Went in today to begin a project for Christmas. There are mostly calicoes in stock and very few below $ 10/yd, but a beautiful selection of classic and modern prints. I went here first because it’s a local place and second because a previous review had mentioned its welcoming atmosphere for beginners. Norma helped me from the second I walked into the door until the moment I left. She was an ambassador for the sewing world. She maintained a distance while I searched for my fabrics and then made herself available for all my questions. I am interested in the classes and the community here… it’s such a friendly place, but it is more expensive than the fabric store chains. Update: went in today to work quietly on my projects(almost impossible at home with a toddler!) and I’ve got to say, it was one of the more enjoyable afternoons I’ve spent. Everyone is open to any and all questions, nice conversation, easy-to-use machines. Just a neat place.

Yes, men do sew. Granted I only do straight lines for drapes and such, but it’s something. I always get hung up on pillow zippers so I went to Sewn Loverly near where I work to ask a little advice. WOW! These ladies know what they are doing and they didn’t bat an eye that some middle-aged guy came in to ask for help. They took me over to a machine and walked me through step by step. Now I’m a pro. They’ve got a great selection of fabrics and I purchased a couple of yards for a new shower curtain. They have all sorts of classes too. Check ‘em out for sure.
