Stopped by here on our way through town. Incredible food with quick(food ready in less than 10 mins) and friendly service. The owner asked if we’d ever had Puerto Rican food(not a lot), quickly explained the menu, and gave us a few free samples to try it out. I got a stuffed plantain on top of yellow rice plus the chicken empanadilla and they were amazing(not to mention cheap). My friend got the Cuban sandwich and loved it. Highly recommend whether you live in York or are just passing through.

This is actually a 6 star half a dollar sign place, but Unilocal wasn’t letting me give that rating. For $ 15 I received enough food for three people, possibly four, and the food was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Pernil Mofongo and Canoa, because I could not make up my mind between the two, both looked small, I was quite hungry, and it was $ 15 for both of them, which was very reasonable for dinner. Needless to say I threw in the towel by the time I was halfway through the Mofongo, and I hadn’t even touched the Canoa. I decided that I needed to at least taste the Canoa, so after a five minute rest, I had a couple of bites. Based on the service, food, prices, large free parking lot, and everything else about this little gem, if I were any closer, I would eat here every day. I’m at a loss for words trying to described their menu, or the flavors of what I had consumed, other than stating that you should just stop reading this review, go there, and order something. Better yet, bring your friends, and order many things, and share, this way you can try more of their menu in one go.

Very friendly. They even gave us samples and went over all of the menu items before we ordered. Mofongo with pernil was awesome. I could eat here everyday.

Excellent, helpful service. Conoa(beef, red beans, cheese and rice) is excellent. I love anything with the roast pork. If you are in the area, you need to try this place.

I am from Mechanicsburg and I am crying inside this place is not within 5 miles of my house. I was lost when looking at the menu. To be helpful the wonderful staff brought us out a sampler of their best dishes. I nail down exactly what I wanted and you cannot imagine the flavor packed into this food. You can taste that they love this food and are very proud of it… And proud is exactly what they should be. Upon going to settle up my check, one of the owners hands us 2 different types of flan and two types of pudding(coconut and rice)… Free! Awesome service and even better food. Go there. Run… Now. Lol Please! Please! Open one of these places in Mechanicsburg!

Not too many PR restaurants in Cali, so if not on the island, I seek them out. Went to order at the counter and was confronted by the friendliest people evah, samples of the rices were appreciated. The mofongo was great and hearty, could see enjoying it on a cold PA day. Wife had a sweet plantain, meat and cheese dish which we both enjoyed. Tres Leche cake was sweet and sexy, the puddings(to go) were great. Will make the drive up from Baltimore any day — expect me next time back there.

Fantastic food, fantastic experience. Never having tried Puerto Rican food before, the owner went out of his way to educate us and allow us samples. The white rice and beans were out of this world. This is certainly a place we will go back to again and again.

We were in town for a show and were searching for a great place to eat. We saw how highly rated this place was and decided to try it. My boyfriend and I had never eaten Puerto Rican food before so we thought we would give it a try. The owner greeted us and asked us if we’ve eaten there before… We said no and also said we have never even tried Puerto Rican food before. He was very nice and gave us some samples to try… Lol which didn’t help because they were all so freaking fantastic!!! We decided on trying all four of the lunch specials… Yes the food was that delicious!!! We then also ordered food to go since we live far away and wouldn’t be there again for awhile. So eat at this restaurant!!! Fantastic food and great service

If you haven’t tried Mi Caldero restaurant then run don’t walk there. York’s best kept secret by far. How can I have never known that such a gem was here in York. The owners are friendly, engaging and really care about what they serve. The Puerto Rican dishes were amazing. We didn’t know what to order so the owners immediately brought out a sample of about 6 different items. OMG everything was delicious. The kids even loved it. The location is small though. Maybe they could move to one of the empty spaces being renovated on Market. hint hint. A must go place to eat; and don’t forget dessert.

Excellent puerto rican food! I’m a huge fan of the cuban sandwich — its obviously made with freshly slow-roasted pork. The empanadillas are also delicious.

