First let me start off by saying I love how they have a fish market on one side and a restaurant on the other. I went while it was raining cats and dogs outside and it was packed. I knew instantly this was going to be good, lol. I was right. The portions are large, you can get all the sauces you need (including lemon juice and vinegar), and the sweet tea is definitely sweet. The only downside is I didn’t see a broiled fish option. I may have just missed it though. Oh and though I didn’t get the banana pudding it looked delicious… the baked kind.

Food was ok. I would say the service was welcoming and speed of food was above average. Hushpuppies were good and jumbo shrimp… not really jumbo but tasty. Other reviewee was correct about seasoning.

Fucking loved it! I don’t know if I am allowed to use profanity in these reviews or not but this one deserves it. This white kid got CATFISH and a huge portion of it for a reasonable price. It made me do a happy dance and send picture messages of my food to my wife. I chose everything to be fried, but it doesn’t have to be here.
They also have a HOT SAUCE STATION to allow you multiple hot sauce choices for your meal. Great diverse group of folks eating here. I will be back when in Winston-​Salem again

Love this spot! I’m a native of WS and have seen the transformation and growth of this locally owned black business through the years. Forsyth has always been one of my favorite places to eat when I return home to visit. The owner is very nice and she remembers the «regulars“by name! The business is split into a fresh seafood market (great selection) on one side and a carryout or dine-​in restaurant on the other. The market will cut, clean and cook your fresh fish picks on the spot. Meanwhile, restaurant serves up hot filleted (whiting) or bone in (croaker) seafood. The restaurant was added to its menu since its renovation offering desserts, sides and beverages, which may be hit or miss depending on your tastebuds. However, you can’t go wrong with the fried fish!!! Don’t get it twisted-​this is what they do best!!! I always get the 5 piece fish dinner (3 bone, 2 fillet); you can add hush puppies or fries for a few bucks more if you choose; or just a fillet sandwich if I’m not too hungry. The dining area is always clean, well maintained and its a great spot to bring friends and/​or family. It’s usually a little busier on Fridays, as this is the unofficial day black folks eat fish!!! I strongly believe in supporting locally owned black businesses that provide great customer service, quality food and give back to the community! Forsyth has been a landmark business in East Winston well before all the downtown revitalization, renovation and gentrification! Don’t sleep. And stay thirsty my friends!!!

Had to write a review to set the record straight. If you are familiar with good fried or charbroiled seafood then you will appreciate this review. This place gives you A LOT of food. The prices could have been more affordable. For 1 fish sandwich combo and a dinner we paid 26.00. Kinda pricey for a quick in and out meal. We tried the fish fillets, fish sandwich, fried shrimp, fries, green beans and hush puppies. All the sides were great! Lots of flavor, very tasty. Now for the fried fish itself, was somewhat fishy and had NO SEASONING. You will even notice salt and pepper on the tables in this place. I like my food to be seasoned before it gets to me. It was very bland as mentioned by a previous Unilocaler. Someone In the line mentioned he never gets charbroiled because it takes wayyy too long. I’ve also had better tarter sauce. If you know good seafood, this place will disappoint.

Location was nice and clean but the wait was horribly slow. Called in an order and was told that it would take 15 – 20 mins to prepare. Actually took closer to 45 mins which isn’t really acceptable. Food was really average too, very greasy and didn’t seem like a good value. Scallops were ok but the breading was soggy and greasy… shrimp dinner was plentiful but tiny and again the breading was soggy… wings were big and meaty but not very flavorful. Not a fan.

Very clean, inviting and spacious interior… hospitable service… and the food is wonderful. Your choice of fresh fish and seafood, fried or broiled… absolutely delicious… I make sure to come here whenever I am visiting family.
There is also a market to purchase fresh fish and seafood to take home and prepare yourself.
Forsyth Seafood is off da chain good…

As one who relocated from the DMV where seafood is of the plenty, I’ve yearned for great home style seafood. Clearly you get it here… The renovations even made the restaurant component much better!!!

Why hasn’t anyone Unilocaled about this place? The best seafood, fresh and hot, and they have wings also. This is my second time in three days! Next time I will wear shades and a floppy hat :). The catfish is wonderful!
