I have to give them major props because they did a phenomenal job on my hair styling and makeup. I was a little nervous since I had never been to Wilmington so I just Unilocaled hair salons and low and behold, this is what popped up!
They were super sweet and I loved chatting with them since I was there for a few hours. I’ve uploaded photos so you can see, but I was super impressed that my hair looked just like the Pinterest photo that I showed them and same with my makeup!
Once again, I was impressed with Wilmington and hope to come back!

I had no idea what to expect by this place, but I was determined to get my hair styled the way I wanted it.
Dang — I wish I could remember her name, but the girl who cut my hair ended up giving me the best cut I’ve had in years — I looked great and so far it’s been very easy to maintain the look!
The price was great and I had no appointment! Nice job!

I LOVE MARSHA at Solar Hair! She has been doing my hair for 3 years and I always leave pleased. Three years ago I had very long hair — and I wanted a type if «bob» and she pulled it off beautifully. (although I realized my face is to large to sport a bob and have since regrown my hair)
Normally I get a two-​step coloring process done. Coloring white hairs and adding highlights. This last visit — -I decided to be bold and try something new, RED!
I was afraid… but Marsha pulled it off. My hairs beautiful!!! See my original profile photo for old coloring as a comparison. (although I may update it soon)
Whoever said «blondes have more fun»…evidently has never been a red head. I gets lots of compliments.

Shari has been my stylist for several years. I met her in 2005 just before graduating from college. My hair was in complete disrep-​hair. It had many years of coloring over color and the ends were completely fried. Plus it did not have a style. I was pulling it back with just a hair tie each day then spraying it back. Shari took me under her wing and had me coming in about every six weeks. There were even times where I would forget that it was time to get my hair cut and she would actually call me to say «Leslie, I think you are due for another cut and color» Not only did Shari cut my hair BUT she also educated me on how to take care of it at home. Within about a year my hair was perfect and strangers were walking up to me at supermarkets, gas stations, and the workplace to compliment me on the INCREDIBLE red color that Shari mixed. I literally had to carry her business cards with me in Wilmington because people wanted to have it done too. Shari Martin is a Expert Style Technologist that is incredibly talented when it comes to sculpting hair.

After moving to Wilmington last year, I needed to find a new stylist. I have long thick dark brown hair and I know it’s a feat for many stylists to do color and highlights on it the way I like, mostly because it takes a few hours of coloring alone. Marsha is the absolute best and I would reccommend her to anyone! I have never been so happy with not only my cut, but my hair color. She really gives an incredible experience and is very patient and meticulous with her job. I know that my hair is going to look fabulous everytime I leave her chair. If you are in the need of a new stylist you Marsha is the absolute best! :)

I had my hair done by Bryanna. I have very thin hair and had it cut to a choppy bob. She did a great job and was really friendly. I’ll definitely go back. Price was readable too.
From what I could tell the rest of the staff was friendly and I was able to get in fairly quick. They worked me in within an hour.

Contrary to what Gary C the ower says, This review is is NO WAY fake. I am NOT affiliated with any other hair salon. I am a military spouse and graduate student. I had two hair apts with Solar Hair in late fall 2012 (I don’t have my planner anymore for the exact date) and then again in January 2013 (17^th). This review doesn’t show that Unilocal is worthless, it shows that this business gets its business from Unilocal and is concerned about a negative review. Well, its true. I WAS an unhappy client. I am no longer unhappy because I won’t be going there any longer. However, THIS REVIEW IS COMPLETELY LEGIT. The end.

Had my hair cut & colored by miss Julianna. She is not only a beautiful, talented and compassionate young lady, but she has a niche for being «the all around». It’s too hard to find a good cut hand with a good color. This girl has cut and colored my hair three times now, and each time I’m more pleased than the last. A young talent and my swiftly becoming my one and only!!! Thanks so much for making me beautiful!

My sister in-​law, Sarah James-​Brown, works there and she does phenomenal work!
I got a full color, highlights, haircut and blowout and was, literally, blown away!
Definitely, call in and ask for Sarah. You won’t regret it!

