So disappointed… I want to start by saying the food we had was excellent. We only made it through the first course(lamb lollipops and mussels) though. We had a very early reservation(5:15) and were only one of two tables in the restaurant. Within one minute of being seated, we were asked to order first course(before being asked what we wanted to drink). We were then asked to order second and third courses. We explained that this was ‘date night’ and our only time away from our baby, so we were not in any rush to order the second and third courses. After being almost immediately pressured again, we ordered our second course(first course hadn’t even arrived yet). Right after we ordered, we heard the two waitresses talking poorly about us. They were standing behind a half wall within five feet of our table. We tried to brush it off, but one of the waitresses(Stephanie) kept giving us dirty looks every time she walked by our table. It was an extremely odd situation. Then AGAIN, we heard the waitresses talking about us! Very uncomfortable situation. We stopped our waitress to ask if we had done something wrong — why it was bad to order an appetizer before ordering an entrée… she apologized for their unprofessionalism but was not very sincere. Every other table in the restaurant was the 50+ crowd(granted it was only 5:45pm and maybe 4 other tables were seated by this time). If Mise En Place wants to appeal to the younger crowd, they need to get their wait staff in check. They were not welcoming and not hospitable in the least bit. It was as if they did not want people our age(30) to dine at their restaurant. We are a local couple and were ready to spend a lot of money at this restaurant, as we’d been wanting to try it out for quite some time. We are huge foodies and accustomed to the Charleston, SC culinary scene. This just didn’t even come close to a professional restaurant environment. It was a joke compared to the service we are used to in Charleston. The chef and food quality — yes, wonderful. The wait staff — not by a long shot. It is worth stating that we believe our waitress(didn’t give her name) was not the instigator of the customer trash talk. It was Stephanie who started the conversations that we heard, our waitress just joined in and went along with it. Also — the wine list was horrible. All the options were $ 9-$ 10 wines we buy at the local store just marked up 4x. We had every wine on their list in our wine cellar at home. Nothing new and exciting. For a French restaurant, we would have expected a more sophisticated, old-world wine selection. When being poured wine and water, they grabbed our glasses by the rim(where you drink from) instead of the stem. Unsanitary and unprofessional. We left after eating our first course(just before 6pm) and weren’t even given any consolation for our poor service. We paid our bill and were actually charged for the second course that wasn’t even delivered to the table. Great food, wish we could have enjoyed it, and wish we could tell all our friends to come here. Unfortunate that this restaurant does not cater to anyone under 50.

Excellent! Was looking for a nice place to celebrate our anniversary. Looked at the reviews on Unilocal while we were passing through Wolfesboro. It looked like the place we we’re looking for. It was perfect the food was excellent service was friendly an prompt. The risotto is to die for. I could of had a big bowl of that alone and been happy. Chef came out to greet us and see how our meals were. Great experience they made our anniversary a special day for sure. I wish we lived closer so we could go back more often. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for fine dinning.

So much better than Wolfes Tavern in the Inn we stayed at. Even with dinner included in our stay at the Wolfeboro Inn we chose to dine here and wow did we luck out. Excellent fresh pasta and a perfectly cooked filet made for a very memorable evening. We will definitely be back to Mise en Place!

To my knowledge the only upscale dining experience in Wolfeboro. Everything else is either touristy or deep fried whatever. In terms of décor/ambiance, there really isn’t much. It’s a square dining room. No bar, although there is liquor service. Mature crowd. We showed up without dinner reservations on a Friday night and were told they were full up, but could fit us in. The room is only half full, the dining room has only about 15 tables, but they want to squeeze us in between other occupied tables(we decline and ask to be seated in a less«crowded in» part of the dining room which they accommodate). An hour and a half later and the place is still only half full. Aside from the above service lapses the cuisine was quite nice and the wine options, although limited, were tasty. The dinner service itself was prompt. Not sure it was worth the $ 200 plus we spent on dinner, but we weren’t disappointed by anything we ordered.

