The North Fork Lewis River Bridge is at an important location on the I-5 in Woodland, Washington. It is a fixture of driving between Portland and Seattle, and vice-versa. The bridge can be quickly driven across by car. Although it is not discussed as often as the Interstate Bridge or the Glenn Jackson Bridge, this bridge is important in crossing the Lewis River, a tributary of the Columbia, which is nearly as vital as crossing the Columbia between Oregon and Washington. It certainly means going to Seattle is a more efficient prospect than otherwise. The bridge has been around since 1940. In the Northwest we love our bridges. It goes over a beautiful stretch of nature, with the bridge itself being like a green children’s construction toy, so it’s mostly good to look at. Kalama has food nearby and this bridge pleasantly continues the journey to Olympia and Seattle. It takes us from the more populated Clark County with Vancouver into lumber territory in Cowlitz and Lewis County. Although these areas can seam bland compared to Portland and Seattle, this is a prelude for the giant urban wonder about an hour and a half away. Laugh at some christian signs and delight at the tall trees, because you can keep the faith and drive into Canada if you have the time. This bridge is always a pleasure.
