I was invited to a private party at Runnymede and felt like I walked into paradise in Woodside. Runnymede is 100 acres of rolling hills and sculptures. Walking through the woods and coming across an Andy Goldsworthy or other great art is very special. I made a Pixt Wall of photos, have a look.

After a visit there years ago with FAMSF for a hike and art tour, I was invited to return for a trail ride with friends from the neighboring facility NCEFT. It was magical and amazing to see the sculptures, beautiful nature surroundings, and deer from horseback. What a fabulous afternoon!

Really enjoyed the sculptures and the beautiful hillside in a tour on horseback. We saw a lot of deer too, they didn’t comment on the art, but it seems they enjoy it too.

This is an enormous 120 acre sculpture garden in the beautiful hills of Woodside. As another reviewer mentioned, many of the pieces are from the 70s and they’re by major international artists. Uphill from the barn, a hiking trail leads you into the hills with sculptures every 5 minutes between the oak trees. A few bifurcations lead you around the hillside into sculptures that were clearly designed for the specific location(Goldsworthy). There’s an amazing fragrance here, too. On the day we were here there were golf carts taking people who weren’t able to walk up into the hillside. A really magical place. If you are lucky enough to receive an invitation to take a tour, don’t miss it!

This place is the coolest, best kept secret on the peninsula. It’s a vast estate that is chock-a-bloc full of large sculptures placed carefully among nature trails. There is a distinct 70s vibe to a lot of the art — I kept waiting for a naked scifi lady wearing a tapestry to run through the grassy fields pursued by mutants, but perhaps I’ve seen Zardoz too many times. This is precisely how a sculpture garden should be set up – the pieces are far enough apart that you don’t get«museum head» from sensory overload, but close enough that some artwork lurks around every corner. If you like hiking and art, this is nirvana. I am actively considering taking an art class just to get into this estate again.

Driving on 280, you can see a couple of the sculptures and the beautiful Tudor Revival stables… which tell part of the story of Runnymede, home to the Rosenkrans family sculpture collection. Open for museum groups and art classes only occasionally, it is worth taking a class that has a planned visit or joining a museum if you notice they have a visit to Runnymede scheduled. Over 150 sculptures are placed throughout 120 acres. Most are from the mid 80s to mid 90s, including works by di Suvero, Chuck Ginnever, Celeste Roberge and Andy Goldsworthy. Some artists visited to suggest where their pieces should be placed. Hiking the property leads to wonderful, sometimes breathtaking surprises. If you can figure out a way to wangle an invite, do it!
