Washington perk is a nice little place to get coffee and relax in this area. We were just looking for a place to chat and spend some time. The coffee was better than expected and they have a pretty good selection of sandwiches to choose from. The service was fast and friendly towards us. We will be back when we find ourselves in this part of town.

Their sandwiches are pretty good for the low price. However, their staff is consistently rude and needlessly impatient. I cant ever seem to order anything(politely) without receiving sass and ridicule. Today was the final straw for their completely terrible customer service. I sat down at a table and set up my laptop. I waited a couple minutes to order a coffee because the barista was busy making several drinks. I finally ordered after 5 minutes(and of course received an insane amount of sass for 10 am), and while I waited for my coffee to be ready, another employee came up to me and said I need to buy something if I want to stay. Needless to say, I no longer felt welcome stay and do work here, thought I had planned to stay and buy several snacks and coffees. They continuously create a hostile environment and treat their customers terribly. I do not recommend being here for longer than the needed 2 minutes, or you are guaranteed to be angry the rest of the day. Get a cheap grilled cheese and run out of there.

I needed a place to relax and take care of business. Starbucks was closed but ran across the doors and walked in. Great service, great coffee, great wifi. Will be back. Very simple place and away from the usual crowd. Exactly what I wanted.

I stopped into Washington Perk with my husband last week and it is the cutest little deli and store. I had their turkey sandwich on homemade bread and it was fabulous! And for only $ 4.50! That is cheaper than Subway and absolutely delicious! I’d definitely recommend as a great fast lunch! I will definitely be back to try some of their other sandwiches. Great prices and friendly staff.

Great frozen custard and sandwiches. Coffee section is also pretty good. Just went here for dinner and lunch. Not a huge selection in the grocery section, but it looks convenient. Lots of varieties of candy

I appreciate Washington perk just for being there. It’s very convenient for me as sometimes an office I work at is on 4th street. The staff is always nice and helpful and I usually can find what I need. They have sandwiches made to order in the back, I’ve only had one, but it was yummy. They have wine and beer and a little area to chill if you want to enjoy your purchases there. The only drawback is the employees smoke cigarettes in the entryway. This is super annoying to me as a non smoker and being allergic to cigarettes. When people go in and out of the door the smoke rolls in and then the perk and I smell like smoke. The only drawback of this place, however, winston def needs the perk downtown. One suggestion would be that they stay open later on weekends, 3am would be good ;)

They got a lot going on here for a small place. Coffee shop, a deli, and a mini market. So the grocery items are really just the essentials and a few speciality items. If you live or work downtown then it is a quick and convenient place to get a six pack of beer, milk or a bottle of wine. You are paying the price for convenience but nothing outrageous. It’s part of the trade off. The beer selection is pretty good for a small store. The wine selection is small but doable if you are in a pinch. I personally think it is cool that they also serve coffee and have deli inside the market.

Very disappointed in this neighborhood market. There is not much in the way of grocery shopping available in downtown Winston Salem and we had hoped this would fix this problem for those of us living in the heart of downtown. Sadly, it’s not much more than a glorified liquor store. The beer selection is extensive but the rest of the selection is odd and extremely limited. It’s a bizarre experience trying to shop here — you find some decent local milk and eggs, but little else to bring a meal together. Unless you want hormone laden bacon or one type of grated cheese; overall, the impression we have is that the management has no idea about creating a selection of functional, good quality food. To top it off, they don’t feature the best bakery in town which sells right across the street — why not carry a few baguettes from Camino? I could go on and on about their strange selection, but the saddest part of this store is the quality of their staff. Young, poorly trained and disinterested in retail, these guys will have trouble making it if they hope to aspire to more than a liquor store that sells over priced beer to college students and homeless people. Owners — if you’re out there — please take note! We want you to succeed but you haven’t given locals a place to actually buy food.
