It was a very snowy night. Two friends and I found this place after three other places we were going to were closed. The proprietor was friendly and acknowledged us right away. I ordered a black bean burger and it was flame broiled and tasty. The cole slaw was unlike any other I’ve ever tasted(in a good way). Didn’t order any drinks.

Easily the best American food in Yakima, with an amicable owner to boot. (Site of a historic urinal too! Haha.)

Absolutely best black bean chicken tortilla soup I’ve ever had! Clam chowder was delicious too! I had the BBQ burger and it was amazing. My boyfriend had the Santa Fe burger and it was also delicious. Cooked medium rare. Family owned and operated and the owner was the bartender, waiter, and expeditor! Beautiful restaurant and great food! Can’t get much better than that. We will definitely be back for more!

We had a pleasant lunch; burgers were amazing and a stellar value. They were stacked with incredibly fresh ingredients, very flavorful overall! Fries were perfect and husband loved the Sirracha mayo as a dipping sauce. I had the fresh fruit as my side and loved the high quality of the grapes, sliced Bartlett pear, and Yakima apples… great wine by the glass and draft beer selection. Would definitely go for dinner, as those entrees looked appealling and owner said everything is crafted from scratch.

I am glad places like this are still in business in Yakima. I say that because the machine is oiled by the blood, sweet and tears of the amazing owners. They put everything into this place and it shows. The wine list is always top notch too. We sat at the bar. I will admit this was some time ago… not yesterday!!! We ordered a fruit and cheese platter and a bottle of wine. Service was awesome, by the owners themselves. The frickin’ fruit + cheese plate was one of the largest I have ever seen! The cuts of cheese were tremendous and the selection was fantastic. My S.O. ordered some clam chowder but we ended up taking a lot of the cheese plate home due to it’s grandeur. Oh no… left over cheese and wine what a bummer. ;-) It was a lovely experience.

I drive by there everyday and I didn’t know it was a restaurant until my boyfriend told me about it and said he had lunch there and wanted me to try the place out. So glad he took me. It will definitely be one of my/our favorite spots for lunch now. Great service and great food. Great local wine selection.

Friends and I went here based on Unilocal ratings. What a great find! The posted hours showed they closed at 8 and we arrived at 7:30. No problem! They were even letting people in after 8:00. The waiter was very friendly and helpful with the menu. One of us had chicken and the other two had the burger steak. All food was very fresh and incredibly tasty! A wine was suggested also that went very well with our dinner. The price couldn’t be beat either. Would definitely recommend this place — a great asset to downtown Yakima.

Best Santa Fe Burger ever. Marinated peppers in chipotle sauce. Crisp bacon. Blank angus burger cooked well done but was very tender. I will order med-rare next time. Fresh tasting bun and salad. Special sauce on burger. Whole thing to die for. Balebreakers on tap.

Wow. This place is awesome. Besides having some great history; an original building that started out as a Saloon over 100 years ago. The food is great. I had the mushroom wine Angus burger. It was cooked perfectly, juicey and the flavor was amazing. I ordered the coleslaw and wasn’t expecting much, but it was really good. It had a nice mix of cabbage & diced Apple which work well together. It had enough dressing without being soupy. I would definitely eat here again. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars is that I’ve only eaten here 1 time, but I will definitely stop here again.

Super chill, low-key, friendly spot in downtown Yakima. Perfect to grab a pint, try some local wines, and/or grab a delicious bite. I was on business this time around so didn’t get to imbibe, but I must say I was not expecting their grub to be as wildly delicious as it was. For vegetarians, the mushroom/pear/Gorgonzola burger was to DIE for! My goodness. One of the best meals I’ve had on the road in a long while. I originally thought the mushroom/pear/Gorgonzola mixture would come in the form of some sort of patty, but instead they came loose in between the yummy bun. The coleslaw is also excellent, although it does have apples, so Coleslaw Purists may not dig it. I did. If for some reason Yakima ever brings me out for fun instead of business, this is definitely a place I’d love to get a buzz on. The interior definitely has that old-school watering hole vibe. Friendly service, chill clientele. Definitely recommended.

Great burger and beer. Small selection of food, but nothing on the menu looks generic. I’ll be coming back when I come through Yakima again.

A wonderful stop on our way home! The owner/bartender/chef was delightful! We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch as the Barrel House is a remodeled old bar/tavern. The ambience is excellent, service great and food delicious! My husband had a wonderful bowl of clam chowder and a hamburger which he enjoyed. I had the the pear, gorgonzola and chicken melt! Fantastic! On our next trip through Yakima we will have definitely stop at the Barrel House. An important fact — The Barrel House is only open Monday-Friday.

Let me start by saying I fully meant to take a picture of the food. But I will get to that. Staying in Yakima an extra night was not what I wanted to do so far from home in Pennsylvania. Determined to try the local food and drink I came to the barrel house. It came highly recommended by my business associates. The place was fairly barren at 1 on a Wednesday with another party of 6 taking a large table in the middle. I sat down and was greeted by the barman in the perfect amount of time. Not too quick to seem anxious but not too slow indicative of poor service. I ordered a 1982 and a bbq burger. Both came full on the plate and brimming with good smells. I dove in… Like I said I meant to take a picture but when I looked down again it was gone. So delicious with just enough filling to stuff me till in dinner. This is a rare jewel in America where good food in a good folk town meet. Bottom line: if your looking for a great meal in a great place with a fine selection of microbreweries, come here.

We had a nice meal here on our way through Yakima. We were driving back on a Monday and Yakima itself seems full of chain or junk food places. We were happy to roll by the Barrel House. The service was wonderful and friendly. I had a lovely bowl of soup and my cutie enjoyed his burger a lot. It really wasn’t busy, but that could be because Unilocal showed the place as closed. It was a happy chance that we ended up eating here and next time we go through Yakima, we’ll be back!
