Visited in March, 2010. Silverado I is a rental condominium managed by Beaver Village Resort. The condos are a bit older and could use some modernization, but offer a fairly quaint facility for you to rest your weary self after a day of hiking or skiing at Winter Park. There’s ample parking and the unit(we were in the three-hundred building) could easily fit eight people before someone has to sleep on the floor. Coffee and tea were available along with a microwave, electric stove, dish washer, tiny television with basic cable television, VCR, DVD player, and fire place. The unit heat worked very well and there are multiple controls to ensure that the heat can vary throughout the unit. One small drawback: there’s a few building in this complex and building three and four lean up against the Union Pacific Moffat subdivision railroad line. There’s about 3 – 4 coal trains at night that rumble through here and due to a grade crossing nearby, use their whistle diligently. If you’re a light sleeper, you may consider this to be a problem. However, if you like trains… it’s really a neat location for seeing trains push up the 2-percent grade through the winding route in Winter Park. Amtrak’s California Zephyr also sneaks through twice daily. The Winter Park shuttle stops about 20 feet from the driveway entrance, so save a tree and take it to the slopes. All in all, Silverado I is a pretty decent place for the money you’ll pay.
