Got the lunch special for $ 7.95. Meatloaf with gravy, mashed potatoes and broccoli. Nice sized plate, meatloaf was pretty good, with real mashed potatoes. Gravy was ok, had a wee bit of an odd under taste, but not bad. Broccoli was fresh, not overcooked, but needed a smidge of butter and seasoning. Service was good and the place is clean. Clearly a real local spot, which I totally love. Will have to come for breakfast sometime!

Stopped by for breakfast with the family of five. Very attentive staff that made us feel right at home. Breakfast is straight forward and expected with the exception of the huge pancakes! Homefries were homemade with tasty sausage. The only downside was the low grade coffee. On balance I recommend this location along Main Street, Winsted.

I’ve been in this small town for about 7 years now. Coming from a state below the Mason-Dixon Line. I’ve always driven my cackleberries and saying, «oh! We should stop by there!» Well, finally! I got my butt in there. I took my grandmother and I out for brunch back in February… Our birthdays are a day apart, and wanted to treat ourselves to some grandmother-granddaughter time. I was so blown away by the country-farmhouse décor on the inside. I wasn’t expect that at all! It made me feel I was back home, in the south. It was a nice touch of nostalgic for me. I love the quaint and laid-back atmosphere, seeing obvious locals come in, and chat with one another in separate booths, etc. The wife who is the face of the dining place is extremely friendly. Obviously we weren’t regulars, and obviously we hadn’t been in there before… Took us 45 minutes to look at the menu…(We are very indecisive, haha). The wife couldn’t have been more friendlier, as she made her rounds from table to table. Refilling tea, coffee and water in a timely manner. Sitting back and watching customers demeanor before they became restless, but allowing them to have space to talk with friends and family. The food: I got a breakfast bagel. It was really good! Reminded me of the sandwich I’d get at this Jewish deli in NJ. I got an order of home-fries… Now, I’ve heard reviews about these, and how they’re the BEST home-fries anyone has ever tasted. I’m hoping it was just an «off» day back in the kitchen… My fries came out drenched in grease, lacking flavor, and just too gross to eat. Luckily, I had filled up on hot tea, and my breakfast sandwich to be satisfied enough with my meal. I’m willing to go back and try this small, hole-in-the-wall place for breakfast, and even dinner now!(Recently extended their hours and menu). The quaint charm, and one-person staff is what really won me over with this place. It’s all about the details, and they’ve done it for me.

Just ate lunch at cackleberries on our way from Hartford to Great Barrington. We had a surprisingly good meal. Food cooked fresh to order — club sandwich and pastrami sandwich were both better than expected. The service was very friendly and clearly lots of locals eat there. Awesome apple pie! Right on the middle of apple season, the chef had picked the apples himself, you can’t beat that! Very unassuming from the outside but I don’t think you will be disappointed by the food — basic but good

Service was great… food came out hot and fast. Coffee was horrible. Tasted weak and burnt despite being poured from a full pot. The omelettes were okay… English muffins were topped with fake butter spread. Homefries had an off flavor… maybe too much poor quality paprika.

Without peer, the best breakfast joint in Northwestern Connecticut. Absolutely delicious, from the eggs to the fresh-baked delights. Coffee… can’t get enough of it. Mary Beth and Jim love their customers, and it shows.

This place is an absolute delight. The food is fresh, cooked just the way you like it, served quickly, and delivered with a smile. Your coffee cup never gets below half-full before the refill appears. It was refreshing to FINALLY discover a breakfast place where you don’t have to suffer through inconsistent food or mean waitstaff. Check this place out!
