I wanted to stop by & take a gander(45 minutes after they closed) they opened(they said I looked pitiful @ the window — there may have been drool involved) completely sublime éclair, meringue cookies on point & crème puffs in so many flavors! I ordered napoleons for pick up tomorrow — I have found the best Italian bakery in the Carolinas — hands down!(& they make Cassata cakes to order too & a mimosa cake I’ll be ordering for my daughters birthday!) there aren’t enough stars!

Stopped here one day after I visited the sandwich shop next door. They are a small local bakery and not a gigantic selection to choose from. But that is something you would expect from a small bakery. Not all of the items are made that day, some are from a previous day, and if you ask, they will gladly tell you when everything was made. I really liked that instead of them trying to sell me the oldest item in the shoppe. I had an éclair, and it was really light and fresh tasting. It is definitely worth having another one when I am back in the area. #300

Picked up some music paper at the farmers market, incredible, kinda like home made pita chips. The desserts looked great too.

True Italian bakery run by an Italian lady. everything is made from scratch. pastries are hand crafted. This is an old european skill that gets passed down. rare find anywhere in the US. The pastries are delicious and beautiful… try an assortment. tiramisu, zepolle’s pistachio pastry stand out but all are excellent.

I went there w/my sister recently SUPER anxious to try some delicious italian pastries, and they didnt disappoint. I’m new to wilmington, so it was imperative i found a place to get my rainbow cookie fix. However, once i started looking in the display it became more and more apparent that i wasnt going to be leaving w/just the rainbow cookies. The people there were VERY nice, and filled me in on all the places I needed to go for good food. Anyway, this place may be my second home. I know as some have mentioned the prices are a bit high, but this is a mom and pop place that makes the stuff fresh daily, and you’re paying for higher quality pastries, and not a pop tart.

I’m a huge fan of pistachio and they have quite a few items with the tasty flavor. My favorite would definitely be the pistachio cream puff! The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because I ordered a cake for my birthday and the bottom had a wet feeling about it. But it was still very good.

Love love love the Diplomatico, Amaretto Bites, Geraldina cookies, Sfogliatelle(best I’ve ever had!), Rainbow cookies, Mimosas, and the little amaretto tarts. We’re moving away from Wilmington soon and I will miss La Gemma the most. Like other people that commute several hours for their treats, I will have no problem driving from Raleigh to get my pastry fix! They also catered the desserts for our wedding and did a fantastic job. People were raving about them!

La Gemma Bakery has the best foccacia! I always try to visit them at the Poplar Grove Farmer’s Market on Wednesdays for the freshest bakes goods. Everything I have ever bought from them is always so delicious and fresh. You have to try it all!

I have visited only once, and it was recent. I really wanted to like this place. The front lady was very pleasant and helpful. The pastries look much better than they actually are, and they are more expensive than they should be. Good deals on day old items such as bread. This is an odd location, I stubbled across this place while riding my bicycle otherwise it would have gone unnoticed. Try it for yourself. Everyone should try to support local when they can. Maybe you will enjoy it more than me?
