This review is not on the restaurant but on the owner, Shawn Dionne. He by far is one of the most unethical, malicious and devious restaurant owners I have ever meet. Just for your information, The Oregon Wine Garden is closed. The employees showed up on Sunday, Aug 9th to find chains on the doors because Shawn failed to pay rent. The week before, the water was turned off for lack of payment. I’m not surprised by the reviews, what the public should know is that the chef and staff had to make food with no budget since Sysco refuses to work with Shawn. At one point, the Executive Chef had to go to Cash & Carry and buy food on his personal credit card. Shawn told him that if he did not do this, then they couldn’t open and none of the employees would get paid. Seriously??? The worst part of this is that ALL the employee paychecks bounced for work from July 15th to July 31st and no one has been paid for work completed from Aug 1st to Aug 8th. Shawn has made no effort to rectify this, nor has he called anyone to apologize or make payment arrangements. He is simply refusing to pay anyone. I do not understand how he sleeps at night knowing that his dedicated staff are unable to pay their rent, mortgages or bills. Many employees have filed BOLI claims but not sure if anything will come of it since everyone just noticed that Shawn signed his wife’s name on the paychecks. The entire situation boggles my mind and I wonder how someone can get away with this. It is just very sad.

To start, they should not call themselves the Oregon Wine Garden as there is no garden setting to speak of. The best you can hope for is one of the few outdoor tables that looks at the putting green. Very misleading. We went there for a wine tasting they were offering. Clearly they need to train employees better because she didn’t know that a sampling for 2 meant that EACH person gets 5 samples. I wonder how many people got ripped off on that one. Yes, 5 samples per person is standard, not sharing 5 samples. So we were handed a menu and told to pick 5 wines. What she really meant was that they have 5 whites and 5 reds, both of which include a cheap house wine. So we thought we were going to be able to taste some good wines, but that wasn’t the case. Maybe a little separate one for tastings, or even bringing in special wines for tastings. Possibly opening more bottles once in a while. They don’t even serve most of their menu by the glass. Good luck with that! They also clearly need to learn what a 1oz pour is because each one was clearly much smaller than that. If the goal is to sell me wine then you might want me to actually get to taste it. Not that the waitress knew anything about the wines anyway. Don’t get me wrong, she was nice, but if the manager or owner want to try wine tastings they should probably check out a couple wineries in advance to see how it’s done. Wasn’t impressed with that. We were also supposed to get a cheese/cracker/veggie tray with this. What we got was cheese/bread/grapes. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked it and the bread was really good and soft, but you should give people what is advertised if you don’t want angry customers. I thought it was better, but not everyone will. So this place gets a fail as far as the wine tasting went with the terrible(and seemingly watered down) wines, but the server was nice and the cheese plate was good and plentiful, which are the only reasons it doesn’t get 1 star.

We came here on a groupon that advertised a starter and two full entrees. When We arrived we were informed that we could order anything we wanted, but that the groupon amount would be subtracted and we would still have a balance at the end. The service was subpar, with waiters interrupting us when we spoke and managers coming out to inform us of extra changes added to our meal. They were out of our appetizer, and still tried to charge us for it, and the meal I ordered was out for the day. I had the fish and chips and was seriously underwhelmed. The fish had no taste at all, and it’s saving grace was ketchup. The«herb fries» were just cold fries with dry parsley. This country club could use a better restaurant. Not worth the 30 minute drive from Portland.

We were recommend by friends for this experience and it fell short. The food was decent, although bland and slightly over-cooked, had potential, and the bartender needed to go back to school. The drinks were sub-par and watered down. The server neglected us, and was stand-offish on specials and the dessert menu. Which we found odd as there were only three parties in the whole restaurant. Upon departure, the owners thanked us, it was would of been better if both of them were sober at the time. To top it off, we were asked why our gratuity wasn’t up to their standard. Definitely ruined the whole night. Please proceed with caution.

I really want to give this place 5 stars because all my 15 years of living in Charbonneau I’ve wanted a good restaurant to go in here and I thing Oregon Wine Garden has great potential! I’m not Vegan but do love the healthy options. I loved the vegan pizza, the vegetables were piled high and very fresh! If you ever have had soya then you know it’s consistency is not the same as regular cheese so next time I’d get it with regular cheese. The herbed fries were so tasty accompanied next to the halibut sandwich, all very fresh. The brussel sprouts and avocado fries were great for appetizers Why no 5th star: Desserts(Crème brûlée was cold and dense and on special, the custard dessert was flavorless) Lack of outdoor Patio(which I hear is coming soon) All in all we WILL be returning!

We have been waiting for a restauranteur to re-open the lodge like location on the Charbonneau Golf Course and the owner of Hayden’s Grill has done it! We had our first dinner of many to come here on Valentine’s Day. It was wonderful. We enjoyed fresh salads, grilled Salmon with polenta, and an amazing chocolate cake. The setting and the ambience make it a unique experience and a much-needed alternative to overcrowded, shopping mall dinner spots in Wilsonville.

There are a multitude of things going on at The Oregon Wine Garden in Charbonneau. ** Pairings Restaurant, Bar & Grill ** Wine Tasting ** Wine Tours ** Wine Shop ** Wine History Center ** Banquet Space So far my personal experience has been at the restaurant which opened in January, but I’m looking forward to taking one of the wine tours as well. They are still in the process of renovating the space, which is a large building towards the back of Charbonneau’s Village Shopping Center by the country club and golf course. There is a traditional dining room upstairs and a more casual bar and grill on the lower level with craft beer on tap. As far as I can tell, they offer the same menu in both dining rooms, but have happy hour and more specials downstairs. Currently the restaurant is 21 and over only, but this may change in the future. Funny because our table in the restaurant upstairs was covered with butcher paper with crayons on the table. Perhaps it is intended for adults to doodle while sipping their wine? The restaurant space is quite dark and filled with wood beams, so I wonder if they plan to continue renovations and lighten it up at some point? There is an outdoor patio area, but it is not currently in use. The bar and grill has a golf club casual feel with more natural light and windows looking out towards the golf course. In that area, there is one smaller flat screen TV, so you can watch a game while dining. This has been a tricky location for prior businesses to thrive, so I approached my visit with a fair bit of cautious optimism. But, I was quite impresses by the menu, wine list, price and service. In particular, I like the Oregon focus of the wine list and that the menu has a good mix of standard far and interesting items that isn’t too formal or stuffy. For lunch, I had the Curried Chicken Salad and my mom had the Pan Seared Chicken Paillard, both of which were very good. When food allergies were mentioned, accommodations were readily made, which is always a plus. The server was knowledgeable about the wine list which also contains pairing suggestions with the food. I’m told they are still in the process of meeting with local wineries and in particular want to offer wines from smaller, boutique wineries that don’t have their own tasting rooms. At the moment they have minimal information on their website and in person about the wine tours, so that is in process. You can see the red trolley they will use for the tours as you approach the business.
