This place looked super sketch but I’m glad we went! They have cheap drinks and Sandy was the nicest lady ever! We asked for recommendations about what to do around the area and she gave us a million things to do! I had to take notes haha. They have a little patio area that’s a work in progress but it’s super chill. I wish we could have stayed for the live bands and stuff but maybe next time cause I heard the Jazz and Blues bands are amazing.

This place is just my style. It’s a neighbor hole in the wall style bar that supports local music, especially blues. Go on Tuesday nights for the Blues jam. It was better then any concert I paid upwards of $ 50 to see. The bartender was so nice. Drinks are priced low to average. Pool table and juke box to entertain you after the great blues music ends. It’s in a residential neighborhood not even a few miles from the touristy area of Wilmington. If a laid back setting is what you want go to this bar.

Home of the Cape Fear Blues Society. The Tuesday night jam was better than any house blues band I have heard in Austin or St. Louis. Cheap beers, two bucks I think? Located in a quiet neighborhood, I feel safer here than ANY place downtown.

Legitimate neighborhood blues bar on so many levels. I hesitate to give it 5 stars since I don’t want more people to find out about it and run the locals out. I think I met everyone in the bar within 2 hours on Saturday night. Overly friendly, divey, shotgun style. Bleeds character. For musicians, you go to the back and sign up for your set wherever there is an opening(drums, bass, guitar, sax, etc). We went with a bass player and he got right in. Great chance to see local working musicians, amateurs and hobbyists jam all night and perfect their craft. Tuesday is official Blues Jam night, Saturday was fun too. I’m working this into my dive bar rotation for sure.

The Rusty Nail is a little bar on 5th Street, away from the downtown CBD, in a somewhat sketchy part of town. They have live blues music most nights, and occasionally have some big-ish names come through. The music I heard was generic, sloppy blues, but the place was endearing, I really liked it. It reminds me of a little Mississippi juke joint.
