I have been going to this place for 40+ years. Understand what it is-a simple place on the beach, with great views, to get basic seafood. They have always hired local kids as servers. It is more expensive than the options down by the outlets. You will sometimes have to wait for a table. I have seen the menu evolve over the years. But I go to a place like this to order fried clams and things like that, not a meal I would order in the City. The restaurant may be reaching a bit with some of the menu items, that’s their problem, don’t let it be yours. If you want a burger, steak, pasta, etc., you are probably in the wrong place. If you want cheaper prices, drive down Route 1. For 5 star service go to Daniel, Bouley, or Jean-Georges. Appreciate it for what it is, while it’s still here. The last thing York Beach needs is a bunch of bogus, trendy«eateries» a la Asbury Park or Long Branch. The Beach is what it is.

This has to be the biggest rip off in new England. . The lobster roll has a salad dressing cup portion and costs over $ 20…and it’s not that good. Get ready to always wait for more than a half hour for your food, waitresses are poorly trained, rushed and unfriendly. I have been here a bunch so this isn’t from a first time experience, its been like this every single time. Im not returning

We stayed at the hotel across the street so went here for lunch! It was great! Service was fast, food was fresh and delish! Got bacon wrapped scallops– some of the best I’ve ever had! We should have gone back for dinner instead we had a bad dinner experience else where. We ended up back at sun and surf for some amazing cheese cake and a night cap!

Best location on Long Sands Beach for sure. If you eat outside, you are right there on the ocean. To start, we had scallops wrapped in bacon, which had a maple glaze sauce-delicious! There were 6 on the plate– around $ 13.00. My dad and I had lobster rolls which were simply delicious, but maybe a little too much celery. My step mon had a fried haddock sandwich, which was equally as good! The fish was light and fluffy. Very reasonable regarding the price for a seafood restaurant. Our table tab was around $ 85.00 for 3 people before tip. We had: 2 beers, 1 soda, 2 lob rolls, 1 haddock sandwich, and a scallop app. I was pleasantly surprised this was under $ 100.00. Our server, Jake, was super friendly and polite! We couldn’t have asked for better service! My only issue was that the tables have uneven surfaces so we had to watch our drinks carefully so that they wouldn’t spill. You also can’t fix the issue yourself, because the tables are chained to the wall. That’s a little odd.

We are on the coast where fresh seafood is all around us, why would these places use tiny baby shrimp(with the waste vein still intact) for fried shrimp. The food was just average, like I said in other reviews, these places don’t have to try harder because people still go for the view. I don’t go to a restaurant for the view.

Don’t waste your time on dinner, but I can’t speak of the breakfast. The stir fry looked like it was dropped out of a frozen bag and the burger and fries made McDonalds look good. Oh and we couldn’t even too if there was alcohol in the drinks. The only reason I gave the Resturant 2 stars was because it was clean, the décor was beautiful and the view was amazing, and the waitress was good. But the food

We had dinner at Sun & Surf on Saturday night. Two adults and 2 kids. We sat outside and enjoyed the view. The food was very good. The spinach artichoke dip with little garlic toast rounds was the best we’ve ever had. The large beet salad was far more food than I could eat. The fried clam roll was delicious. The kids loved the fresh hot bread, but ordered typical«kid food»(chicken tenders).

Don’t let yourself be fooled by the gorgeous view! You go to a restaurant for the food they serve, not for the view, location or other aspects, all these come in addition, what matters is the food itself! And this restaurant has all the other aspects, except for the food! We went there two Sundays ago for dinner. The restaurant was pretty busy and there was no table outside, so we just decided to wait at the bar until a table became available. The hostess said that it would take around 15 min, which was fine. 25 min later we were still at the bar because she forgot about us, really? And she actually seated before us some other people who showed up 10 min after us. Crazy, I know! I was already pissed. Her answer was«they had a reservation» which was a lie as 30 sec later a lady came along — the main hostess or I don’t know who she was and she said that they screwed up and they were very sorry and so on, you guys know the drill. We went with fried calamari as an appetizer, which were not properly cooked, they were almost raw and difficult to chew. Not a big deal, the appetizer is just an appetizer! For the main course, I chose tortellini with chopped lobster and alfredo sauce, very bad call! But not as bad as the boyfriend’s choice — baked stuffed Maine lobster — the most disgusting meal he has ever had and he’s not picky at all when it comes to food, he will eat pretty much everything! The inside of the lobster was taken out and replace with a staffing made of… I have no idea what it was, but if the boyfriend couldn’t eat it, that says everything. After we finished struggling with the food, the check came right away, we were not asked if we’d like dessert, coffee or maybe another drink and it was only 8 pm. Of course it was expensive — 100+ for 2 people only. Regardless, it’s all in the past now, however the memory of that stuffed lobster is still quite vivid…

