Jay Rosenthal has outdone his Unilocal reviews. He is an absolute NIGHTMARE. He will take your money and waste your time, condescending, rude and disrespectful all bundled into a suit and BMW. Run away. Trust these reviews, it means something when ALL OF your reviews are negative. Congratulations Jay.

After a few weeks of phone calls, I finally received my refund check. Thank you management for finally addressing this.

Avoid renting from this company. The manager/​owner, Jay Rosenthal, appears most concerned with squeezing the most money he can out of you, despite it being unethical or even against the law. Early on, during the lease signing, I did not take the time to clearly read the lease form, which indicated the apartment was in pristine condition (boxes at the bottom are checked «like new» for floors, windows, etc. While it didn’t seem like an issue at first, upon move-​out I was told that I would have to pay for repainting the walls (damaged upon my move in) among other things. When I told him it was not my damage, he said it did not matter and that I would need to pay it. Luckily I took extensive photos prior to moving in, and sent him a sharply worded letter consistent with the California Tenant Manual (available online). Despite this, I still did not receive the entire amount back (received only a partial check), and had to repeatedly call him to get my full security deposit refunded to me. He told me that the follow up check he wrote me got «lost in the mail», but curiously enough the checks I mailed him on a monthly basis seemed to always get to him on time. I considered filing a law suit at that point, but he eventually did write me the check, but only after I drove out of my way to pick it up. Avoid these people – they’re out to scam you.
