I caught them at the farmers market Monday night outside stardust. The chorizo duck tacos were great and my girlfriend and I thought the freshly grilled pretzels were even better then those at the main Smiling Bison restaurant.

I was able to try Smiling Bison items at the Audubon Park farmer’s market yesterday. I’d say overall it was good, but not amazing. I was with my husband and two friends. My husband ordered a buffalo chicken dog with barbecue chips while my friend ordered a curry wurst. They received their food pretty quickly and sat down nearby. I stood there for a bit and one of the two men behind the«counter» of the truck asked if I was ready to order. Having seen the crispy pork tacos, I ordered those but was told they were out. Bummer! Okay, I said, I’ll have the buffalo chicken dog. Well, I stood there for several minutes longer; I figured it was just the food taking a little while. I watched as husband and friends finished their food and started to wander around the market. Minutes passed and the other man behind the counter(the one who had taken my buffalo chicken dog order having walked away a while back) said«Are you ready to order?» Huh? I told him I(thought) I had ordered a while back and wanted the buffalo dog. To his credit, he got to work on it right away and I had the dog within a few minutes, but all told, I ended up waiting a little while because it seemed like there was some miscommunication going on. The second guy(the one who cooked my dog) did apologize for the wait, which I appreciated. However, even if it had been lightning-fast and prompt, I probably wouldn’t order this again. I was expecting something more buffalo-wing tasting, probably with some blue cheese flavor, when I ordered this dog. There was very little of either taste, unfortunately. There were pickled carrots on top, which were good, but a bit jarring with the proposed«buffalo» flavor. Overall, it tasted strongly of the sausage(which was good) and the pickled carrots – which were fine, but not«buffalo» at all. The BBQ chips on the side were great and the pickle slices a bit spicy and very tasty. Maybe the tacos would have been better; I don’t know. But I was underwhelmed with the service and the food, and I wouldn’t recommend.

I was able to try one of their beef hot dogs at the Aububon Park farmer’s market last night. The hot dog had cheese and pickled onions and served on toasted Old Hearth Bakery Bread. On the side were homemade pickle slices and homemade bbq chips. It was all quite tasty. I can’t wait to explore more of their options. I didn’t ask where their normal locations will be but hopefully they will keep their website up to date.