This is a tough one. The view is beautiful. Food is pricey but it is a touristy area and the only plAce on the beach in this general vicinity. The beer battered haddock was very good. Also ordered shrimp with it but I was a bit surprised when these little out of box like popcorn shrimp showed up. Service was fine and the place is really clean. Overall food was good but I was just expecting more of higher quality seafood at the cost in terms of the shrimp. $ 5 domestic beers. $ 8 wine for your basics.

We spent three nights at The Anchorage Inn which is owned by the same people. We decided to have breakfast at the Sun and Surf before returning home. Although a wee bit expensive(our bill for 4 people was about $ 68, not including tip), our meals were filling and very, very good. We ordered three Hearty Breakfasts and an order of pancakes. The eggs(over easy and scrambled) were delicious. Their home fries were awesome. Their pancakes were equally good. Our son substituted French toast for his pancakes and he loved them. Our daughter loved her pancakes. Both kids raved about the chocolate milk and our coffee was hot and perfect. The waitress was pleasant and attentive. We highly recommend the Sun and Surf. If the review of the food doesn’t sell you, the view of the ocean if you get a chance to eat outside, like we did, should!

My family and I went there on our visit to York Beach over the Labor Day weekend. At this point I cannot recall everything that was ordered, but we were each pleased with our food, the waitress was friendly and attentive, the view was wonderful, and everything was clean. Even the seagulls were polite and didn’t squawk at us while we were eating on the patio! We went at a quiet time of day but the patio was fairly busy and everybody seemed to be getting their food in a timely fashion. Would return!

The poor reviews certainly are not on the flavor of the food. The Haddock was absolutely delicious. I worked at seafood restaurants for many yeats, I am certain the fish was fresh. It was one of the best beer battered plates I’ve ever had. The beer(Shipyard) tasted clean, and my wife’s beverage was poured well. The service was okay. I’m fine with paying top dollar for a venue like this. The views are breathtaking & the food is delicious. But you’re almost there! We sat inside. No joke, I killed 5 flies, and there were still multiple flies in the dining room. They were buzzing around the food, the drinks, my kids… Listen, if you’re getting $ 20 for two medallions of fish & french fries, you can invest in some fu**ing fly traps. Either that, or you have something festering somewhere, and you need to do a better job cleaning.

Food is okay service was awful! The waitress gave me such attitude when I asked a simple question to put my muffin on the grill she refused and ran away.

Good lunch food. Moderately priced so not a cheap lunch but good food. We loved the swordfish sandwich with basil pesto. The place is right on the beach at Long Sands so easy to go for a walk afterwards.

My first time in York was this week, we went to my girlfriends family’s favorite place sun and surf. It was touristy and I just stuck with a burger while others got baked haddock, linguini and tortellini. I think the pasta dishes were 12 and 22 dollars then a ½ tasteless burger was $ 12. I think they had great breakfast and wasn’t too expensive(same prices as home pretty much, but 7.25 for 2 eggs h-fries bacon and toast was a tad high. But I would go back

