While driving down from Minneapolis to La Crosse, my friend and I stopped in for a bite at the Hyvee along Hwy 61 in Winona. My friend was a bit skeptical, but as for me, I figured I’d just pick up something to snack on. Immediately upon walking in the door, we found the salad bar and looked no further. It was around $ 7 for all you can eat. They had everything for a good salad or fruit salad, plus three kinds of soup and several options for desserts. I was so satisfied and impressed that I returned two days later. I think I’ll make this my go-to food stop for when I make this trip again in the future. This place is a hidden gem — I walked in expecting a standard grocery store, and walked out stuffed and happy.

Bought a cake for my wife and I for our anniversary and Wow! It looks amazing as if it came from a high end bakery. Well beyond what I expected from a grocery store. At this point haven’t eaten it yet so can’t comment on taste. But based on looks would definitely order again.

I am a Californian, I am used to eating a lot of vegetables and fruit. I rarely eat potato chips and my processed-food snacks are usually limited to beef jerky. As such, the Midwestern diet can do a number on my digestive tract. After a few days of eating burgers, hot wings, potato chips and bad pizza you start to feel a little bit less than healthy. HyVee comes to the rescue. $ 4.50 all-you can eat salad bar? Four more bucks for anything out of their hot-case? Eating two plates of salad was a very nice change of pace and made me feel a little bit more normal. The items out of the hot case taste good, but are dry.
