I’ve been meaning to get professional headshots for a while, but when it became a necessity, I looked around the area and settled on Chris Amos Photography. I’m very glad I did! First, Chris’ website has two of the most crucial elements: pricing and portfolio. I could see the quality of work I was going to get and how much I was going to pay for it. Sold. Second, I submitted an inquiry via Chris’ website and got a very fast(less than half an hour, I believe) callback to schedule a time. He was very accommodating with my schedule and quick to answer my questions. After the session, the quick processing turnaround time and easy access to the photos was much appreciated. One aspect I really enjoyed was that Chris really gets to know people he’s photographing for corporate shots(this probably extends to weddings, etc. I’d imagine). Their profession, how they want to come across, the kind of attitude they want to express, etc. He can then instruct and guide you so that you have the best experience possible. Chris was very efficient in bringing out my best qualities, which really speaks to his experience. My session was last week, and my great photos are already up on professional websites, sent to clients, etc. I’d highly recommend Chris’ work!

Of the many ingredients that contribute to an outstanding professional headshot, none are more important than the rapport shared by a photographer and his subject. Any photographer worth his salt will spend thousands of dollars to equip himself with a fancy DSLR camera, intricate lighting accessories, and digital editing software. The most gifted, however, possess something that you won’t even find on Amazon: a receptive, easygoing demeanor that instills comfort, confidence, and composure in clients. This is an especially vital component in headshot photography, where a session is typically one-on-one and the subject is forced to manufacture emotion under the heat of artificial lighting. Thankfully for me(and my professional future), Chris brought all of this, and more, to the table during my recent headshot session. I am in my final year of law school at U of M and needed to submit a photograph to the law firm that I’ll be working at after I graduate for their directory. I’m 25 years old, and«student» is the only career I’ve ever known, so my arsenal of professional photographs isn’t particularly large. I have plenty of pictures of myself from family vacations, school events, and college parties, but I wasn’t eager to use any of these in laying the foundation of my professional future. Some quick online research and numerous recommendations from other graduate students led me to contact Chris for help in solving this problem. From our very first exchange, I knew Chris was dedicated to working with each and every client with flexibility, care, and precision. He responded to my initial inquiry within an hour. And when something came up at the last minute that prevented me from making my appointment, he happily allowed me to reschedule at my convenience. When I finally arrived to his studio in Ypsilanti, he greeted me at the door with an unmistakeable warmth that set the tone for the rest of my session. He went through some tricks of the trade in capturing the perfect headshot, adjusted the lighting to perfectly match both my skin tone and outfit, and then positioned me in front of the camera. Like most people, I wasn’t necessarily sure what to do at first. But Chris patiently instructed me to pose in very particular ways — «tilt your head just a tad to the right» or «bring your nose down a bit.» He further helped to lighten the mood with some good-natured humor and encouragement. Within five minutes, I felt at ease. After five to ten minutes of shooting, he brought me over to his computer to go over the first batch of pictures. We joked about the ones that weren’t so great, picked out those that were our favorites, and identified the things that I could change(or continue doing) while shooting the next batch of pictures. He was incredibly patient in working with me to help bring out the elements of my personality that I wanted to visually portray in my professional headshot. Perhaps most incredible of all, Chris was overwhelmingly receptive to my stubborn request to shoot additional batches of pictures when I wasn’t entirely satisfied with the first few. People are naturally more critical of their own appearance — i.e., instantly noticing a single piece of hair that’s out of place, or even a pimple that wouldn’t otherwise be visible with the Hubble Telescope. Unfortunately I specialize in this sort of self-deprecation. Yet Chris worked tirelessly to ensure that we shot enough times for me to identify SEVERAL pictures that I loved. At the end of the day, Chris insisted, he cared most about me being happy with the experience. Needless to say, I was. If you need professional headshots done in southeastern Michigan, Chris is your dude. In talking with him throughout my session, I learned he does tons of other projects, too — automotive, wedding, etc. So for anyone needing a photographer — for practically any purpose — I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chris Amos.

To say I dreaded having a professional photo taken would be an understatement. However, I was laid off recently and I need to quickly get my professional network in order. After researching my options, I chose Chris because he is a local business, was very timely in all of his responses to me, answered all of my questions with humor and professionalism and just generally put me at ease. Chris made the process enjoyable. He explained what to expect, how to get the best shot and then tried several different angles and poses to determine what suited me. He went through each photo with me, explaining how it met or didn’t meet our goal of «warm confidence» for my LinkedIn profile. Ultimately, I chose a photo that both Chris and I felt represented my career personality. Thank you, Chris. I am happy to recommend you to anyone!