Really good food, only if your order correctly. I feel like this place has gone downhill over the past few years. It’s inconsistent as well. Just had tuna tartare, heirloom tomatoes, and chicken piccata, and it was fabulous. Order carefully! Don’t eat outside if you’re going to be there past 8. Mosquitos will have a much better dinner than you.

Overall good experience. I tried to make a dinner reservation at 8pm on Saturday night. A nice woman called me back to tell me 745 was the earliest they could do. When we arrived, 80% of the tables were empty– not quite sure why we couldn’t have our 8pm reservation. Drinks were good. Gin martini was strong and delicious– decent for a place w no real bartender. Our waitress was friendly. We had the Brie/pomegranate special for an appetizer, very nice. I had the duck and he had the veal/chicken dish. Good food. Nice homemade feel. Wine menu is small and didnt work very well w the options on the dinner menu. Ambiance was quiet and clean. Nice lighting.

Mise En Place is without question one of the best restaurants in the New Hampshire lakes region. The food is consistently excellent. The presentation and quality is superb. The service is outstanding, Michelle who heads the server group is wonderful, and all the folks who work with her in the dining room are equally fantastic. They really care and strive to provide the best in food and service, and they have truly accomplished it. As summer residents of Lake Winnipesaukee we can wait to return in the Spring to enjoy all the great food and service that Mise En Place offers. Thank you all for a great foodie summer!

We sat outside on the patio, nice and relaxing — less noisy than inside. Menu looked fantastic. We placed our order and the waitress warned us that, «the kitchen was a little backed up.» She was not kidding, i have never waited so long for food in my life. We arrived at 7pm and our entrees were served at 8:30. Had I not flagged down the waitress to tell her we needed to leave, we may still be sitting there waiting for our entrees. Sadly, during the time we waited for our food, the outdoor patio became less relaxing due to the onslought of ferocious misquitos. I ordered the soup of the day, «Cream of Asparagus». Great fresh flavor but the serving was tiny. My husband ordered the tuna tartare, fairly basic but unoffensive. For our entrees, i ordered the pumpkin ravioli appetizer — very heavy and smothered in coconut which seemed to compete with the pumpkin flavor, in a bad way. My husband got the scallops which were served with an eggpant pesto. The egglplant pesto was dry, dry, dry and had nothing to do with the rest of the dish and neither did the white rice that was not even mentioned in the menu description. We didn’t try the dessert because by that time I had wrapped napkins around my legs to ward off the pesky bugs; and quite frankly, we didn’t have another hour to wait for the dessert to arrive. Perhaps we would have had a better experience when the restaurant was less busy on a weeknight — but who knows.

I went out to eat here with my family while on vacation. It is definitely a hidden gem since it is not right on the main strip. I am glad a friend gave us the suggestion to go here. The food was absolutely delicious. I started off with a port soaked strawberry salad and then had a pumpkin ravioli dish wish grilled shrimp for my entrée. The sauce on this dish was incredible. I was very happy with my choices and there were so many other dishes on the menu and specials that sounded amazing. They have a nice wine selection and can make cocktails as well. My family and I shared a delicious bottle of syrah. Great overall experience and look forward to going back!

I have been to Mise en Place twice now, and it was excellent both times. This mysteriously quaint restaurant in Wolfeboro has quite a reputation, and my boyfriend and I were eager to try it the first time we went. This small-town restaurant is comfortable and casual. Our appetizers have included mint lamb lollipops, baked brie inside a puff pastry, and sea scallops with bacon and potato. When a meal starts off well, it’s exciting to ponder the entrees to come. For entrees, my boyfriend and I have had the salmon with salsa, broccoli rabe, and broccoli; the lobster risotto; the lobster and artichoke scampi; and the baked crab-stuffed shrimp. Absolutely delicious! In addition to the fabulous meals we’ve had here, the bottles of wine we have ordered are also under $ 30, which seems more than reasonable to me. This restaurant is a treat whenever we are in the area, and I highly recommend it for a romantic evening out.

