First off, calling the bartender«Aunt Jemima» is sheer ignorance. If you act like a jerk — you’re going to get ignored at this place. Sounds like someone got the service they deserved! The Gulch is where the locals hang out — not Peaches for the most part with their infected draft lines. I’m caucasian, I don’t act like an entitled tourist, pompous jerk and I get great service. I don’t live in Yellow Springs but I get to the Gulch every other month or so. Great music, some nice beers — Sophie, Sierra Nevada, a few other import/crafts and it is a great value! Great music scene, great outdoor patio. Laid back, fun and safe.

If you’re caucasian, stay away !!! My girlfriend and I went there yesterday(6−15−15) for a drink or two. As we walked in, we walked past Aunt Jemima(The Bartender) to see the type of bottled beers they sold ! We waited patiently to place our beer order as Aunt Jemima walked past us several times !!! Next, we walked to the other end of the bar hoping she would notice our existence !!! Aunt Jemima then cashed someone out and walked behind the bar, out of sight ! After a couple minutes she reappeared, still neglecting to serve us !!! Just as I was getting ready to blow, two black guys walked in and up to the bar. Guess what happened next? You got it !!! Aunt Jemima immediately asked what they were drinking !!! That was the last straw. I slammed my hands on the bar and said, «I guess we’re not getting a drink here !!! I suppose we’re invisibile !!! «Everybody at the bar became mute and she STILL refused to look at us !!! UNBELIEVABLE !!! Do yourself a favor, DONOTGOTOTHISPLACE !!! We walked to Peach’s Bar and Grill and were waited on immediately !!! If I could give«The Gulch» negative stars, I would !!! STAYAWAY !!! You’ve been warned !!! Great dive bar with cheap drinks, attentive bartenders, good bottle selection of beers(no draft) and a fun crowd. Not much else to add!

Probably the better bar of two in «town», village or whatever you want to call Yellow Springs. Many villagers like to go there because of boredom and to get drunk, that’s why some regulars will meet you for the first time no matter how often you go there — they just can’t remember. Good thing is: small talk is easy… you can always talk the same. Most annoying customer is the owner himself, never make the mistake and talk to him. He will tell you stories you never wanted to hear, I forgot all of them instantly. If you go there and you don’t like it, just keep on drinking until you won’t remember-that’s what everybody does.

Drinks are decent. Your average dive bar– tons of locals. Lots of drunks. Nothing more, nothing less. Always the same faces, nothing ever changes. The owner of the bar sat at the bar and was rude and made fun of other customers and what they drink– really smart if you want business. If you stop in late, you might be fooled that the bar patrons are super welcoming and friendly, but in actuality, they’re just drunk. A couple of the bartenders aren’t too friendly, especially if they don’t know you. Very clique-ish place. I would avoid it if you are from out of town, as they aren’t too welcoming to out-of-towners. Opt for the Dayton area for more welcoming people.

I love this place! I grew up in the town right next to Yellow Springs and I never knew that this place existed, but I am glad I discovered it! I went on a Saturday night and the ambiance was great. There were people dancing towards the entrance of the bar and it seemed that everyone in the bar was talking to one another. The drinks were so cheap that I asked the bartender if he had forgotten to bill me for something. I believe that a Vodka Cranberry was $ 3 or $ 4 for a very strong serving. I am glad that I have found a bar that I can go to when I visit back home!

What a friendly lil dive bar. Met 4 people I’d have drinks with in my first 15 mins. Bartender rocks!

Lively music and an overall fun crowd, however, I would NOT recommend this place. Owner is rude, arrogant and creepy — especially if you are a woman. Do yourself a favor and patronize an establishment where you are treated like a human being.

Gulch is a fav past time… Has recently raised prices and lately bartenders are looking up how to make ‘easy’ drinks. Uh-oh

How could someone who lived in Yellow Springs from age 7 to 23 have never been to the Gulch? I don’t know either, but I was one of those people(and might I add I met a least one other person last night in the same crowd). The place is small, but crowded. It was a good feeling seeing many people I went to school with return to town for an all years reunion. My first drink at the Gulch? A lemondrop shot for me and a friend. Two drinks — $ 7.00. Really? That’s better than a happy hour price in most places. There is a pool table in the back. The bartender was very friendly, a DJ was playing good music. Not much of a dance area. Some people tried, but there is only room for about 4 or 5 up front. The bathroom was a little odd. Well not the bathroom itself, but moreso the sink. I just had never seen a sink that tall. Seriously it was like 4 feet off the ground. I don’t know what took so long for me to visit the Gulch, but I will return(probably tonight) and in my next travels back to Yellow Springs.

Good hang, cheap beer, eclectic local crowd… one of 3 bars in yellow springs. Back patio is nice… good place to chill with your Red Stripe. That’s about all to say… give it a shot.

A small town dive bar with a single 75 cent pool table and dirt cheap drinks. It gets loud but it never gets too ruckus. Busy on weekend nights. They opened up a patio out back after the no-smoking legislation. And that’s just about all there is to say about that.
