Wonderful staff! Dr. Deering is incredibly patient, understanding and spent all the time I needed, walking me through every step he was going to take. I felt very safe and comfortable and well taken care of. I highly recommend Winchester Optical.

Brought my 8-​year-​old daughter here because she was complaining about her vision. The staff are exceptionally friendly. Made both me and my daughter feel comfortable. The doctor made the eye exam fun (!) for my daughter and informative for me. I really liked the fact that we weren’t rushed through the whole thing and that the doctor took the time to make sure that my daughter was comfortable and that she and I knew what was going on. I highly recommend this place.

I moved from Winchester and went to our new local optical office thinking that they were all pretty much the same. I was wrong. I returned to Winchester Optical the next year and have been going to them since, which is over 20 years. Dr. Deering and John Deering are professional, smart, and take the time to make sure you have the best and most modern care and products possible. They both listened to my concerns and addressed them in a way which I understood and appreciated. I’d been having a specific problem which they were able to correct and my life has literally changed for the better. The cost of their contact lenses is reasonable and competitive with online prices. The front desk staff is polite, smart, and professional as well. I cannot recommend Winchester Optical highly enough.

My husband and I have found Dr. Joseph Deering, and the entire staff at Winchester Optical to be tremendously positive, professional, and helpful. We moved to Winchester about four years ago, and were recommended to this practice by our cousin who is in optician. He was 100% correct, the office is staffed and run beautifully. The equipment is modern and up-​to-​date, Dr. Deering takes his time and really knows his stuff. We can’t recommend Winchester Optical highly enough for professional caring, state-​of-​the-​art eye care!

Wow! I needed to get an eye exam and new contact lenses so I called Winchester Optical for an appointment. They are down the street from me and a neighbor had said good things so I thought I’d try them.
The woman who answered the phone was informative and helpful. She was able to get me an appointment the next day. In the past my eye exams have seemed uneventful. Someone would spend 30 minutes with me, if that, and off i’d go with a new prescription. At Winchester Optical i think i had my first real eye exam. The Dr., who was kind, funny and informative, spent about 45 minutes to an hour with me. He had cutting edge equipment and took time to really find out about the health of my eyes while explaining what he was doing.
Next up was the contact fitting. There were more machines and pictures of my eyes to make certain they were giving me the right fit. It took another 45 minutes. I had my 5 year old with me and she even enjoyed the experience. The staff couldn’t be friendlier.
Instead of just having me order my year supply on the spot they gave me a weeks worth of dailies to try and scheduled me a follow up to check how the fit and Prescription worked before having me place an order. I went back for my follow up yesterday. He spent another 30+ minutes with me to make sure everything was sitting well and helped me place the order. As long as I live in MA I will never go anywhere else. If you are looking for the best eye doctor and contact fit this is your place. ***Reasonably priced as well which is a bonus!

I used to work in Boston so my eye Dr resides there. Recently I’ve been looking to transfer to someone a little closer to home. A friend recommended this place to me and said she had been going for years.
I had an excellent experience. It’s a father-​son team and they are very knowledgeable and thorough. Some of the tests performed have never been done on my eyes before w/​my previous doctor. They discovered I was actually in the wrong size contacts. The cost for the appt was much higher than what I was used to paying (you pay for the eye-​exam AND the contact fitting). But all in all I felt it was worth it. I also like supporting smaller family run businesses.

I used Winchester Optical exclusively for more than 23 years and was completely satisfied. Apparently they have changed their policies.
When I bought an expensive set of frames and again when I went in to have them repaired I was assured they were guaranteed and it would not cost me anything to repair them. There was no charge when I went to pick up the repaired frames — but a month later they sent a bill for more than $ 100. Their answer: they are sorry I misunderstood their policy.
With deep regret: looking for a new optometrist. Really enjoyed doing business with them. In particular, Bob was always helpful.

I really wanted to like Winchester Optical as I live in the town and like to support local business. However, they just make things too complicated and expensive. Most importantly, they cannot write prescriptions for contacts, so you are forced to buy through them at twice the cost of some other places such as 800-​contacts. This isn’t the case with the other small, locally owned optical places I’ve been in Mass. Second, I told them I had been using a certain brand family (Acuvue) for 10 years with no problem yet they really pushed two other kinds that’s weren’t as comfortable resulting in two additional visits and I finally settled on a less comfortable brand so I didn’t have to take time off work again. The doctors are very friendly and knowledgeable, but I would choose a place where they can write prescriptions (basically any other place around).

I have been going to Winchester Optical for 3 or 4 years now for my glasses and contacts. The staff is very friendly and always willing to go out of their way to help with whatever I need. When I first went, I was having a lot of problems with my contacts at the time, and John Deering was fantastic– he figured out exactly what was going on, and suggested an alternative brand which has been great for me. The place is family-​run and is very welcoming, with a knowledgeable staff. I have recommended them to friends and family, and think very highly of this place.

I used to go here for my glasses/​contacts for about 10 years. I only had to switch to another practice because I moved back to Boston, and it was hard to get to Winchester. I always found the staff friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of frames, and I always like to support family run businesses. I would recommend their services highly!!!

Years ago — so maybe this ain’t the best «first review» to have — they were horrible.
I got my first contacts through these people. What a disaster. I almost don’t want to talk about it.
My eyes are pretty bad. Years ago when «oxygen-​permiable» contacts were new — they set me up with some. They sucked. I had to go back continually to get adjustments, new perscriptions. Just horrendous. I’m not THAT blind and they were just clueless.
Maybe it’s better now. Technology has made this field idiot-​proof. And they certainly have their share of idiots there.
