Always go here for my local Chinese food. Food is ready quick and consistently great. Only downfall is the price. It’s a bit more expensive but the portions are huge.

just ordered take out at Ginger Root in woburn ma, a pu pu for two and some jumpo shrimp with scallops. the pu pu was awful the only good thing on it was the bbq strips, the egg rolls had a taste like gas and the chicken wings i have no idea what they did two them, it seemed like they were old and they put some other kinda batter on them and recooked them yuck… i was about to bring them back and have them eat them right in front of me just to see if they would eat there own food, they looked nasty and tasted nasty… i just wasted 33 dollars at this place. would never order there again

I have ordered from here three times now for delivery while staying at hotels in the area, and they have been on point every single time! The delivery people are always so friendly and nice! My special instructions are always honored, and they always deliver before the predicted time: usually in only 20 – 30 minutes, which is a pretty major hustle by Boston area delivery standards. Food is SO good! They have hot and sour wonton soup which is INGENIOUS for those of us who like both of those soups and always agonize over which one to get. Agonize no longer, comrades– Ginger Root has your back! And though it may cost $ 4.50 to order said soup, it’s enough for 2 people. I also am a sucker for healthy Chinese options(I know, oxymoron), but they have a lot of choices with a choice of some nice sauces on the side, including a light white wine sauce, and even their«non-diet» selections(those which are not fried) taste fresh and aren’t laden with too much oil. Their specialty dishes are also really good, including their mango chicken. I’ve also tried their sushi, which is delish! The maki rolls are huge and they are super generous with the wasabi and ginger, which is rare– and they provide a really nice container of soy sauce, which is SO much nicer than dealing with 100 annoying packets. Only downside is that they charge extra for rice(kind of a MA thing– NYC Chinese ALWAYS comes with rice). Other than that, this place is probably one of the best Chinese /Japanese restaurants I’ve had for delivery in a long long time!

Not sure why this place is getting such a bad wrap. It’s our go to Chinese place in Woburn. The food is always fresh and cooked to order. Delivery may take a little while but the food will always come hot. Order the crab Rangoon, you won’t be disappointed!

Been looking for a halfway decent Chinese/American food place. This is the third one I’ve tried and by far the best one. The vegetable fried rice was eh but the chow mien and crab rangoon was great!

I went for sesame chicken. The service was fast but expensive. Paid $ 12.24 for just the chicken, no rise. Besides that when I got home, most of it was bread and just tiny bits(or none) inside the breaded part. Very disappointed as I was craving for it.

NEVERNEVERAGAIN I ordered delivery when my food came it wasn’t what I ordered. I called back and he insisted that it was what I ordered and when I argued he put another man on the phone and he told me that was what I ordered so im am stuck with it. The boneless spare ribs are horrible cant chew them they are so dry and the flavor is bad. Worst Chinese I have ever tasted save your money

What a terrible restaurant! Every order placed online takes at least an hour and twenty for the delivery man to arrive! Horrible service!

First time I order takeout from this place. Prepping the food took an hour and delivery to a Woburn address… Well I’m still waiting. It’s been 30 min now…

Surprisingly good sashimi. I mean, really, what was I thinking ordering delivery sushi? Yet somehow my faith was rewarded. And everything else was surprisingly good as well, particularly the vegetarian hot and sour soup. Delivery(through Foodler) was much faster than promised. All in all, a very good experience.

Decent Chinese food, nothing special. The atmosphere in the restaurant is strictly storefront, not a great place to sit and eat unless it’s for a quick lunch. Usually we do takeout. They are very efficient and have not made a mistake. It is standard-issue American style Chinese. I felt when they first opened there was a little more emphasis on freshness and attention to preparation, now they are phoning it in a little more. The food is a little on the greasy side but that’s not always a terrible thing. Generally there is more heat than in most Chinese restaurants so watch out for that, and ask them to tone it down if you don’t want it spicy. The prices are reasonable, and if you order a certain amount you get free appetizers.

I’m not sure what happened, but it hasn’t been very good as of late and is no longer my first, second or even third choice for Chinese takeout in the area(those go to Yangtze and Changhai in Lexington). I remember it being better than maybe what it really is which is a shame.

I stopped in at Ginger Root for dinner takeout very recently. I ordered the Combination Special D20 Garlic Spicy Tofu($ 6.95) served with vegetable fried rice and appetizer(I chose chicken teriyaki). The food was all set in under 10 minutes after ordering. The portion of hot food was generous. The main tofu dish was very tasty with firm bean curd triangles, green peppers, onions, celery, carrots, water chestnut, baby corn, snow peas, and bok choy in a pretty spicy garlic sauce. The fried rice(brown color) was fairly decent with a mix of soft short grain rice, carrot, egg, onions, and scallions. The chicken teriyaki stick was tender and sweet. I would Chinese takeout from Ginger Root again!

This is some of the worst Chinese food I ever had. My wife ordered shrimp with lobster sauce and the shrimp tasted«off». I ordered Egg Foo Young that had a grease puddle in the bottom of the take out box. They did not send any traditional gravy for it — but there was a container of what tasted like thickened soy sauce that was inedibly salty. THe other dish was cold noodles with a peanit sauce — the predominant flavor is the bitterness of bean sprouts. The salt and pepper Calamari was over salted with a greasy batter and rubbery squid. Pork fried rice was just OK, wonton soup was pleasantly not overly salty, but the broth lacked flavor. Bottom line, we are not ordering from them again — unless they change cooks and get some new recipies.

I am a Chinese food fanatic and have tried all of the various restaurants in Woburn center. Some have crappy food, others are too expensive, but Ginger Root finally gets it right. The food is excellent. General Gao’s chicken, the yardstick by which I measure is crispy, spicy, and sweet, just as it should be. The boneless spareribs aren’t greasy or fatty and the scallion pancakes are perfectly cooked. They also have a dish I’ve never seen at other places, Chicken with Edamame and Walnuts. I thought this was going to be a bland chicken dish, but I was surprised by the smooth garlic/white wine sauce and the sweet candied walnuts… a definite winner. But what really sets this restaurant apart is the service. I’ve ordered from them over twenty times at this point and every time the people answering the phone are polite and easy to work with. The delivery times quoted are always on the mark or early. One time, the delivery time was quoted as half an hour, but there was a problem that delayed that. The restaurant called me(without provocation) to inform me my order was going to be late and took $ 10 off the bill. Now that is great service. I can’t recommend this place enough. Thank you Ginger Root for filling a much needed void in Woburn!!!

A new Chinese restaurant opened in busy Woburn Square in the former Kung Foo Panda space. Ginger Root is a pleasant surprise! Newly renovated space, parking is difficult(street) and a public lots within walking distance. Lunch specials are competitively priced at $ 5.95 which include choice of app, soup, rice, and entrée. The L7, Hunan Pork was delicious and filled with fresh veggies(onion, carrot, pea pods, and broccoli.) The only complaint was the broccoli was woody tasting and tough as they did not peel the tough stems. The hot & sour soup was the winner here today. Some of the best I have ever had. Sweet, tangy, hot, peppery, silky and filled with tofu strips, wood ear, red pepper flakes. The egg roll was just okay. The rice was well done but tasty. Big portions here. A good value. This business has a sister restaurant w/. the same name in Newton. I will def order again, but get delivery as parking sucks.
