We go to Tokyo about 1 time/month. Tonight we were not impressed with the waitress. She brought someone a wrong drink, said she’d be back with the correct one and didn’t come back with it until 12 minutes or so later. There was no silverware at the table. We weren’t asked if we wanted chopsticks. After taking our food order, we didn’t see her for a long time. To be fair she was on top of the drinks while we were eating. We are used to wait staff there that are more attentive. What bothers us is, the tip is split 50⁄50 with the chef and we would not have left that amount for the waitress. The star rating above is for the food, and the chef. He was engaging and funny.

I enjoy the spot but why do i have to request that my shrimp be cleaned every time. Ughhhh seeing that vein grosses me out and even with me requesting it, they still do a piss poor job. At these prices, shrimp needs to be super clean.

Tokyo is my favorite Japanese Steakhouse for sure!!! You get soooo much food and it’s delicious! Plus you basically get two meals out of it with all of the left overs.

The sushi here is excellent!!! Loved the Alaskan teriyaki roll! Wait time for the sushi was a little long though

Absolutely terrible service and food. I was incredibly disappointed and embarrassed throughout my entire meal. I am a college student and have limited funds, but since my friends and I were all trapped in our dorms for a few days due to the snow, a few of us decided to «treat ourselves» and go out somewhere nice. Going into the restaurant, we were starving and very excited. We sat with a very nice family that was celebrating a birthday, and we were chatting and having a nice time. I recently found out that gluten effects my stomach very poorly and many members of my family are effected by celiac disease. I have been trying to stay away from lots of gluten, but I can have it in small amounts in things like soy sauce.(I have to choose my battles). I asked the waitress off to the side if I could have the hibachi dinner, but instead of having rice and noodles, if I could just have double rice. This is a very common option back where I am from and is done for people who have allergies as well as food preferences. I began to explain to her that I can not eat large quantities of gluten and she rudely interrupted me by saying«no substitutions». I am not normally a picky person, and I try to avoid confrontation, but since I was paying a lot of money for the dinner and because it was a special night I tried to explain my situation again. She continued to say that there are no substitutions, but they can just take out the noodles, and I can pay for an extra side of rice. I agreed because I didn’t want to make a scene. The chef came up to the table, started cooking, and everyone was having a really nice time. Until the chef served everyone at the table but me. My friends and the others at the table were halfway done with their meals when a different waitress came up to me(clearly the problem customer) and told me since I have an allergy, they will be cooking it in the back, and that I will still have to pay the hibachi fee. I was incredibly upset by this lack of communication and was very frustrated that I was paying so much money to eat a meal by myself, after everyone at the table was already done eating. I struggled to tell this new waitress my situation, and that I am not celiac, but large amounts of gluten upsets my stomach and really messes with my system. I told her that I was ok with light amounts of soy sauce but I didn’t want to pay for a large plate of noodles that I couldn’t eat. Overall, it was a very stressful night, and I was near tears because I felt so excluded and like I was a problem client. I was not trying to be rude or cause any issues but not one staff member tried to take a second and listen to what I was saying. I was going to ask to speak with a manager, but I really just wanted to get out of there. The food was over priced, and not even worth the money. It was not flavorful and really just tasted like fast food. I will never be going to this place again, and I would not recommend it.

This was my third time eating at Tokyo. The service was great and I really enjoyed my food. I had the steak and shrimp week night special and shared a sushi roll with my hubby. I found the soup little on the bland side but the ginger salad dressing was delicious. The sushi we ordered was good, It had a lot of eel and avocado on it. The food was cooked well and the chef put on a good show. My steak was tender and the shrimp were tasty. The chef kept our sauce cups filled. The rice, noodles, and veggies were also good. Here they give you sauteed bananas for dessert. My tip would be to get your bananas on a separate plate so your food does not taste like bananas.

Food is very good. Always go away full. When i make a reservation I have always been seated within 5 – 10 minutes. Service has always been very good. Very on the spot and in good attitude.

I’m on the east coast for a little visiting family. This is a pretty neat little spot. Our waitress was very sweet, and our chef was also kind. Great service, and my food was also very good. My mother got steak, which was amazing(I tasted hers lol), and I got chicken which was delicious! We were sat quickly and overall I would recommend this place!

I had dinner at Tokyo with a group of people from work. They are able to accommodate large groups smoothly. The restaurant was mostly empty at 8pm on a weeknight. We ordered the scorpion and cherry blossom sushi rolls. Both were very good. The ginger salad is very good at this place. The hibachi ribeye steak I ordered was cooked nicely to a nice medium rare. My only complaint about the food was that the noodles that come with the entrée were cold and lacking in the flavor department. I expect more when the entrees are around $ 20 each for dinnertime. Service was decent.

Let me open with the caveat that I’m grading this restaurant relative to the other two Hibachi steakhouses in town, not absolute. If you like this kind of dining experience, you’ll like this place just fine. The dining area is always clean and well attended, but there’s never a big wait for a seat unless it’s weekend or friday rush. You seem to get more rice and noodles and less protein over the years but that’s probably just inflation speaking. The wait and cook staff is always helpful and friendly. I haven’t tried the sushi menu in a long time, but as I recall it was passable. Compared to the other two places in town, I feel you get more for your money and a table without as much waiting. It’s currently our go-to for Hibachi around here.

