About two blocks off the Strinestown exit of Interstate 83, I stumbled across this gem. I now stumble across it once or twice a week, because I can’t get enough. It’s the simplest of food trucks, and it sits across the Susquehanna Trail from the 83 Diner, at the entrance to a trailer park. Two guys and a grill. If you haven’t passed by it, you don’t know about it because there’s no Web presence and they don’t advertise. But oh, it’s so good. Authentic Mexican, and it’s a small menu, as you can see in the attached photo. They make the food to order; you can call ahead, take it to go, or there’s one or two picnic tables near the truck. Everything they make is outstanding. My favorite is a pombazo. That’s a Mexican white bread soaked in red sauce and then grilled. They complete the sandwich with your choice of meat(my iron stomach craves the chorizo), lettuce, sour cream, avocado if you want it, etc. It’s big enough for a healthy meal. And it’s a sit-down sandwich because of the sauce-soaked bread. Soooo good. They have all the Mexican standards — tacos done right, quesadillas, burritos, tostadas. They offer Enchiladas Mole, with that fabulous cocoa-laced sauce. That’s another big one. To be honest, I hesitated before writing this review in the first place, because if you go, you’ll keep coming back, and the lunch/dinner lines are going to get really long. But I want these guys to stay in business, because it’s right up there with the best Mexican food I’ve encountered. Is it worth a special trip from York or Harrisburg? You bet your pombazo it is. EDIT: Dammit. It appears Alvaritos has gone away. I don’t know if it’s just for the winter or for good, but the truck is nowhere to be found. EDIT: Back in business for the spring/summer months … Go visit!
