Stayed here last night after we broke down. They accept dogs & do not charge extra fees for them.(A major plus for many of us). The staff we encountered both in the evening and the next day were friendly. The room WAS a slight let down since there was no fridge, microwave or hairdryer but it was clean and in a SUPER convenient location(right off exit 313? On I81) and was most likely a fantastic deal for our money so, no complaints here really. Right by the highway, across the street from shopping and restaurants, and an excellent price! Recommended!

I stopped here because it was getting dark and the road conditions were terrible because of the ice and sleet. I don’t like driving at night and in circumstances like those, I definitely didn’t want to risk it. So, needing a place that accepted pets, and something fast, I took an exit that advertised a Red Roof Inn. The ONE good thing I can say about them is that they don’t charge a pet fee. However, if you add up everything else they charge for or don’t have, then it is better going some place else with nicer rooms and amenities and paying a pet fee. The rooms are in need of serious upgrading and have a weird smell. When I walked in, I didn’t want to touch anything until I attacked it with my lysol wipes. I mean, for the most part, the room was«clean» but… I don’t know how to explain it, it just had a funky, dirty feel to it. It didn’t help that there were cracks in the tub, some weird deep scratches on the sink counter, and that everything just looked so raggedy. My thought was, this room could use a deep, thorough cleaning. I had been travelling for a few days and had some drinks with me and when I looked for the fridge to put my waters and juice in I noticed there was BIG, obvious empty spot where it should be, but it wasn’t. When I asked the lady at the front desk, she told me they(fridge and microwaves) did not come in the standard rooms and were only in the«deluxe» room and that it was a $ 5 fee to upgrade. -.- Wow. See? $ 5 more to get what comes standard in the majority of other motels. I told her never mind. It was cold enough outside to leave them in the car and use that as my fridge for the night. She did tell me I could use the microwave in the«dining» area if I had anything I needed to be heated up. I didn’t feel like venturing out back in the icy rain so I didn’t bother. I just couldn’t believe they didn’t have them in the room. The funny thing, the difference between the so-called deluxe room and the standard, besides the price, is the microwave and fridge. They don’t charge for wifi, and it’s a good, strong signal, so that’s a plus if that is important to anyone. The shower has steaming hot water, which felt so good after being out all day on a cold, damp day, and the hot water lasts a long time. Besides, those two good points, the breakfast is crappy. The choice was luke-warm(and that’s me being kind) waffles, toast(I think), the tiniest muffins on the planet, cereal, tiny apples, and coffee. I filled up on muffins, the waffles were gross I couldn’t get past the first bite, but the muffins were pretty good. I ate four of them lol. The walls of the room are thin, I could hear the people next to me talking, coughing, the baby crying, all that good stuff. I actually liked that the heater/ac unit was a bit loud because it drowned them out. Speaking of, they don’t leave the heaters on like other places, so when I walked in the room was freezing, and it took about two to three hours before it actually warmed up. It would be nice if they thought about their guests. Sure, they can’t predict if they will fill up the rooms, but they should leave some on in a block of random rooms just in case, and once those are occupied, turn on more in another set of rooms. That way on cold, miserable days, guests are entering a warm welcoming room. We’d probably ignore some of the unsightly aspects if we had a toasty room to welcome us. On the bright side, for some, there are three gas stations across from it, for those who want to fill up before starting out, and an iHop down the street. Also, one of the other guest and I got to talking as we scraped ice off our cars, and she told me that Red Roof charges $ 10 an hour, if anyone wants to stay passed the check out time of 11. One would think in inclement weather they would modify that policy just a wee bit, but no. I asked and I was told the latest, as if she was being SO nice in allowing this, she could let me stat was until 12. After that, it’s the lovely $ 10/hr. See? Other places may charge a pet fee, yet microwaves, refrigerators, irons, ironing boards, late check out, etc. are all part of the price of the stay. At Red Roof all that is extra. I think from now on I rather pay a $ 10 pet fee and have some amenities, then save $ 10 and have nothing but the basics.

This hotel is sub-par. The rooms are dirty, and they smell. I had a three day reservation, but decided to drive by and see if I could walk into a room being cleaned by the staff. It wasn’t that the bed was unmade, it was that the place was smelly… went to the next room, and again, I had to hold my nose… smokey, musty and dirty. And the furniture? You don’t want to sit on it… looks like rejects from the Salvation Army. I have found that some Red Roofs are great, and some are like this one– they are all individually owned, and it is the OWNER who decides what the place is like… I unhappily had to pay a $ 100 cancellation fee, even though I called at 2PM the day of my reservation. Once again, it’s up to the franchise owner, I suppose. However, NOTHING would have convinced me to stay at this dump. We hurried out of there, and decided to stay with HOLIDAYINNWINCHESTERSE. Do yourself a favor, check out the 10+ other hotels within a mile or 2 mile radius of this Red Roof… if you care about quality and cleanliness, you will be doing yourself a great big favor!

My room had a t.v. that was so dim you couldn’t see it with the lights on. The Ron was dirty. No coffee pot. Not American owned.

The workers were friendly and pleasant. The room was clean. The bathroom was clean. Extra towels, shampoo and bars of soap were provided. The room even had a hairdryer. The internet is not password protected and it is by fat the fastest internet I’ve gotten at a Red Roof Inn, here are the results( ). One thing to note is that this Inn has TONS of big dogs. Just driving through the parking lot, we saw at least 10 – 15 large dogs. There was a dog show that weekend. The spring bed was alright. Definitely not the best bed I’ve slept in. The other Red Roof Inns had better beds. If they were spring beds, couldn’t feel the springs at all. Could feel the springs over here. They have a decent sized area for you to eat the continental breakfast. They use Styrofoam bowls and plates. They had muffins, bagels, cereal, oatmeal, apples, orange and apple juice, hot water, coffee, and waffles. It’s nothing fancy, just good enough to fill up your stomach before going on a hike =P

While traveling I-81, we found this to be a very cost effective stay. Room was clean and quiet. Bed comfortable. Large room with large desk for working stay too. A great value at 60% of other equally nice lodging.