Great food, great waitstaff, great little secret in Wolfboro. You definitely need reservations as this place does not have a large dining room but it is worth a visit or 2 or many more. There is just something different they add to each dish to make it deliciously special and like no other. Check this place out.

We visited Mise En Place last night during a 3-day trip to Lake Winnipesaukee. I selected the restaurant based on reviews(largely positive) but found the actual result on a Thursday night in July to fall short. We had a reservation for 6:15 but when we arrived were sqeezed unceremoniously into a table next to the kitchen. I took the kitchen view so my companions could view the restaurant, but we were all overwhelmed by the din. The small restaurant(maybe 12 tables) was full of older patrons, all shouting at each other. It is the loudest(fine dining) restaurant I’ve ever visited. We struggled to converse throughout the meal. Our server, a woman, was barely cordial. The wines by the glass are very expensive, so we asked to try a taste of the house White, which the restaurant sells for $ 6/glass. The wine was not great(our server checked the label and we learned it’s a wine that retails at $ 5.99/bottle). That’s a 4x mark-up on wine. We ended up going with the pricey but very good Wild Horse Chardonnay at $ 9/glass, with 2 of us sharing 3 glasses over the course of the evening. Service was extremely slow. We received our rolls about 15 minutes after ordering, and then waited another half hour to get our salads. Our entrees had good flavor and the visual presentation was very nice(Lobster & Crab Risotto, Lobster Artichoke Scampi with Sun-dried Tomato over Linguine, and the restaurant’s Bouillibase) but at $ 27-$ 28 the portions of seafood were very small. I found a couple of small chunks of lobster in my Linguine and that was it. Our waitress continued her indifference until the check arrived, when she was lovely, asking if we enjoyed our meal and wishing us a delightful evening. I might return to Mise En Place for the food(though I’d likely choose a piece of fish or veal so I could see what I paid for) but the noise and disappointing service makes it a toss up.

Delicious food in a friendly, comfortable setting. Five of us ate here and found every dish to be well prepared. We had a variety of appetizers and entrees, and all were consistently good and beautifully presented. The wine list is small but the selections are good, and overall the prices are reasonable given the quality of the food. By the way, if you’re looking for an online copy of the menu, the only place it is available at the time of this writing is on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Fantastic upscale food in a cozy environment. These people know how too cook. We both ordered the fish, which was cooked to perfection. The soup de jour was an Indian tomato soup which was a meal in itself. The chocolate pâté for desert was so rich it paid the bill. Definately a must try if you are in the area.

Hands down, the best restaurant in Wolfeboro or around the lake and I’ve tried nearly all of them at one time or another. Closes early(no reservations after 8 pm) and is small, but the food is diverse and wonderful, and the menu is extensive and creative. I’ve eaten here several times on my trips to Winnipesaukee and never been disappointed — ever. Reservations a must, even in the depth of winter(when it’s open!). Caveat: it is a small restaurant — no more than 30 people — with hardwood floors and the noise level can be high. On occasion if it’s really busy, the service can be frenetic as it was once when only two people were available to serve and bus 8 tables.

Not just the best restaurant anywhere on Lake Winnipesaukee, but one of my favorites anywhere. The chefs moved up from Boston a few years ago and have created a culinary jewel. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The baked brie, the bread, the soups, the goat cheese salad, the profiteroles, the lemon tart, and the bananas foster all keep me coming back for more. And the service is exemplary.

This is, by far, the best restaurant in the lower winnipesaukee area. No joke. And in 30 years, my family has tried them all. It has fancy city food but it is not stuffy. You have to call for a reservation — it’s a small space. It is chef-owned and everything I’ve ordered there has been excellent. 08÷15÷07 — The French President and his family ate here while they were vacationing at Lake Winnipesaukee. What other endorsement do you need?
