The quality of the cookies deserves five stars. Unfortunately the service at the Cookie Jar deserves less than two stars. We have only visited the Cookie Jar twice and have been served(a year apart) by the same(and only) person. First of all, she is the slowest person we’ve ever encountered when it comes to getting what you want from the case. Next, she seems to not understand how the register works and takes forever to ring up items and then bag them. It seriously takes her 10 – 15 minutes to ring up your items. She gets easily confused and doesn’t know how to correct mistakes she’s made at the register when it comes to financial errors(including making change). When she is working, even if you’re the only one in there, you will not get out faster than 15 minutes. It’s just rediculous. We only got 4 cookies, and we were in there for 15 minutes. We may go back to the Cookie Jar(although my husband says absolutely not), but if we see her working, we will immediately turn around and not make a purchase.

Long before cupcake trailers and the cake ball frenzy in Austin; there was The Cookie Jar just off the square in Wimberley. I only know this because I planned to visit in 2007 but ended up concentrating on that whole marriage/baby business. Several days ago I started looking back at those places I meant to go to and The Cookie Jar stuck out possibly pleasing my sweet tooth just after lunch on the ranch. I made a tentative call this morning to make sure they were open and what sweets they might have. The list she rattled off nearly made me salivate; and it gets better from here. I threw little Rooster in the car and drove the 13 miles over to Wimberley. We entered gazing upon the chefs case with assorted cookies, cake slices, and pecan sandies the size of a small croissant. I selected a couple of oatmeal based cookies which proved decadent. Equally heavenly was the walnut and chocolate«bar». Little Rooster and I sat outside in the shade and nearly ate the entire lot only saving a little bit for the ride home. The rest of the store is part baking accessories and vintage cookie jar sales. I noticed several McCoy cookie jars that are probably worth up to a $ 100 each. I have a friend who actually put his kids(4) thru Harvard and Yale by selling off his cookie jar collections one piece at a time. I was glad to see The Cookie Jar was still holding its own in a tough market like Wimberley. A late yet amazing discovery for my Unilocal friends to seek out when your in the neighborhood!