We have been coming here for years. We typically go on high day and holiday as we enjoy it but want it to be special. Today we went for a birthday. I found it odd that the soup came out so quickly, we had it prior to our drinks, and hadn’t ordered. I thought it may have been because we were the first party of the day. However after reading several reviews I see this is the norm. Not sure when this started. I tried the salad with the white sauce today as I had never had it that way, always going for ginger. Needless to say, I love it this way. Our cook was very friendly, some of the stuff is old hat, but I saw a lot of funny things I hadn’t seen before. We were all laughing, and having a good time. Our waiter was fairly prompt clearing dishes, refilling drinks etc. I had the ribeye and chicken, my ribeye was cooked perfectly, medium rare. I couldn’t be happier with it. My chicken I found a little on the dry side. I love the noodles they have, and the rice was very good. Great dinner, awesome time, very happy all around!

I loved this place. Went here last minute for a friend’s birthday and they sat us in 20 minutes! The restaurant itself is quite cool. It has a fish pond that goes from outside to inside and the décor is very nice. It feels a lot more open than other hibachi places in town. That said, the waiter was very rude, and short with us. I had a few questions about the food and this queen acted like the world was coming to an end because he had to go ask the kitchen. He suddenly became pleasant and attentive when I gave him a large tip after everything was over and done with, obviously. His service was attentive or he wouldn’t have gotten half that based on his attitude. Great veggie plate, and great prices though. The chef was very entertaining and bless his little soul for cooking for the vegetarian(me) first! Usually my food gets thrown on the same grill and cooked with the same tools as meat, which is not cool. I love ginger sauce and he was very generous with it. Refilled my dishes twice. Most places are a bit stingy with the sauce. Will definitely be going back!

It was Japanese food. That’s about it lol! Was your usual hibachi. Cooked right in front of you… made to order. Meat, rice, noodles, veggies, etc. Nothing special. Certainly not worth the money to me. I’ve had better.

I’m a big fan of Japanese style restaurants. I was invited for a birthday party, and really excited to try this place out for the first time. It was a very busy Saturday evening which we didn’t wait too long to be seated. First let me say once we arrived to our table the waiter came over to introduce himself with shades on and he had our servings of soup! Not one of us had a chance to look at the menu and here he comes with soup! Many of us didn’t get an opportunity to enjoy the soup while it was hot because we were trying to decide what to order. Once we all placed our orders we didn’t wait long for our chef to arrive which was great! The food was cooked to liking and very flavorful, and lots of it! I had to get a to go box! After majority of us were finished eating we continued to fellowship with one another until the clean up crew and it appeared the manager asked us to get up from the table because they have others waiting to eat! She stated we didn’t have to leave the restaurant but it would be nice for us to leave the table for others to enjoy what«we just enjoyed.» Although the food was good I believe customer service plays an important part in my experience. I don’t see myself returning!

Not sure what went left w/the sushi but something wasn’t right! I wanted to try something new, the Spicy Boston was selected. Had I received this as my order during my first visit, I wouldn’t of come back. 3 pieces in and I was over it. Not sure if it was the quality of the ingredients, the sushi chef, the prep of the roll or a combo of the three. Disappointed, I’d have to shake this experience off before even considering a return. I’ll say that the staff was different than before.

I’ve been on the hunt for a sushi spot since my favorite place in Winston sadly closed down. So I came here. I can’t speak for the hibachi only for the sushi. Very mediocre sushi I wasn’t impressed at all. Not by the look. Not by the taste. The miso was unlike any miso soup I’ve had. It was way salty & thick. Needless to say I left most of it. Now the ginger salad dressing, that was good. Would I go back? Nope. So I’ll continue my search for awesome sushi spot.

Been here twice with my parents. Once yesterday and once back in august of this year. Both times were delicious and timely. We usually get filet mignon and/or shrimp/scallops in a combo with the filet which was delicious both times for my husband and parents. This past time I got a veggie meal and it was great! TONS of veggies! I’m pregnant so this was a VERY good thing! Everything was delicious! My only complaint was this past time our waitress just seemed like she was miserable. Granted it was probably her first day back after the holiday, but she just seemed very upset with very little perk. But drinks were still timely, and everything was accurate!

Loved this place! Wen there last week for my birthday. The service was great and our chef was great and very entertaining. The part that was different and really good is the noodles. They were delicious! It was a nice touch. The rice was flavorful along with everything else that we had. The soup and the salad was pretty standard but our entrée was great and portion plentiful.

Silly place. I thought these types of Japanese steakhouses died in the 80’s. Apparently not — Tokyo was bustling and busy and people were lined up on a Friday night. I had a Groupon and decided to take my 4 year old. The show was fun if a) you’d never seen that shtick before, or b) you were under the age of 12. People at our table were genuinely entertained by our spatula juggling chef. The food, however, was bland. Really bland. We barely had 5 minutes to eat our main course when the chef dumped a plateful of grilled onions and zucchini over our food. That would be the«filler». It’s just too bad that he dumped it over our steak, chicken and rice. Oh well. My 4 year old thought it was pretty cool though. 2 stars.
