I had a truly wonderful experience with Isa
Came in earlier in the day to the gracious warm Isa, waited for about 30 min while she finished with a customer. I came in to get Senegalese twist for a small change and to assist in growing my hair out natural. Little did I know I would spend the day enjoying the insightful funny and sweet character that Isa has to offer. A documentary film was being recorded while I was there outside of her shop, with the producer from the Wire, so it was nice to see the crew having such an admiration for Isa and using her shop amongst many to be featured in the film. Besides that spending a long wonderful day of good vibes and convo my hair came out beautiful! I love it and received many compliments, super plus!
Price is $ 175 plus my hair which was $ 10 a pack. Not on the cheaper end but I will support a respectful business owner who is simply trying to make a living while spreading her love to the community and her customers!

I’m writing an updated review, because now that I’ve experienced other hair braiders, I know that Kotos African Hair Braiding is on the pricey end. You’ll pay as much as $ 175 for Senegalese twists here and $ 115 in Harlem. However, it’s worth the money, because they take their time to ensure the job is done correctly and to perfection.
For styles that may take awhile, get there early (they open at 10am daily).
While I do recommend Kotos, if cost plays a factor in where you go to get your hair done, look elsewhere.

I usually go to Harlem to get braids/​twists, but wanted to find something closer to home so I decided to give Koto’s a try.
I came here for Senegalese twists and was very happy and impressed with the results. Everyone in the shop is professional and friendly. I will definitely return again!

I came here for Marley twist and happy with the results. I stopped in to make an appt but they were able to take me right then. They have some hair options available and there are 3 beauty supply stores within walking distance. I have bleach blonde hair so I took a walk to the Beauty supply. It took about 4 hours for them to finish my head. The owner and her daughter were very nice. Happy with my Marley twist!

when i walked in i was graciously received by owner, Isa. i explained to her what i wanted: long senegalese twists, medium size.
after waiting a short amount of time for another braider to arrive, we began the process. 12 patient hours later it was done. neat. crispy. and clean.
my daughters hair was also braided in a very cute style. and she loves it!
we will surely be going back to koto in the future.
