I can’t say enough about this place… but let’s face facts here. If you are one of those people who appreciates the traditional corner pub of yesteryear then head to Neir’s Tavern. How many times have you gone to one of those restaurants where the wait staff treats you like«tip potential?» How many times have you gone to a restaurant where the food looks good on the menu but is boring when it comes to taste? Neither will happen to you at Neir’s Tavern. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful and warm dining experience there yesterday(Sunday). We were a group of seven. We were treated with great food, fantastic service, and tasty drinks. We were even given the honor of a visit from Neir’s gracious owner Loy who wanted only to make sure that we had a pleasurable meal and experience in his establishment. Lets face facts… if you are looking for one of those trendy places with five pages of menu items and a disconnected wait staff then Neir’s is not for you. BUT, if you are looking for a great burger that you can add your personal touch to with their«shinebox» options or a tasty«sleeping with the fishes» sandwich, not to forget the rest of the menu, then head to Neir’s Tavern. If you are more concerned with being greeted at the door by someone who really wants your patronage vice someone who only cares about quitting time then head to Neir’s Tavern. If you want to be able to truly relax and enjoy a drink and/or your meal vice having to deal with rude unaccommodating bar or wait staff then get on over to Neir’s Tavern. You won’t be disappointed.

I stopped by Neir Tavern on Saturday after hearing they had the coldest beers in the city. I don’t think that was the case :-) Service was great and the food was pretty good. It’s a great historical neighborhood bar. The décor felt like I had stepped by in time to the 1940’s. I would definitely return.

God, I love old bars. Had some time to kill before a wake, so a strolled in here with a buddy and helped work on his presentation for our class. The people couldn’t of been nicer and I had a pretty damn good burger. I told the gal behind the bar next time I go to McSorley’s I will set them straight about which is the oldest bar in the city! She asked if we were Queens boys, nope, Staten Island and Brooklyn. Got a t-shirt and will have to return someday and imbibe a bit more.

I had lived by this bar about half my life and it wasn’t until I moved away that I discovered what a historical/cool gem this place is! When I had passed by as a teenager and when I had just turned legal, I had worried that I was too young for the crowd. I would see men smoking cigarettes outside, sitting on the stools talking or hear bands playing from outside. One day my friend and I decided to come here because it was walking distance. A decision I don’t regret! That night when we went in the bar, it was a good amount of people. There were older adults there, but then some people in their 20s walked in. The bartender, Marie, made a cocktail that was green/blue in a mason jar. I asked for the same and loved it. I can’t remember the ingredients, but the bartender knew how to recreate it. I like that you can come here and have hard liquor, or a cocktail, or beer, or just for a burger and sweet potatoes(which are great.) I have been here 4⁄5 times since that night and I have always had a different experience. One weekend night, when it was quiet, my boyfriend and I golfed down drinks and freshly brewed Irish coffee, while playing Connect Four. Another night I came with a small group and shared drinks and wings while sitting at the tables. There was just one night I had a bad time coming here because it was karaōke night. the night must have been a success for the bar, but it was too full to sit down anywhere. I hate waiting so unfortunately couldn’t wait for seats. I’ll be back. Count on it.

We absolutely LOVE Neirs Tavern! We moved in to this neighborhood about 3 years ago and Neirs was one of the first places we visited. We fell in love with it since the very first day! The hospitality here is superb and the food & drinks are just as good! The prices btw– super affordable! Deff not some overpriced joint. A hidden gem in this community. You would think a place this awesome would be crowded all the time. We love going to Neirs any day but especially to watch the games and recently went for the Super Bowl… Enjoyed every minute of it! Recommend the Parmesan Crusted Fish & Chips, one of the best I ever had… The Goodfellas Burger, Buffalo Chicken Sandwich are also good. Oh– & of course the Habanero Hot wings!

Neirs is a serious locals bar! My sister just moved into the area and her husband is in heaven! He could not have asked for a better spot to grab a drink. I could feel his excitement when I came to see the house. He was like a kid’s first day at school. It was like… can we go?! My most memorable time coming though has to be after my bro in law returned from a ugly xmas sweater contest before the contest took place. My sister and I had a cookie disaster and the medicine was a nice cold beer. We walked our way into a crowded bar. Neirs is one of NY’s oldest bars(Over 180 Years) and most fun. The game was on. I don’t know what game but people were pumped. There was excitement in the room. The ugly xmas sweater contest began right after the game. The back room is rather large. I of course cheered for my sister’s sweater, an ode to the Godfather with a dead horse head xmas sweater! It was very appropriate since Neirs was the setting for certain film scenes from the famous Italian gangster movie, Goodfellas! This was a fun night. The actual bar is carved out of one solid piece of wood. They have a nice beer selection and hard alcohol. The only issue is its CASHONLY! Also the menu is your standard bar/pub good of nachos and fried items. Since, I’m pescatarian there is not too much that drew me in. I did try the nachos and they were on the ok side. So stick to the beer and get ready to have a good time.

this is a very very cute bar. it’s cozy but with enough space for a sit down dinner. i had the special of the day, chili crock pot, and it was tasty. also had the onion rings, too greasy, but i think that’s how most people like them? there’s a handful of good draft beers – their Guinness was refreshing. there were some loud gross guys who came in and i had to move from the bar to the back room. easy solutions. been living in Woodhaven for several years now and this place seems to be one of the few neutral/interesting late night hangouts available in the area.

