Great shop, great atmosphere, staff were friendly. We had lunch here mid week and for the price, the food was below par on what we have experienced so far throughout New York State. Drinks were well below par, at $ 6 for a espresso milkshake I wanted something a little more. The automatic 20% gratuity on the bill for 5 people was the finishing touch especially considering we were the only ones in the restaurant, still don’t understand the tipping philosophy here in the states.

Give this little gem of a spot eight stars out of five. Diane, a waitress there, is the world’s loveliest woman and treated us so well! We really appreciated her. Eggs on point, coffee on point, cats on point. country store with all the homemade local items, on point. Truly, a great environment and homey vibe. Ended up going for both breakfast one day and lunch another, both were a win!

This place is great! Nice cozy and clean atmosphere. Great gift and toy shop in back and store made sauces and baked goods up front that excellent. Nice people, great menu, and amazing farm fresh eggs. Can’t wait to get back again.

Such a cozy restaurant and country store. This is my second time back and it’s the perfect brunch spot. The service is great and the coffee is served in cute mugs with the Catskill Country Store name. After placing my order, I noticed their beautiful cat Sammy was walking around the store and he is so friendly. He came right up to me and even sat in my lap! Such a cute place.

Pretty interesting spot. One side of the store has all these vintage, local food and other trinkets and the other side is a sit down diner type feel. Came for brunch and ordered dirty nachos and pancakes. Both were pretty good and enough to feed a family of 4. Service was friendly as well

One of the best breakfasts and lunch in town, extensive menu, burgers, omelettes, quiche. South Windham Burger is recommended. Fun store to explore while waiting for food to arrive, great selection of local jams, maple syrup etc. They have a really nice garden in the back with a petting zoo, fun for the kids to explore. Staff is very friendly and will make you feel welcome and comfortable.

This is a cozy and great spot for good breakast and lunch items. They have delicious milk shakes and home made food! As a bonus there are many great items for sale on the ‘store’ side of the restaurant. This is one of my favorite spots but there are cats that roam the place while you are eating. I personally do not like when animals are rubbing against me or hoping up on chairs trying to get some food especially when I do not know the pets or where they have been.

Excellent store and restaurant. Super friendly staff and half a dozen sampling tables to try their doughnuts, pumpkin butter, honey mustard, spicy dips and salsas. Also a kids toy section in the back and an outdoors labyrinth for the little ones.

Service was good, a local version of Cracker Barrel but with better homemade preserved foods for sale. Healthy non GMO ingredients. There is a cat on the premises that roams around inside and outside the place, so we beware if you are allergic. Overall, a pleasant local option for food.

After a long hike we found this place on Unilocal with great reviews and knew we had to try it. Instantly felt like a better cracker barrel when we walked in because of the awesome store you walk into. Then we realized how much better than a cracker barrel it is. The staff was extremely friendly and everything was so fresh. The coffee, the eggs, pancakes, jelly and syrup were incredibly fresh and made there. The rye toast, it was a marbalized rye and came out warm and baked to perfection. So good. Our meals were amazing and even got to try the apple cider donuts, wow. Will definitely be back here again, and will never be able to look at a cracker barrel again.

An absolutely fantastic meal within a true Catskill restaurant. The ambience of kitsch and«home grown county» combine in a wonderful way to give the patron a real Upstate NY experience. The country store with its little whimsical trinkets and delicious jams(do try some — there’s plenty of free tastings!) really added to the whole«experience» of the meal and I strongly recommend walking first through the shop, then grabbing a table for you and your guests. Wonderful eatings!

The food was good, especially the farm fresh eggs on my omelette, which could have used more seasoning — it had tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, not something I normally indulge in, and was a bit on the bland side. The raw fries were very crispy and greasy on the outside, and seemed overcooked. Happy that they offer almond and soy milk, wish there were more dairy free options/substitutes. My husband had a veggie burger which was a pretty standard veggie burger… Nothing exemplary but not bad either. He also ordered a side of home fries for us to share, which I think were the best part of the meal, with sautéed peppers and onions mixed with the potatoes. Sadly, our waitress started out friendly and then seemed to forget about us to the point of being rude. First, I had to wave to get her attention(something I rarely do at a restaurant, but I had no alternative as our meal was well underway) to ask for the forgotten home fries and for a coffee refill — my mug was completely empty. It was not as if they were very busy at all, and it seemed like the staff was more self occupied than anything else. Barely got an apology for the forgotten potatoes and coffee refill… Just«I don’t know why she didn’t put it up» was the response as she checked her notepad. That would have been let go, but then, she never checked back to see if we needed anything else, and later, literally dropped the check in the middle of our table AS she was talking to another table. Simply rude and unprofessional. The saving grace of this establishment is the great store with selection of eclectic goods, and the back room with all kinds of toys that our one year old liked exploring. The cashier was also very friendly and helpful. Outside they have a play area for kids, which is great, including chickens, pigs, and a duck that we saw. It could be totally awesome if the food and service measured up to the imagination of the outside play area. One upsetting thing: the duck did not seem to have its own little pond to swim in as it was in the chicken coop. Ducks NEED water otherwise their bodies put too much weight on their feet, causing strain. We learned this at a visit to the Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary. We hope that they are taking good care of it and that perhaps we missed the needed duck pond. Overall, I give them 3.5 stars… with service at 2 stars. We may visit again and hope not to get the same server! Lots of potential here.

