bulk sugar or cocoa powder. GFS is unlike other bulk/box stores because you don’t need a membership to shop and they carry a lot of their own GFS brand, which I think is nice. Sometimes Sam’s Club still ends up being expensive because they carry a lot of name brands, and I really don’t need my flour or cocoa powder to be a name brand. GFS’s demerits: not eco-friendly(they carry mostly styrofoam take-out containers, cups, etc) and not very healthy(many many of their products contain HFCS and lots of additives)…you just have to read labels and make conscientious choices, which is why I use GFS as only one of the places I shop for my business, but as I said it is good for certain products.
