Stopped here while on a long road trip. A friendly and comfortable atmosphere and amazing vegan food. The service was quicker than expected, the prices extremely reasonable, decent portions, and still really really good. My hit-or-miss stop tonight was a hit

I had the Asian vegetable wrap & stuffed pepper soup, both were delicious. My husband, a meat eater, had the mushroom burger and said it was really good. Nice atmosphere, great wait staff & a unique gift shop.

Very disappointing tonight. We called before leaving home because it’s a half hour drive and it was 7:30 already. They said they seat till closing. But when we arrived at 8(an hour before closing), we were told that they were«short-staffed» and they were only doing take out. When we said we’d just driven 30 minutes, the waitperson went to the back to «check» and another staff person came out and said we could sit there, but we would have to eat out of the take out containers. We took this to mean that they didn’t want to do any more dishes? They certainly didn’t seem interested in our business. The last time we were there the food was improperly prepared. Not sure about giving them another try…

I LOVE this place. I have family in Youngstown, and a trip to see them is NOT complete without dinner or many means at the Flaming Ice cube. I find the staff to be helpful and very accommodating for any food needs that you have. I have very strict way I have to eat dictated for medical reasons. It’s awesome to go to a place and order whatever I want off the menu. I find some food items are sort of blah, but my favorite is any of their meatless burgers. My favorite! Don’t skip dessert either… they have yet to disappoint me there. The store attached is great too, very friend staff, lots of unique gifts and items. Fun fact, you can pre order desserts if you need a bunch for an event, they are happy to oblige with a few days notice, or a week if you can swing it. Try the molten lava cake! They freeze well too!

Decently priced vegan & vegetarian friendly joint that is slightly small but with a clean dining area and a groovy gift shop. Portions of the food are a little skimpy, but offers a moderate selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. Most dishes are tasty, some not so much. Staff is typically friendly and speedy.

The service needs improved… The young waitress left me disappointed … While waiting to order to go the waitress was on the phone… We both reached for a menu on the counter top at the same time … She snarled at me took the menu and continued talking without recognizing me… Then when she was done she looked at me and stared at me… No hello or welcome… I nearly walked out… I ordered to go and even tipped her to get a response but nothing … 15 percent tip on take out… not bad., the food was decent but with help like this I wonder what goes on behind in the kitchen… I will not be back for a while…,

I am a Flaming Ice Cube regular and think the Carrot Cake is to die for. However, the last two visits were more than disappointing. Even prior to that, they made a regular habit of running out of most of the desserts before 3 p.m. These last trips however were plagued by poor service. I mean, really poor service. At one point, I was so embarrassed for the lack of attention to newly seated customers(they sat for fifteen minutes after getting just their water), that I said to them, «Is this your first visit?» When they said, no, we all commiserated on how the service had gone downhill. Ah well! I hate it though, since I am vegan and loved having a restaurant in town.

I LOVE that this place exists. Its like stepping into a more liberal, artistic city when you go here, you’ll forget your in Youngstown, all together! *Our waitress was lovely and speedy, as well as our food! I thought that they were over priced until I saw our portion sizes :-) I had the Greek wrap, which was very fresh and flavorful, HOWEVER! There was an olive pit stuck in it, luckily I didn’t bite down too hard– Or they would be receiving my dentist bill! After we finished eating, we checked out the shop next door, it’s full of all kinds of crafty and specialty gifts… they also have a knitting circle, which I thought was a bit strange… Whatever works!

I discovered the Flaming Ice Cube several years ago, when researching the Youngstown area for a possible job move. I had not been there in a couple of years, but remembered it as having great food with a really homey atmosphere. I returned today, and my memory served me well. They have some of the best vegan food I have ever tasted. While I’m a vegetarian, few carnivores could be served this food and complain… at least if they didn’t know it was vegan! I had the Pesto Burger with a side of corn and black bean salsa, a smoothie, and a slice of carrot cake.(I hadn’t intended on getting dessert, but am glad my dining partner talked me into it.) It is unimaginable to me how these folks can produce such a tasty vegan burger… moist, firm and flavorful! I highly recommend the Pesto Burger, but any of them on the menu sounded great. The carrot cake, which I am glad I got, had some of the best frosting I’ve ever tasted. It had a lemony flavor, and a creamy consistency which belies its vegan heritage. My bill was a little higher than that with which I expected to come away from lunch, but normally in a restaurant I also don’t order dessert. So all in all, I found, for the quality, the prices to be reasonable. We arrived at the end of what must have been a rather busy lunch hour. Our delightful waitress was very friendly, but a little disoriented. I think she was just having a rough day, but, to her credit, she still was serving with a smile. My only question about the Flaming Ice Cube is… why can’t there be more restaurants like this?