The Country Store is a worthy incarnation of the kind of down home eatery that once dotted the Catskills — offering farm fresh food, home made sweets and plenty of souvenirs for the weary traveler. Survivors of a hurricane that once devastated this town with flood waters(see picture), the intrepid owners(Drew and Natasha) have made the most of that disaster by rebuilding bigger and better than ever. The food and baked goods are fresh, home made, honest and just plain good(owing in part to Natasha’s CIA training and Penn farm country roots). The breakfasts are probably the best around as are their specialty foods(e.g. breads, jams, condiments, etc. — I especially like the jalapeño, cheddar & corn bread). The produce is locally sourced in season and the eggs are free range with yummy, psychedelic orange yolks. But please be patient with service and put your cell phone(and attitude) away — think zen and analog sensibilities — and you start to get the vibe here, which brings me to my rant. Windham and many surrounding Greene County towns have evolved into the sort of touristy, cutesy, pricey and fashionable places that I abhor. Developers/speculators have taken a page from the Woodstock playbook and spawned, in the name of modernity and commerce, a Hampton-esque invasion of this place by anyone with a smart phone. Windham once was a truly quaint, bucolic, unspoiled, unique and authentic New York State experience, reserved mostly for those«in the know.» Not anymore. I am a traditionalist and my family has owned a second home on the mountaintop since 1961 — so I have a sense of perspective and I suppose, an axe to grind. We came to the region back then to leave the glitz and the City crowds behind, breathe the simple and unspoiled mountain air and recreate in the quietude of mountains, streams and lakes that are at the heart of the Catskill Park. But in the last 10 – 15 years, urged on by a clarion call from the NY Times, the downstate crowds have swamped the region and from my perspective, dulled some of its shine, and left their detritus behind. I don’t mind sharing a rural experience with a few thousand folks — its just not nearly as much fun when you have to compete for limited resources with, say, millions — many of whom bring attitudes that just don’t fit this place. So much for authenticity, secret hideaways, tradition, nostalgia and my rant!

This place is sort of interesting. The staff are nice but I wouldn’t say very friendly. Not unfriendly just not particularly warm or interested. The tchotchkes and such are cute and they have lots of candy bins. The fudge is really great. We did have lunch. They have lots of options which is nice. Everything was fine. Good. It did smell like burnt oil which was sort of yucky but not such a big deal. We will be back next time we are in Windham.

This place is pretty sweet. We were here on a Saturday for lunch, and we just missed the crowd. Seriously, there was a 40 minute wait by the time we were finished. The country store attached is adorable, and it is very nice that there are free samples of salsa, jam, pretzels and crackers. I would say however, that about 40% of the store merchandise might be better replaced with more seating area. There’s a whole toy room? I don’t know it just seems to me that the space might be better served by additional tables, since the restaurant is so popular. I had the cheese fries, which were very good, the cheese had just the right amount of spice on them. I also had the Monte Cristo french toast, which is served with a REAL maple syrup at each table(Aunt Jemima, no offense but I hate you) The food took a long time to come, but our server was very friendly. The other waitress didn’t seem to want any part of helping us, but whatevs. If you’re in the area, and looking for a good hangover cure breakfast for little money, this is your spot.

I was expecting the nice and friendly people outside of NYC and was not finding that here. We were on our way to our 5mile hike so came here to get sandwiches to go. The waiter literally slammed the menus in front of us and was in general disgruntled by the entire process. Nashe was nice too all other patrons dining in. Wonder why We had the chicken salad wrap. It was a good option for the hike. It came with chips and salsa. The chips unfortunately was not crispy anymore by the time we got to the top of our hike. The salsa was the highlight — tangy and spicy. An average meal with a nasty attitude from the server don’t really motivate me to come back.

Since I was a little kid this was my favorite place to visit in the Catskills! This family owned business is loaded with country charm, everything about it makes you feel warm and cozy. Animal lovers and foodies alike will fall in love with this store. The owner and her husband have been running this little store for many years and they do a fantastic job. When you enter you will see an arrangement of novelty sweets, fudge and all kinds of homemade jams and spreads to take home. You can also find cute country knickknacks to buy as souvenirs, just be aware that everything here is a bit pricy. I would definitely recommend coming here for a family breakfast, you can sit on the beautiful patio which has a great Windham mountain view. The food can be hit or miss, some things they do extremely well while other things on the menu seem to be done in a rush. I’d say go for any type of pancakes or a nice burger if you come for lunch. The menu is pretty huge and the names of the items are creative and fun but I would say to stick with something safe especially when it gets busy on Saturdays and Sundays. I really hope that this little place continues to do well because it is deserves all kinds of praise. I love it here and it brings back so many good memories from my childhood. If you visit only once then you can tell how much work goes into a business like this. Be sure to go visit the chickens, bunnies, ponies and potbelly pig. The owners are so kind and they let anyone go and view the animals so make sure you go say hello!
