Safeway Food & Drug

Pros It has pretty good butcher and it is conveniently located near us and it is always less crowded than the acme.
Cons They don’t rotate or take expired food off of shelf and I have been burned quite a few times by not checking. Somehow I bought expired baby food once which is crazy because that stuff is good for a year. I just bought expired cheese there. One of those big packages of Pollyo string cheese. I usually get them at Costco but I made the mistake of buying it at Safeway. Fortunately wegmans will be opening up soon and I will shop there, trader joes, and Costco. If Safeway doesn’t change its lazy ways I don’t see how they will survive.

This grocery store is a store me and my family shop at quite often! It’s in a convenient location, and it has my needs.
Now there meat section is very good! Well stocked and fresh! They have a nice variety of different meats, and decently priced.
Their seafood section just isn’t up to par. Usually has fish that doesn’t look very fresh, and usually looks butchered up. They could really work in the seafood department!
Their produce department is okay. They offer a nice variety and they do have an organic section which is nice! This store can get a bit pricey when it comes to this department though.
The deli and bakery side of the store is nice. They have lots to offer from the bakery. Their different cakes are enjoyable! Their deli meats are okay, and the different sides they make such as potato salads, pasta salads, etc are always very tasty!
This store also has a Starbucks which is nice! They also have an area with tables and chairs to sit and eat at!
This store is always kept clean and have spacious isles which is nice to push carts around in! Employees here are so so. Attitudes from some! Overall it’s a nice grocery store and would recommend!

On nammans road in brandywine hundred area. The store customer service was horrible. The selection was not up to date. Found out of date produce and things I the shelves. I would not recommend to anyone

1star, this store is always out of sale items, they always have old sale tags in the aisle which always leads to going to customer service to fix the bill. The store is very slow, the only positive is there is never any customers there but yet if you want lunchmeat from the deli you better pack a lunch, its the slowest moving deli ive ever seen, and store management is terrible.

Large clean friendly staff has a starbucks as all Safeways do. It is a bit pricey but bein from AZ ww shopped here or Fry’s. I love Safeway and they are the only place in DE or MD I can buy tiger prawns peeled and deveined. Oh how I miss you Safeway!

Good grocery store in the heart of the Brandywine Hundred. The seafood counter has a nice selection, the Starbucks is always a pleasure! The interior is wide open and there’s plenty of space for shopping carts and moving around. The WSFS Bank inside is a nice touch as well.
Now the bad. The vegetables are lackluster and just not very fresh to say the least, if not less. The veggie selection is a bit scarce as well. The prices are a bit extreme ($ 1 a piece for green peppers?- Geez) and their check out lines are almost always terrible (I try to avoid Sundays, but then realized it didn’t matter what day of the week you go).
Overall, its a good store, but having just renovated like 2 years ago, its looking a bit in need of yet another facelift. Hopefully, this time they’ll add some more cashiers.

Large, ample, clean and well stocked new Safeway in the outskirts of Wilmington, just blocks from the Pennsylvania line and of course, enticing the customers from the Keystone State to spend their money on tax-​free goods. Their vegetable selections are superb. Starbucks inside, of course, complimenting the shopping experience. And of course, wine on the shelves; this makes it worthwhile for anyone to do one-​stop shopping to avoid the draconically medieval wine and beer sales laws in the Commonwealth. Outstanding store…