I previously visited the location in Cleveland in November and loved it. Good coffee, great burger, and friendly service. I’m currently traveling cross-country and visited the Boardman location last night. The menu was large and after much deliberation, my friends and I made our selections. We ordered the pizza burger, chicken quesadilla, grilled cheese, chicken salad wrap, chickpea and pita appetizer, black bean and corn salsa side, Mediterranean pasta salad side, and a coffee. First off, in my opinion, to have your only options for sides be black bean and corn salsa or Mediterranean pasta salad hardly constitutes as a side. Salsa on the side of a burger? I was willing to try. I did enjoy the salsa. It was very fresh tasting and was probably my favorite. The chicken salad wrap was quite delicious. It tasted typical to how I recall non vegan chicken salad tasting. The pasta salad was ok, just lacked seasoning, as did the chickpea mixture to go with the pita. The pita would have been nice of it had been roasted. The chicken quesadilla was packed with flavor and loaded with veggies and an appetizing cheese blend. The grilled cheese was by no means a grilled cheese. It was melted cheese inside of a tortilla that was cut in triangles. So basically, we had a plain quesadilla. The pizza burger was pretty decent. Very heavy, as it’s made with a soy patty, but I thought it had a good amount of sauce and cheese. The touch of pepperoni made it better. When I received the coffee(that was ordered with cream and sugar), it was cold and seemed to have been unsweetened. But it was late at night and I was willing to settle for it without making a fuss. The staff was nice enough and the menu seemed to be priced fairly. Overall, you can find decent vegan food here for an affordable price. In my opinion, it could benefit from making more freshly-prepared items.

I’m originally from this area, and as others have mentioned, this place does not in any way shape of form cater to or even often consider vegetarians and vegans. The Flaming Ice Cube, however, is a gem for people with alternative diets, especially for it being in this particular area, and it’s even great for meat-eaters who want to lighten up their diets or just plain try something different. Don’t skip out on the homemade juices and desserts! I also love the store which has some pretty cool stuff like my personal favorite — Republic of Tea tins.

WOW! This place totally rocks! After reading previous reviews here on Unilocal,I decided to give it a try and I am so glad I did! If you happen to be in the area, take it from me, Hwy 244 is just one big strip of every conceivable food chain you can imagine… they are all there lining both sides of the road. I was so happy to find a non franchised, locally owned eatery which caters to the non meat eater. I did not want to eat at Friday’s, Mickey D’s or any of the others… I wanted something different, and that my friend is exactly what this tiny little bistro is… an oasis of some of the BEST vegan food I have ever tasted!(…and I have eaten my way from the right coast to the left coast and many places in between, so trust me on this!) Located in a strip mall on the south side of Hwy 244 at the intersection of Tippacanoe, there is ample parking. The café is to the left as you walk through the door of the gift shop. After I placed my order, I browsed the store… lots of good stuff there. The café also has a small, but nice grocery selection of vegan foods to take home if you feel like whipping up something yourself. Be sure to check out their cute little selection of vegan cook books. While waiting, I also chatted with a local who told me she drove from the other side of town to have lunch there. I would soon know why this place is worth driving out of your way for. I ordered the«Thanksgiving Everyday» on Focaccia. One word: YUM! I loved it so much I went back the next day with a friend and had it again. He ordered the Mushrooom Burger. OMG! It was HUGE… so big in fact, he had to take half of it home. I had a bite and it was amazing! We both had a side of garlic pasta and enjoyed our food very much. He also had vegan chili which was served piping hot and chocked full of veggies. The aroma of the chili made my mouth water. The menu is a delightful romp through a vegan garden of delicious and delectable offerings. Everything is home made fresh and tasty. There is much to choose from and you’ll find yourself trying to decide what to order. As we were sitting there enjoying our meal, one of the gals came out of the kitchen and returned a cook book to the shelf by our table. I asked her if she had been whipping up anything tasty out of the book and she told us she had just made a batch of cherry almond cookies, fresh out of the oven… and used a recipe from the book. On our way out, I bought a package of the fresh baked cookies(3 to a package) and when we got into the car, they were still warm! We proceeded to treat ourselves to these enticing morsels of pure joy. They were pleasingly moist and practically melted in our mouths. I couldn’t think of a better way to finish off our completely satisfying meal… unless of course we had ordered one of the tempting offerings from the desert case. The price tag for my sandwich was under $ 8.00…the portion was generous. The service was stellar. Word to the wise: Flaming Ice Cube is NOT to be ignored or missed. Eat there… and do so often!

I am not a vegan or even vegetarian but sometimes find the new uses of protein and vegetables healthy and worth seeking. I really like the food but the service is always lacking. I walked up to the counter and the girl was cold, she actually just kind of stared me down like I didn’t belong there. I’ve been a few times and this time got the chickenless salad sandwich, made with tofu I am assuming. I think it was supposed to be on some sort of ciabatta bread but was trying to request the whole wheat and you would have thought I asked for the rude waitress’ first born. Almost like I was the only person in the world to order something a bit different than the way they decided to list it on their menu… and I don’t believe that. A family member told me to ask for some PB rice crispy bars(I don’t know what they really call them) and she just looked past me and pointed. It came off really rude. I go for the food, not for the service but unfortunately the service knocked off at least one star from my review considering it’s part of the experience. The atmosphere is that of some ceramic tiled fast food restaurant, not too cozy but they do offer a wait service if you choose to sit down and eat in the restaurant.