I wouldn’t even give this restaurant one star. It is awful. There were 5 of us out that night. We stopped in for dinner on 8÷8÷2014 as the view was spectacular and it seemed busy. 3 Of us ordered lobster pie; I asked the waitress if it was swimming in butter and she said it didn’t seem to be when she saw it, it was«well done». That should have been our first clue. We ordered a pasta kiddie dish for the 2 year old and that came out real fast and he loved it. That was about it on loving the meal. The lobster pie was, in fact, very well done and the stuffing on top was dark brown and so salty you couldn’t even taste anything else. There was good chunks of lobster meat at the bottom, but it was chewy and tasteless. The lobster roll someone ordered was beyond small for the price and swimming in mayo. Another order the 2 way combo; clams were good, haddock was awful, overcooked and hard. During the course of the dinner, we heard people talking about the breakfast and that it was good — so we decided to be optimistic — it was close by. We went back on Sunday for breakfast; there were 8 of us this time and we got lucky and were sat right away outside on the patio. Our party was split up a bit as we had to search for parking, but we were all seated within 10 minutes of the first half getting there. The waitress was late getting to our table and by the time she got back to ask the stragglers getting back from parking what they wanted to drink, we had been waiting for about 20 minutes. We took advantage of her being there and ordered breakfast. We waited and waited, and waited. After approximately an hour, I went to talk with the manager who didn’t have much to offer, but«okay». During this wait, we never saw the waitress and at one point, had to pull her over from another table to have her bring something out for the 2 year old who was starting to get VERY antsy. The manager came back to the table and told us the waitress blamed it on the delay in the rest of our party who had been parking — which after an hour, is pretty hard for them to use that as an excuse. About 5 minutes after the manager came over the food came out. Benedict of some variation was popular and the hollandaise sauce was a small speck on each piece of the benedict. The manager never came back to make sure everything was okay and the coffee and juice was taken off our bill. It appears as the only reason this restaurant is so busy is because of the high volume of tourists that go through that area along with the spectacular view. The prices are very high for what you get and the service is absolutely terrible. Take the extra time you would wait at this restaurant and find another one in the area. You will thank us.

I’ve been to Sun and Surf many times over the years. Yes, it’s pricey but that’s to be expected in touristy York Beach. The restaurant sits next to Long Sands and has a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean. I was at the beach on Monday, 08÷04÷14, and decided to get take out to eat on the beach. Sun and Surf also has tables outside to eat your take out as well. I ordered a fried haddock sandwich($ 10.99) with fries and a lobster roll($ 18.99) with fries for my wife. The sandwiches come with chips and fries are a $ 1.00 extra. The order took about 15 minutes. When I picked up the order it was boxed up nicely and placed in a bag. This was nice because it would have been a hassle to bring a tray of food down to the beach by myself. Don’t forget to ask for extra condiments and get napkins! Unfortunately, I didn’t see any napkins and you know how messy ketchup and tarter sauce can get. My haddock sandwich was crispy and hot and It was on a nice soft bun. The fries were nothing special. Just your run if the mill average french fry. My wife said her lobster roll was good with a generous amount of lobster on a toasted roll. As far as taste goes, it was good, not great. There are many places to get great seafood in the area so the competition is fierce. Sun and Surf is good for a meal during your beach day but I would go elsewhere if you want great seafood.

The view is the best part of this restaurant. I was so excited to try it as it’s one of the few places I haven’t been to in York. Sadly, I was very disappointed. Our chowder was obviously from a can, the crab cakes were not seasoned, seemed nuked and had more egg and bread in them than crab, not to mention the remoulade had so much raw garlic in it that it overwhelmed the rest of my meal(and I LOVE garlic). The fried haddock sandwich was also bland and the roll was soggy. Even the fries were bland. Our waitress was nice but we couldn’t wait to leave. Even the view isn’t worth the price of food this quality — wish I had gone ahead to Fox’s…

We were driving down the road when we passed Sun and Surf and had to turn around. We were only interested in a cocktail and an appetizer both of which were fine. The view from the outdoor patio really is amazing and you can see Nubble Lighthouse in the distance. We were pleased that we made the stop.

We were driving around trying to figure out where to eat when we passed this place. It looked fairly busy and overlook the ocean so we figured«hey why the hell not?» We sat outside and from where we were, the view of the ocean was spectacular! My lobster roll came out and I almost asked the server, «where is the rest of it?» The lobster roll was tiiiiiiiiiny! I could finish the stupid thing in 4 or 5 bites! I took a bite and seriously, I wanted to cry(but sitting in front of the in-laws I held back). Lobster got no flavors. Pretty much I was just eating mayonnaise and bread with chunks of chewy stuff. $ 19 for this shit??? After we left, my father-in-law revealed that he was a little upset because he left a very generous tip but the server never came back after the check to thank us. So what did we do after this nasty overpriced joint? Drove right over to Bob’s Clam Hut! Now if you want the taste of the sweet ocean in your mouth… Bob’s is the place!
