Friendly, good variety, and helpful staff. Unfortunately, my work is not too far away from it so I find myself constantly running over on lunch breaks:) Like other reviewers have mentioned there is a large selection of Cascade and Lamb’s Pride – which is nice since they have virtually all of the rainbow represented! Prices are a little higher than other yarn stores in the metro but the location and the friendliness of the staff makes up for paying an extra few bucks. Overall Knit’n From the Heart is an above average yarn store. You won’t experience any snootiness from any of the staff, which I sometimes get from other LYS’s as a young knitter who doesn’t buy madelinetosh every time I come in. Oh, they also have a frequent flier card – nice since I find myself in there at least once a week! You have to spend 400 dollars to get $ 20, but I can’t think of any other yarn stores who offer that! Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

This is a pretty good yarn store. I think their prices are a tad high compared to the national average, but cheaper than other places I have been to in the city. The staff here is really friendly and they have nice places to sit and knit. They were very tolerant of my 1 year old toddling around and looking at the various knitted toys. Their sale area was paltry. They do have a ball winder and will wind your yarn for you(even if it is on sale — not always true).

I stopped in here today with a girlfriend who is rather new to knitting. She had never been to a local yarn shop and was very excited about coming here. I was delighted that she had the same reaction I always do when I enter the store — OOOOOOH! This is the 4th or 5th time I have been to Knit’n From the Heart and I have to say I am a fan. And it was a great place for a new knitter to go to get a taste of the yummy fibers that you can find outside of a JoAnn’s or Michaels. We were able to find yarn for our project that was very affordable and I also picked up a double point needle holder so I won’t loose my stitches on my projects when I take it with on my next knit night. This store is big enough to hold a good supply of yarns, a nice selection of needles and some exotic fiber and supplies that tantalize.(I spotted leather for attaching to slipper bottoms! And a hand knit gnome!) Yet they aren’t so big that you walk around in a fiber stuper — so drunk on color and texture that you don’t know what to buy. I give them credit for switching stuff around frequently in there. The very first time I came in the store the front area was a sea of pastel baby yarn. This time it was warm chunky rowan yarn in fall tones. Your hands burry themselves in the bins without you even being aware its happening. And the service there today was wonderful. They offered to ball up my skein of Burly Spun and it seems so rare that they offer to ball yarn for you at a shop now. And like Jaymi I love that they keep your frequent shopper card in a file box at the front. My purse is already bulging with frequent shopper cards and business cards… so it was really nice that they keep them at the shop for you there.

I’m one of those people who knits off and on during the year. I’m not super hardcore or super good at it, but I’ve mastered some of the more advanced techniques and enjoy knitting when I’m actually doing it. My attention span is just crap. If I had to be perfectly honest, the few knitting stores I frequent in Minneapolis are pretty bullshit. I decided to try the different stores on Beth’s list because I’m sick of going into stores and either not finding anything but novelty yarn or not being acknowledged at all. I drove out to Woodbury to give this store a try and I learned two things: there is absolutely nothing worth mentioning between south Minneapolis and Woodbury and Woodbury is also really far away. I actually contemplated turning around a few times, but I watched my gas gauge go down far enough to know going back would have been really, really stupid. I like this store! The two women there were more than helpful and were both very enthusiastic. I had made the decision to try Knit’n From the Heart because my local store only had one kind of yarn that even came close to what I needed(worsted weight with a nice enough texture for a scarf… yeah, basic, I know.) This store may not have a gigantic selection, but what they have really is nice and covers the basics and then some. The main reason I love their frequent buyer program? They keep the punch cards at the store and don’t hand it over to me. I ALWAYS lose those things, so I like this idea. I walked out with some really pretty Malabrigo at a nice price. Some of the yarn(like the Cascade) was a dollar or two more expensive than it is in Minneapolis, but my experience here was so great that I didn’t care.

Sometimes newish yarn stores don’t stand up to my expectations. I try not to hold this against them because they are new and I realize that it takes a long time to build up an inventory, but I never felt the need to question the direction this store was going. It opened in the spring of 2007 and the first time I went there(a couple months after they opened) I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of yarn I saw. I live scary close to this store so have had the chance to watch it grow in the past year and have been very pleased with it. There is a good selection of Cascade 220 and Lamb’s Pride, which are like the meat and potatoes of the yarn world, in my opinion. These yarns come in every color imaginable and can be used for countless types of projects. Both are also affordable and versatile. I question yarn stores that don’t carry these types of «staple» yarns and choose to ply their wares in the form of expensive/trendy novelty yarns. So kudos to Knit’n From the Heart for being the good kind of yarn store. I’m also impressed by the collection of sock yarn, which is different every time I come in. I bought the most beautiful colorway of Trekking XXL(my current favorite for sock yarn) from this store and will absolutely be back for more in the near future. Hm, what else? Oh! They have a Frequent Buyer Program. This is the kind of perk that gets me into a store every time(for every $ 400 you spend, you get $ 20 off your next purchase). The employees are also friendly and helpful. Sometimes I’m one of those people who would rather be ignored when I’m in a store because I’m kind of shy and I also can’t think about why I’m in the store if someone is jabbering away at me. All the people who work here have managed to find that happy in-between of being welcoming while letting you shop in peace if that’s what you want. Other yarns I ogle when I come into this store: Malabrigo, Noro, Aracaunia. Yum.
