I stopped by the gallery on a tour. Very refreshing to see a museum promoting all rights and sharing history of the LGBT movement. Saw the exhibit on queer as folk and rotating on couples together 20+ years as well as Miami ballroom movement. They were so friendly and informative. Their motto«embraces sexual & gender nonconformity that is defined, marginalized and embodied the proud and creative culture of LGBT people» they also sell the I am Jazz book from the TLC show

The Stonewall National Museum & Archives is conveniently located on the Drive, at 2157 Wilton Drive, in an area generally recognized as being within the heart of the Gay Community. It serves not only as being a collection of history but as a solid reminder of the years of struggle and a recorded record of the years of suffering endured by the Gay Community. Hence, a reminder of times and events not to be forgotten. I visited the museum on June 21, which was Gay Pride Day and Wilton Manors Stonewall Parade and festival. The displays presented were clippings from newspapers, books, headlines and various pamphlets centering around the«Days Without Sunshine,» which are those dark, dreary days when Anita Bryant so instrumental sought and got the repeal of a gay-rights referendum, resulting in what ended up as being years legitimized and legal persecution and discrimination against not only gay people, but anybody thought to be gay or even just gay-rights friendly; a regular modern day witch hunt. The set up within the museum is neat, orderly and within a time line reference. It includes every type of historical material, those of the pro-gay rights movement as well as those that clearly favored continued discrimination. As a funny aside, for me the«Days Without Sunshine» had a quirky effect. One of my favorite drinks back then had been a screwdriver consisting of vodka and Florida orange juice. Since those days(read 1977), and in sort of a continuing rebellion against Anita Bryant and her sponsors, the Florida Citrus Growers Association, I’ve never since had a screwdriver or much of anything to do with Florida Orange Juice. Though small and not very elaborate, Five Stars for the importance and for the purposes it serves.