What a great experience. The owner gave us samples when we told him we never had Puerto Rican food before, it was nice gesture but really didn’t helped us narrow down our choice since everything was so delicious. I’d make the trip from Lancaster just for Empanadilas, which were dangerously tasty and so eye rollingly satisfying. My waist line is lucky this is a 35 minute drive away. This isn’t fancy food, it’s not sophisticated but it’s rich, full of flavor and just made me happy. A must try.

This place was amazing! If you come to York, check this place out. Thank you to Unilocalers before us who helped us find. We really enjoyed the roasted pork, but we also got to sample the bistec(beef) and chicken and all were delicious. Husband got the pork entrée and I had it in a mofongo. It was a lot of food for a very reasonable price. The staff were all super friendly and helpful with samples and recommendations. Very casual, it’s counter service; not a super big place. Maybe 10 tables? There was easy parking in the lot across the street. Almost forgot to mention –The coconut milk dessert was delicious as well.

Unbelievable food. Unbelievable service. Me and 3 coworkers walked up to the counter and were greeted by the guy behind the counter(forgot his name, but he had a red hat), who was incredibly friendly and helpful. He asked if we’d been there before(we hadn’t) and told us to sit down and he’d bring menus and samples to get our palate’s ready. He brought over 5 samples of the different meats and rice/beans. Everything was delicious and we were ready and excited to eat. We all ordered something different, but everyone was floored by how good the food was. The pulled pork was very tender and flavorful, the chicken stew was excellent and the steak was unbelievably tender. I wound up ordering the Mofongo with the Pollo Rojo(see my uploaded photo) and it was delicious. I’ve only had mofongo once before at a Dominican restaurant in the Bronx, but this one was better. The plantains were garlicky and you could taste the olive oil mixed in — it wasn’t some generic/crappy oil. The chicken in the center was delicious — flavorful and a little spicy. With a few drops of hot pepper vinegar it was PERFECT. The empanadas are great, the tostones are seasoned well, cheap and plentiful and the main dishes are enough for 2 meals, so be prepared to eat a tasty lunch the next day. I can’t wait to go on a business trip to York PA again(never thought I’d say that), just to eat at this place. Well done Mi Caldero, keep up the excellent work!

I get excited when I can partially fumble through pronunciations of dishes in a restaurant located in York. It’s not quite the cultural epicenter of the world, as you’re probably familiar. I get even more excited when I am rewarded for my butchered Spanish, with incredibly good food. Malfongo — Ever mess around with green plantains? Me neither. We’re both sheltered fools. Now you’re truly alive. Mashed up with garlic and topped with beef that has to be marinated for a week, because it melts like butter on your tongue. Sancocho — Hungover? Of course you are. This is a soup with absolutely everything in it. I’m not exaggerating. You need this right now. Flan — I’ve never blushed over custard before, but this is no ordinary dessert. The exclamation point to end the meal of your Puerto Rican dreams.

My wife and I came here for dinner last Friday night and though I was reluctant, I am so glad that I did. The restaurant is kind of hard to find and it is very small in size but it way more than makes up for it in taste and service! My wife did the ordering for us and for some reason thought that ordering three entrees and two appetizers was a good idea for two people. Suffice it to say, we had left overs but I will get to that later. We got some form of empenadas for our appetizer and they were absolutely amazing, especially the beef ones. Our main courses were even better. My wife got a pork and rice dish(remember she ordered, not me) and a plantain banana that had beef and cheese in it. I tried both and they were amazing. These were new tastes I have never experienced before and they were wonderful. My entrée was steak cut up over a bowl of rice with vegetables and again it was awesome. The service was even better than the food. The staff at the restaurant brought out several samples for us to try as well as the food we ordered(hence why there were left overs). They took the time to explain the foods, where the recipes were from, inspirations etc. Absolutely impressive. Not only did we have a fantastic meal but we got to try other items to see what we want the next time we come in. I am quite sure we will be back and soon.

Found on Unilocal and has to try it. Well all I can say is WOW. Carne Frita and Monofno, Bacalatios and Alcapurrias was all outstanding. Authentic as it gets. Owner was extremely warm and inviting. They even offered several(like 6) tapas of items we did not order but expressed interested in. This is a definite gem and should be coveted.
