A friend of mine and I stopped here for breakfast quite by accident, as we were out of towners and this was showing as the closest place for breakfast on our GPS. What a great surprise! We apparently got there just in time as the place filled up quickly so is obviously a popular spot. Great home-style cooking and 5 stars for the blueberry pancakes! My friend commented on the good grits too. Great service — thanks Alicia!

I’m here at Windsor Farms Restaurant. Can’t comment on the food yet. Came here for breakfast. BREAKFAST. Nothing complicated. Been here 45 minutes and no food. Took 25 minutes just to get a cup of coffee and a lemonade. No excuse for such crappy service. Ok, we stayed 55 minutes and we just left. Asked the waitress how much longer and she said«about 15 minutes». We ordered scrambled eggs, grits, fried whiting. It should only have taken«about 15 minutes» for us to get our food to begin with. I have never spent an hour waiting for dinner, and there’s just no excuse to wait an hour for breakfast. And to top it all off, the coffee sucked.

We stopped here, trying to find a decent place to eat, zipping down I-91 to Hartford. We settled into the retro seats and the local atmosphere. We were greeted by one of the men and knew we had picked the right place. Lost of breakfast choices with some interesting combinations. Grits and biscuits are a staple here. I ordered two scrambled and ham, my wife ordered French toast with strawberries and whipped cream. Our waitress was very friendly. The food came within 15 minutes, which was good considering the placed was packed. The gentlemen who seated us delivered the food with some joking about being slow(he was carrying a lot of stuff!). The food was fine and the coffee good and hot. The total came to $ 12.29, which is ridiculously low. Would recommened if you want good food and super low prices and friendly service. What’s not to love?

Can’t believe I had never been here before, the grits weren’t all watered down an bland. In my book that deserves an A+. The waitress had a problem remember one coffee and one cranberry juice. We had to ask for the hot tea. It took about 15 minutes for the food to arrive, but that’s par for the course on a Saturday morning. Thank goodness the food was good, especially the grit. May treat the Grands one day.

First visit today based on the review from Unilocal. We were not disappointed! Loved the old diner feel. Leon our waiter made us feel welcomed, entertained and happy to be there, he made us feel like we had been patrons of this restaurant for years. He pointed out the old picture on the wall and said that the picture had a thousand stories and how much he wished the walls could talk! We wished they could too. We imagined the stories left behind. He made our meal so enjoyable. The omelets were great and the grits to were authentic. The biscuits were grilled and so delicious. We will be back.

Two stars only for the waitress who was very professional and prompt. The food was less than basic.

A really nice unexpected breakfast experience here. The old diner style décor makes it charming and retro. There aren’t many places like that anymore. There was a good size crowd here at 9 am on a weekday but there is no wait. My breakfast pancakes were good! And the side of grits was quite special and I don’t normally even like grits! Come here for a retro décor and a good breakfast. The prices are reasonable too. It’s set in a shopping plaza at the Windsor Shops right off the highway I-91.

Best breakfast around! Food is amazing every time without fail! Don’t let the outdated décor scare you away. Only downfall is cash only. They don’t accept credit or debit cards.

I went to breakfast here yesterday. First off, the coffee was good. I had hash and two eggs with home fries and my wife had bacon and two eggs and a blueberry pancake plus green tea. The food was good and the bill was 16 dollars. Excellent experience, I’ll be back!

This is not Haute Cuisine but above average diner fare that takes place in an old Friendly’s layout in a strip mall. Now there is some history right there as it was a very old Friendly’s indeed. I stopped by for lunch and ordered a cup of Seafood Gumbo and a burger, the gumbo was bulls-eye dead on center, rich and full of New Orleans style flavor. At first, I was stunned, I wasn’t expecting anything like that but it didn’t take me long to settle down and dig in to very enjoyable lunch. I ordered the hand formed burger cooked medium with a side of coleslaw, it was a perfect medium and the slaw had a nice pleasant spice note to round out the entire meal. The young lady waiting on me was as good a waitress as I have had, checking on me several times to make sure things were satisfactory and whether I wanted any thing else. There is definitely talent in that there kitchen and I am excited to revisit in the future to discover more of that talent on display. Service food experience was great, very nicely done Windsor Farms.

I’ve eaten here for years so I might be biased. This is the great place for breakfast with huge omelettes, home fries and incredible grits. It’s kinda like a southern style breakfast spot with great food. The egg sandwiches are the best as they will cook the egg to your liking and then add the bacon, sausage etc. The sandwich rolls are very fresh and I like my egg over medium which soaks into the roll perfectly. The staff is attentive but when it gets real busy you’ll have to wait a little bit for service. It’s worth it for the food though. The coffee is light but good. Phil the owner/cook is always available and a real good guy.

