Royal Oaks Bar & Grill

What a special treat! Excellent food, really friendly people, and highly entertaining. I would recommend this to anyone. This was like finding an accidental gem.

Been wanting to try this place out for sometime now… stopped in on a Thursday evening around 6. the bar was full most likely regulars… they had Stella on draft so my husband and I ordered up two. came out cold and tasted great. we where greeted right away and the bartender/​waitress was very nice… I ordered the royal oaks burger. the smaller size w fries. came on a fluffy white bun that held up pretty well to the juice. the burger was cooked perfect the onion ring was just an onion ring and the royal oaks BBQ was good but I actually would and will next time get the raspberry bbq… my husband got 10 raspberry wings. the sauce was great sweet but tangy and they where nice size and cooked right. would like to return and try some bbq ribs next time. for a half rack fries and a side with roll it’s like 13. that’s a steal!

I was afraid that the recent Bar Rescue would ruin the atmosphere — but thankfully that has not been the case. The Raspberry sauced ribs are still excellent, as are the wings. I’ve taken many clients and friends to Royal Oaks over the years and they have always come out satisfied and happy. It’s not in the best of neighborhoods, but outside of downtown and near YSU, there isn’t a complete neighborhood of Youngstown. Get used to it!

Love their food. Love Arlia. She’s the best. Came at night. Have been sitting for 50 mins. Still no food. Not even a full bar. Was warned a little longer but 50 mins ??? Let’s be real … 30 wings and a half slab ?? Cooool !!!

The best place in Youngstown with the best people.
Ribs and wings with raspberry bbq sauce cannot be topped. The beer is cold and plenty of conversation.
The clientele ranges from blue collar to local politicians to yuppies. The owners and bartenders always make you feel at home.
Also some great bands play here later in the evenings on some nights and the annual Pabstolutely summer concert.

I took my wife out last night and we decided to venture out to the «legendary» Royal Oaks in the heart of Youngstown. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about their chicken wings and their hot raspberry sauce. After making the drive from Howland we walk in and grab a booth. The bartender looks over and I ask him for a menu. He tells us that the kitchen is closed and the kitchen closes at 10:00pm. I looked at my watch and then looked up at him and said but it’s only 9:45? He tells me he’ll go back into the kitchen and double check. He comes back out and said closed. My reply was wow. I grabbed our coats and I told my wife let’s get out of here. We headed back home and had a nice time at Salvatore’s Italian Grill in Howland. Not a great first impression at the Royal Oaks

I am a BBQ connoisseur. This place has some of the best ribs I’ve ever had. Baked beans also were amazing and I don’t even eat baked beans. Cool atmosphere to boot.

I had the full rack of hot raspberry BBQ ribs. OMG. As a rib lover, these were some of the best ones I have had. I try to find good ribs wherever I go, but I will thank my little brother for introducing me to this place. I had wrote hands off on my leftovers and it apparently caught the eye of one of the owners, so we had a nice discussion on BBQ styles. Very friendly and a really good place for ribs. Definitely a place to come back to visit.

I got the pleasure of visiting on my return home from my college town. It’s about a 45 minute drive from our small PA town, but it was well worth it. My parents previously went, being Bar Rescue fans. I went blind, knowing that my college town’s gems were always the ones that didn’t look like much from outside.
I was not disappointed! The bartender was amazingly friendly and helped me choose what side I wanted to go with the infamous ribs and raspberry bbq. I chose baked beans and they were great! All the employees were amazingly friendly, I hadn’t watched the show so I didn’t know who was who, but everyone seemed proud to be an employee. The food and service was outstanding. I don’t know what the appearance was before, but I know it’s nice inside. I love that it didn’t turn into a place that looked like it was trying too hard to be hip, it looks like a classic bar. I can’t wait to return again, and I’ll be sure to signal boost this place.
Tip for Bar Rescue fans: Can’t decide between The Federal or here? Choose this bar! The Federal is very mediocre in comparison. My parents let me visit both and this is by far the true gem of Youngstown, OH.

I fucking love this place. Great staff, great clientele (for the most part), and most importantly, awesome greasy food! Oh ya! And great live music!

When I heard earlier this week Royal Oaks had been through the Bar Rescue treatment, my first reaction was I wonder what this absolute dive is now? Knowing where the Oaks was located, I bullet proofed my windows and armored the car for a trip over. The food was excellent, smoked ribs, not a huge fan of the sauce but unique. The wings were excellent and the beer was cold but limited in selection on draft. The prices, unlike some other BBQ places around here were reasonable. Overall, five star food and prices, but if you think you hear a car backfire while eating dinner, it was not a car. Four stars because it is not like I am going there for a late meal.

Fall off the bone ribs! Amazing BBQ flavor with a hint of raspberry! I couldn’t finish the full rack at lunch, and have been snacking on my leftovers for the past two days. I killed the coleslaw at lunch and keep wishing I had some leftover slaw to go with my cold ribs! Yummmmm!!!

I lived in Youngstown on the East side for the first 30 years of my life. I passed this bar all the time and never went in. Four day ago at the age of 51 I walked in and ordered a Rib snack and 10 wings with Raspberry BBQ sauce. My life is complete I can now die in peace. One of the many hidden treasures in Youngstown.

In 1934, «The Oaks» was established by the DeMain family, whose 6 sons and their family members ran as a busy neighborhood Tavern, frequented at all hours by local steelworkers from the predominantly Irish and Italian East Side.
It has been run by the Kennedy brothers since 2000, and recievef a complete interior makeover by the docureality show team of «Bar Rescue», so it reflects the period style of the post prohibition era of the 1930s.
No establishment has such a diverse and eclectic patronage, and best ribs in Youngstown with their signature raspberry barbecue sauce, prepared to perfection on Tuesday and Saturday nights.
Nobody is a stranger at the Oaks.

This place is a diamond in the rough. From the looks of the outside it doesn’t look promising. The food however is amazing. Like others have said, the raspberry BBQ is awesome.

Great food, great prices, wonderful people… don’t miss it. The raspberry BBQ wings and burgers are incredible!

Don’t be put off by the location or looks of the place. The food is ridiculously good! I love the hot raspberry BBQ sauce. The wings, burgers, ribs, and even fries are all excellent!

Good beer selection.
You can still smoke inside.
I think our bill was less than $ 30 for 4 people, and we were all stuffed and drunk when we left.