Grew up in the area, and even though I now live in the vegan haven that is the Bay Area, the Flaming Ice Cube is still one of my all-time favorite restaurants. I miss this place so much and pretty much eat all my meals here when I’m back home. Best vegan burgers ever, amazing paninis, salads, sandwiches, everything. Lots of fresh juices and smoothies too. And don’t skip dessert — there are always cakes, pies, cookies, etc in the case up front. After you’ve filled your stomach with delicious vegan food, check out their little café store and gift shop for lots of great things. Love the Cube!

While visiting family over the 4th of July weekend, I found myself in the *almost* vegan wasteland that is Youngstown, OH. Thanks to Unilocal(and verification via happy cow), I was able to pinpoint one of two potential vegan spots in the ENTIRE50MILERADIUS surrounding Youngstown. Holy crap, there’s no way I’d be able to make it – hats off to you Northeast Ohio — I like to dine out too much, it would be a WRAP. The upside for Flaming Ice Cube is they are the only show in town(Ely’s To-Go was closed) so they got my dining business three days in a row. This allowed me to get a good sense of their menu and concept… alternatively, it made plain where their shortcomings lay. I initially was accompanied by extremely skeptical family members who tagged along to gasp and gawk at the vegans and see what Niambi ‘eats nowadays. Surprisingly, they actually tried the sample Peanut Butter Crunch Bar and loved it. Here’s a rundown of what I had/shared during my three-day FIC experience: ======= Pulled BBQ sandwich(mock chicken marinated in BBQ sauce, lettuce, on a Kaiser roll, side of Mediterranean pasta and dill pickle segment) — GREAT tasting sandwich that I ordered twice; very flavorful but it left you wanting more… perhaps they should add coleslaw. The pasta was kinda bland – definitely light(non-existent?) on the seasoning. ======= Chickenless Salad & ‘Bacun’ Wrap(chickenless salad, ‘bacuns’, romaine lettuce, tomato, cucumber, green onions, garlic herb wrap) –This sandwich was completely ruined by the inclusion of UNWASHED lettuce. Gross. Unfortunately, most people know the eye-wincing chemically taste of lettuce that has not been properly washed – this assaulted my tastebuds as soon as i got my first chomp on. One dissection and lettuce removal later, I finished the ruins off with the chemically taste still lingering(even after chugging a glass of water). I took this meal to-go so I had to just deal. Uugh. ======= Sunshine Salad(Mixed greens, dried cranberries, mandarin orange segments, green onions, fresh fruit, toasted almonds, with pomegranate blueberry vinaigrette and lemon tahini dressing.) –This was pretty, WASHED, and delicious! Shared this with a family member and they really enjoyed it. ======= Red Velvet Cupcake – this was GREAT! glad I only got one or this woulda been a problem. Very moist/dense cake with good cocoa flavor. ======= Sweet Potato/potato salad – surprisingly bland; i was expecting more even though its just a side dish. They definitely get points for just existing but they HAVE to step up the seasoning and prepping(that lettuce situation was unacceptable) ASAP. I am very, very glad to know there is a veg friendly place so I don’t have to load the car with my WF purchases before hitting the road to see the fam.

I saw a bunch of 5 star reviews here and was more than willing to go with my gf. I should have known better. 5 stars from people who only eat tasteless vegan foods is more like 3 stars for people with real tastebuds. Food was not bad just bland. If your a vegan this is probably pretty good. If your not, don’t bother. Service was fine but our waitress had CRAZY long fingernails. Better vegan food exists, just probably not anywhere near Youngstown.

In a town that favors sausage, steak, and pasta, this little place is a gem and safe haven for healthy food seekers. And it’s not the kind of health that you feel compromised with variety or quality — on the contrary, there is a large menu with an array of burgers, salads, wraps, coffee drinks, smoothies, and juices(I would recommend the juices, they are fresh and delicious). Yes, I am the kind of person who generally likes vegan and«alternative» options. But my mom also liked this place, and this is proof that you should go too. Desserts should not be passed up either. Mmmmm.

My boyfriend’s family lives in Youngstown, what I like to refer to as the meatiest city on earth. Thankfully, on one of our visits to see his family, I discovered The Flaming Ice Cube. Nestled in a busy shopping plaza, this vegan café/gift shop is an oasis for the weary vegetarian traveler. I stopped by yesterday for some takeout and was happy to see that the café was jam packed. The solitary frazzled waitress took my order and was very friendly. She told me all about the vegan Reuben special and helped me select barley soup. I saw someone eating the chick’n fingers, so I decided to give those a try, too. The menu has a variety of delicious sounding options — ranging from appetizers to desserts. I have to say that my meal was pretty fantastic. I love meatless Reubens and this one was particularly good, in my opinion, because it had wheat bread rather than rye. The soup was also really good and was packed with fresh tasting veggies. The chick’n fingers were some of the best I’ve ever had, thanks to the 3 dipping sauces that were provided. I’ve been to The Flaming Ice Cube many times and will continue to go back because of the high quality, delicious food. If you ever have a reason to be in Boardman, Ohio, I suggest you try it out.