Marsha is amazing and a great value

I have been getting a Brazilian Blowout and haircut at Solar with Marsha for the last 6 months. I know I am paying about half of what it would cost at high priced salons. The blowout is supposed to last 3 months, but my hair looks almost as good after 3 months as when I first got it done. Marsha always does a great job, both in the blowout and the cut. I constantly get compliments.
Plus, Marsha is such a sweetheart. She is available every day and makes every accomodation to the customer.
I highly recommend Marsha at Solar Salon!

Awesome! I was in in town visiting from Charlotte and in desperate need of a cut and color. Solarhair happened to have a slot open the next day and I took it. I am very picky about stylists and my cuts, so I was extremely nervous about going somewhere that I was not refered to by a friend. The lady that answered the phone, who I believe is one of the partners, was so friendly, that I chose to take the plunge. My stylist, Marsha (also a partner), called the next morning and had run into a personal issue and asked if we could make the appointment for about half an hour later, and that was completely fine with me. I showed up at the appointment with my laptop and explained that I had done an Elle Makeover online and that the picture was exactly what I wanted. I expected Marsha to laugh in my face, but instead, she called the other stylist over to take a look and they thought it was the coolest thing ever. 2 hours, good conversation, and a few laughs later… I exited the building making a complete conversion. I went from blonde to dark brunette with a few random highlights, an awesome style with swept over bangs, an eyebrow wax and tint, and still, a fairly full wallet! I looked just like the picture I had taken with me. I definitely recommend this salon and Marsha, and that says ALOT coming from me!

I live in Jacksonville and travel to Wilmington to get my hair done– this is the second place I have tried since living here and I am fairly confident that I will return to Solar Hair, especially Marsha.
I have slightly coarse, wavy hair that Marsha handled like a champ– my color (which I’m most particular about) was executed flawlessly– no chunky highlights or weird toner issues. She listened to exactly what I was looking for but I also allowed for her to use her expertise and make adjustments she felt necessary. She was friendly without being annoying and the place was cute, clean and welcoming.
On a side note, a walk-​in client with wild hair came in unhappy with a previous style– she wanted something quite short and had difficulty explaining what she was looking for– I watched one of the other stylists take the time to understand what she wanted, clarify, explain some potential issues and give the woman the cut she wanted.
Def will go back again– plus first time customers get 20% off, so haircut and highlights were only 86.00! I paid around 220.00 in Boston, so I was thrilled.

In dire need of a cut, I called two places this afternoon to check for openings. The first was Curl Up n Dye. I received a pretty smart aleck response on the phone (see review for Curl Up N’Dye). I had attempted CUnD first because it was located just a smidgen closer to home. Well, after making an appointment at SolarHair immediately following the first call, I was happy that the gals at the other place didn’t want my business.
My appointment was with Tiffani who, despite having a bad day as her car broke down in the morning, was jovial and funny. She was very laid back and although we did chat a bit, I didn’t feel the need to have that constant conversation you are often forced into with your hair stylist.
I have very thick and long hair. I basically told her that I wanted approximately four inches taken off and layered a bit to lighten it up. I usually ask hair dressers to thin it out for me, but no one ever seems up to the challenge and it’s never thinned enough so I’ve since stopped asking. I was pleasantly surprised when Tiffani proactively asked if I’d like her to thin it out. She said she’d texture the back and the thicker side as well to help with the weight. The layers are great and I actually have the illusion of thin hair now. It’s the best cut I’ve had in years! Plus, it’s just long enough that I can still get it into a ponytail on those scorchin’ hot days.
I normally also get foils, but with the summer months and bright sun lightening my hair for me I skipped it this time. I’ll be sure to update the next time I got back. Which I definitely will!
Oh! There is also currently a $ 10 coupon for new clients if you search for SolarHair on Google. Instead of $ 32 (standard for my crazy thick, long mane), I paid a mere $ 22 before tip. Not bad for a great hair salon.