We stumbled upon this restaurant when we ventured off of 95 S in search of brunch, and I am so glad that we did. Great service, great«real» food, and a lovely family style atmosphere. I noticed that there were many regulars whom the staff new by name. Cash only, but worth a trip to the ATM.

We came here on recommendation from one of my coworkers and we were not disappointed at all! The portions were very generous and the free hot chocolate with my order, or coffee with our other orders was also a nice little added bonus. Compared to other diners I’ve been to I felt like the food here was more then reasonably priced. You definitely seemed to get more ‘bang for your buck’ here The waiters/waitress provided prompt and courteous service and did not seem at all put off when you waived them down to ask for something. I’m sure we can all relate to bad service we have had in the past when your server looks or even acts clearly annoyed when you ask them for something. However, that was certainly not the case here at all. They checked on all their guests periodically throughout the meal andit seemed like they really valued and appreciated their customer’s business and overall dining experience here. The diner itself was very clean and organized. After all who wants to eat somewhere where there is food still left on the tables or floors from where other guests had eaten? The waitstaff here were very diligent about maintaining a clean dining atmosphere at all times. They were quick to sweep up any crumbs or food scraps after other guests left, the counters and tables were constantly being wiped down and disinfected and the bathroom also looked like it was attended to on a pretty regular basis. The only minor drawback was that we were seated kind of close to the front door and every time it opened a blast of artic winter air came through. Yet for winter in January what else would you really expect? Besides, the place was so packed when we went in that was the only available table at the time. So I guess that just goes to show how popular this place really is, especially on the weekends.

Stopped in for brunch, service was very slow. Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Bathroom was gross. Other patrons were very rude.

This place is in a small town of Windsor CT. All egg Omelets come with Grits on the side of the Plate. Tea Coffee and Hot Coca are free with any order and the Short Stacks of Pancakes are HUGE! The Best part of this place is not only are the Staff friendly, funny, and has cute women but no matter what time of day this place is Open they serve Breakfast ALLDAY! I believe this place is a 24⁄7 place as well don’t quote me but this place is a fantastic place to be for dining if your in the Windsor area.

What a great little place! I was in the area for work, and part of me hopes I messed up so I’ll have to go back to the area, ha. It was a late Thursday morning, I was looking for a snack, and it seemed better than grabbing something from the grocery store or Popeye’s. Boy was I right. The food was great, and while the décor was older, everything seemed clean. The staff was also really nice, and the food came out quick and hot. The eggs were good, the bacon was good(though I might opt for the more expensive option next time), and the home fries were some of the best I’ve had in a very long time.

Stopped at this place for lunch today. Saw the great reviews on here. I like they have a diner feel, staff was very friendly and my meal was perfect. I went with a chicken salad melt with fries and a coke. Great experience and will definitely return. Next time will try the ice cream which also looked great. HEADSUP, they do not accept plastic here, so bring cash with you as there is no ATM in the restaurant. They do have a bank in the plaza, which is a few buildings down. The fact that they don’t take debits would not have tarnished the ratings anyways, just wanted to let you know. DEFF, CHECKTHISPLACEOUT

Fantastic service and the food was great and comforting, like sitting in someone’s kitchen. Everything is incredibly reasonably priced and the place is super clean. Definitely coming back!

Go back into your memory banks and picture the very first Friendly’s you can ever remember. Now imagine that place ten years earlier than that, except its brand spanking new. That’s what it felt like walking into Windsor Farms. A very cool retro kind of a place in that strip mall where Rt 159 hits Cottage Grove, in the shadow of I-291. It’s set up a lot like Shady Glen, with booths on one side, counter stools on the other with open work stations and ice cream bins in the center. They have a pretty ambitious menu– chock full of sandwiches, burgers, salads, meal specials, breakfast(served all day !), and ice cream. I dropped in for breakfast on a Friday at 8:00. I was the third customer in the store, then one guy left and 2 more came in, so there were never more than 4 of us there at the same time. I ordered a Western sandwich, side of grits, and a coffee. Cost me a little more than $ 7. The sandwich was served piping hot with sautéed peppers and onions atop one slice of ham all tucked inside a roll. Truth be told, although it was good, it was on the small side. Now on to the grits(which I have had maybe 5 times in my life). They were terrific, a creamy comfort food with a hint of butter. I went to the honey squeeze bottle and added just a little for sweetness. Man oh man was that good. The server was sweet as could be, and seemed to know the other customers. Could she have been a little more attentive to my empty coffee cup? Well, she was having such a good time talking and laughing with the regulars, I’ll give her a pass. She is a sweet soul, but between you and me, she should pay equal attention to those just passing through for a quick breakfast. It was an enjoyable breakfast — good food, and a nice old-time atmosphere. A must if you want breakfast any time of the day. A must if you crave grits.
