Shoppes of Wilton Manors

J’aime bien cet endroit. Les gars y sont beaux, sympathiques et pas prétencieux. Ça change des endroits gays de Montréal, au Québec ! C’est très agréable de pouvoir manger sur la terrasse du Alibi après une journée sur la plage.

A gay strip mall! Strip malls tend to be so South Florida, but a gay strip mall with gay bars, gay entertainment, gay restaurants, gay pizza parlors, gay coffee houses, gay discos, gay clothing stores, gay optics, and gay gyms? Then, as if that were not enough, a GayMart Store! Shoppe’s has to be yet another one of those «only in South Florida» type of places.
However, when you are there you quickly discover that Shoppe’s is more than just a «gay» thing. Though predominately gay, this little strip mall seems to work as the center of a community; a community that is a welcoming to all, a be who you are, be what are and act what you are kind of place. It’s truly unique and in actuality constitutes what is the downtown of the City of Wilton Manors.
Five Stars just for being the most unique of strip malls.

Without a downtown, what to do? OMG, a gay strip mall! How South Florida is this!
The Shoppes at Wilton Manor houses Java Boys coffee house, Boom video dance bar, Georgie’s Alibi café and bar, Bottoms & Tops clothing and club wear, Wix and Wax candles and décor, and even a Gay Mart — everything a suburban queer needs! I hear Starbucks is coming, too.
I prefer more organic gayborhood development, but this sure is something to see.