Stopped in for the first time ever today to grab a beer and burger with a buddy who lives in the neighborhood. Beer was cold, burger was good and the bartender spoke to us like she knew us for years. I will make it a point to return when I’m in the area again.

The Films and Movies that were filmed here, is the big thing that I kept hearing about this place… And since my boyfriend and fellow Unilocaler Elitist has raved so much about Neirs, Deniro, Wise guys and such, he decided to one day spontaneously take me here to experience it for myself. Walking in during mid-day, it was pin dropping quiet. The waitress behind the bar was all smiles and delighted in answering every question that my boyfriend and i thrown her way. GOODFELLAS… was i really standing in this iconic bar? And shown where these amazing actors stood and read there lines to the big movie cameras. I pictured the set in my head, as I’ve seen the film some several times. The original metallic Tin roof was stunning. Also i was in awe by the beauty of craftsmanship of the Original Mahogany Bar. No longer legal in NY. May West framed and pictured in statue-esk pose, i was told performed here in her hay day as well. And lets not forget a more recent Hollywood Blockbuster that was also filmed here as well… TOWERHEIST. I sat at the bar with my significant other, laughing, talking & enjoying a drink almost exactly where Ben Stiller and Tia Lione sat conversing with each other. Next time we go back… it will definitely be to enjoy the great food I’ve heard about as well…

Impeccable service, was greeted by my server with a handshake. She was super sweet. Gave us a backstory of the bar, told us some of the faves on the menu & offered suggestions for drinks. We got the cotton candy & Thai honey chili wings… oh my God were they good!!! I don’t know which I liked better but they were perfect. Nice size, juicy, fall off the bone tender & the flavor ahhhhhh Heaven! We also got the Mac n cheese, it had too much tyme or oregano that I couldn’t really taste anything but that. Tried a Mai-Tai then a tequila sunrise, both good. Reasonable prices, will def return.

This place makes anyone feel like a local! Just walk in and look at the old nostalgic photos on the wall. Order a cold beer or Cider and a fat burger! You will not be disappointed in either the food nor the atmosphere. I cannot wait to take my out of town friends here. Keep doing what you’re doing! ***only tip I’d give is ensue all staff is proficient in the menu and make drink menus for the tables****

«Whadda I tell youz? Don’t buy nothin’!» Jimmy Conway scoulding a fellow and soon to be dirt napping goodfella, referring to the money taken from the 1977 Lufthansa heist — -picture included. Yes, I stood in that very spot and absorbed the moment to its fullest, it was powerful to me. Aside from the movie lore, the historical aspects of this Queens landmark are tremendous, to not paraphrase quickly, would be to miss the fact that these grounds paved the way for our Queens living so it will be sketched only briefly here. I do intend to pay proper historical homage to these ornamental grounds on my blog, as the words will be many. A double sided menu the size of an envelope speaks to a proper and patient kitchen offerings, yet enough to excite any bar food enthusiast. Shoe Shine Box Burger on brioche takes a top ‘3’ burger in Queens position. Neirs Special Sauce brought my perfectly cooked chopped meat to a new burger flavor I’d yet to put the mac on. Opt for a burger with ingredients personalized to you? It’s available, and the topping options, a mere buck per upcharge will happily surprise foodies, as wildcard toppings are available, I’ll not spoil the secrets. Tap beers pour through a coil system topped with ice, a consistant temperature, a perfect pour every time. Weekly ice delivery a short 75 years gone sat upon these metallic downward spiraling beer flumes. I was the fortunate recipient of a hands on tour and explanation of the process. Happy hour drinks will run you three dollars, lunch menu is a flat five dollar price, with three options available. A twinge of frustrational shock shot up my spine as I read the reviews that took exception to the most miniscule and inconsequential aspects, writing their shortsightedness as the prevailing operations within.

Love this place. Me and my family come here the food is great and so is the atmosphere. there is only ONE problem… Please please hire more staff! Waiting for a drink on a weekend is ridiculous when you have the poor bartender running around like a chicken working the bar and the tables. Yes I know cheaper for the owner, and more money for the bartender but its important to keep your customers happy also. There should be a waitress and a bartender like there use to be. But WELOVE the bartenders !

Had my first beer in a bar at Neir’s when I was 15, I’m now 50. I went back to see what all the hype was about. They took out the bowling ally s which I think was a mistake because it was a staple of the bars history. Anyway was back in the neighborhood for a wake and decided to stop on with some friends for a few beers. There was one person at the bar who looked like he’s been there since 1983, we ordered a few appetizers, thee potato skins were wedge fries with some melted cheese on them and the wings were so small they could have been from a pigeon. The chicken fingers were ok if you’re not that hungry. The place is good to stop in if you want a slice of queens history(it may be the oldest bar) they push the fact that goodfellas was filmed there which is on but the real history is Mae west preformed there and the upstairs was an allege cat house

Lived in Woodhaven for years and this was by far the best bar. I miss it greatly. They rehabbed it a few years back, kept everything great and classic, and only improved the place with their changes. A jukebox full of Johnny Cash, a portrait of Mae West where she once held court, and a great atmosphere. This place has never been anything other than welcoming and I think I’ll have to make a trip back to it soon.
