There are 2 ferries to the island. One leaves out of Portland, and this once, Chebeague Transportation leaves out of Cousins Island in Yarmouth. The Portland ferry takes about 1 ½ hours and drops you off on the other end of the island. This ferry takes only 15 minutes, and drops you off at the dock next to the Chebeague Island Inn. The only drawback is the parking lot to leave your car overnight is off site in Cumberland and you have to take a shuttle bus to the Cousins Island dock in Yarmouth. The shuttle is free though, and over night parking is only $ 15 a day which I think is much cheaper than most lots in Portland. it’s probably less likely to fill up as quickly as Portland ones as well. If your leaving your car overnight or coming to stay at the Inn, this is definitely the best choice. they have bike racks on the shuttle bus too, so be sure to brink bikes, you are going to need them to get around the island!

Between the portland option and this, this is easier. You can drive right up to the bus and unload, then park your car within 50 – 200 feet of it. Everyone is VERY friendly and helpful. The bus ride to the pier is through a pretty area, they tell you exactly what to do and how to do it, and it’s a short ferry ride to the island. I looked at taking the Portland option and it’s a lot busier and uncertain about parking. I also was taking more stuff than I wanted to walk several blocks with in Portland(my luggage and food). I would recommend this for easy no fuss transport to the island.

Its not fancy or Modern. But everyone who works there is frendly. Everyone taking the Bus and boat are wonderful. They help each other unload and load the bus. Same goes for the boat. its awesome.
