The Art Institute of York-Pennsylvania

As a high school senior, I applied to the Art Institute of York-​Pennsylvania to the major of Animation. However, before I sent in my portfolio, I could already tell that I made the worst college decision by just applying here. The first flag that I saw was the persistent calls that they made to my house. I would say that on average, they called about ten to twenty times a day which made me feel that they were trying to force their school name down my throat. The second flag was when I read other reviews online about this school and its branch campuses only to find out that they’re a for-​profit college and that they’re admissions was geared towards a confusing financial aid process that you couldn’t understand. They would rush your admissions process so they could make you select options that would take out so many loans that it would leave you in general debt after graduation. After reading many reviews and seeing many review videos, I made the decision to withdraw my application from the school, which was a hastle itself to even do that. I was so delighted to hear that they’re closing, as nobody should have to go through what the graduates went through. To anybody thinking about applying to its branch campuses, do yourself the favor and don’t. Apply to and attend a credible school to get your art degree.

They’re a bunch of liars and not encouraging for anything. I’m calling them liars because they talk you into going to this great school when really it’s done nothing. And I’m speaking for pretty much everyone I graduated with back in 2008.
They act like they help you find a job out of school, but that didn’t happen with anybody I knew, and I knew many people in different fields, too. You can’t live around here and do jobs like Interior Design. It’s just not possible. You need to be in a more Metropolitan area. So go to a different school in a more busier location if you really want to be some type of Designer. It’s not worth it in lame York. Plus, York is becoming a bad city to live in. I’m glad I got that over and done with long ago.
It’s nice that you can walk to class from the perfect condos they have. But beware, you can hear right through the walls, I honestly don’t think it was made very good. Also, one of the condos burned in a fire, that means every condo attached went with it. From electrical situation I believe? Luckily no one was in there that night. That happened right before I moved in. And what do you know — about a month later the next one was built. You can’t tell me that’s made the best.
The Interior Design crew got rid of a good man named Charles. Better teacher than all of them could ever be — I hope they read this too.
The boards Interior Designers create for display of what they want a space to look like — they don’t show you how to make it. I understand the first time you do so, it’s not going to be made perfect. But they make you learn on your own. Either you’re extremely good or you just suck. Displaying is extremely important in the field, I think. Wouldn’t you assume we’d get some kind of help on that? Well, you don’t.
The POS computers they give you — you’re constantly going to be running to IT to have these problems fixed. It’s ridiculous. Luckily I have an IT brother who told me it was basically the crappiest computer ever and ended up getting me one that was able to comply with their systems. And I’m speaking for Fashion/​ID because the other degrees use Apple.
Oh, and another thing they had informed us about (two weeks before our graduation) was that you cannot be an «official» Interior Designer until you spend at least 6 years in the field and take a bunch of tests. Oh, I bet you couldn’t tell us that when we first applied right? Good luck, kids.
Basically the only good thing I got out of this school was meeting great people.
Other than that, we’re all stuck in the same boat now, REGRETFUL debt. Thanks for nothing, AiY
