Waited over an hour for food. They didn’t bring everyone’s out at the same time, so some people’s food got cold waiting for everyone else to get their meals. They did comp a portion of the meal. I’d say the food is food, but the service that day was not.

I’m a former executive chef and I’ve always loved this place. Good food at a reasonable price for as long as I can remember. Until tonight. We were seating in the new«bar» section, which had as much ambiance and character as an emergency room lobby. The menu is now a book and is incredibly hard to read because if the small print and dim lighting. So we order our food. A salad and Garlic cheese bread to start. First compaint: lettuce should be torn for a salad. And it should be in pieces that easily fit in the diner’s mouth. Neither was the case in this salad. It looked a though they whacked a head of iceberg with a knife 4 or 5 times and said«meh». Second complaint: garlic cheese bread should have garlic, right? Not here. Tasted like a grilled cheese sandwich my nephew made back in third grade. Then came our entrees. My girlfriend has spinach tortellini with Alfredo sauce. What was placed in front of her was abysmal. This large plastic plate the size of a rugby ball with about 2 cups of Alfredo sauce and about 15 overcooked tortellini swimming for their life. That’s it. No cheese, no chopped parsley, nada. Reminded me of school cafeteria food. Then I tasted the sauce and it was obviously a canned or frozen product. Very bland and flavorless. I had the gnocchi(which has always been my favorite here) with a side of meatballs. Gnocchi was fine, but the meatballs were awful. Absolutely no flavor at all. Basically tasted like boiled lumps of mealy ground«meat» that had been sitting in a steam table all day. Girlfriend tasted one(before i said anything about how they were) and immediately spit it out saying they were terrible. I’m confident these were also a frozen product because of their uniform shape and size. Handrolled meatballs, even when measured out with a scoop or baller, are not exactly the same. I think the expansion of the dining room and bar area has severely compromised the quality of food coming out of the kitchen, with too many shortcuts being made to keep up with the increased demand. I’ve seen this happen all too often with popular spots. Expansion is all too often their demise. And I’m afraid that’s what is happening to Elizabeth’s, much to my dismay.

If I could give this place no stars, I would. The owner is crazy and was being intensely rude to one of her waitresses right in front of the customers. Everyone who works there looks miserable, understandably so. Pizza was half cold, and wrong toppings. Décor is outdated and the place is always dark, even though I went during the day. And you can smell the restrooms from across the restaurant. Or maybe it’s just their crappy food, who knows?

Seems like a solid candidate for Kitchen Nightmares. Insane number of wait staff more or less standing around. Even a wave for one to come over is met with diverted eyes. Been over an hour and food has yet to come. Came here because of such solid reviews. I am compelled to write my first ever Unilocal review because things are so far different from what is posted here. Makes me wonder… If my Stromboli happens to be the most epic thing I’ve ever eaten then I’ll update this review.

The Greek salad was the ! The icicle Christmas lights really add to the authentic décor, which was designed by renowned local artist Dennis Setterfield and assembled by his very talented crew at Setterfield Design. The pizza came out piping hot and was absolutely delightful! The Neopolitan-style pizza had a thin, crisped crust, which allows you to eat many more slices than you had intended! But, oh, what a delight it was to gorge ourselves with this tremendous gastronomic triumph! I would readily recommend this sly little pizza«joint» to any of my brethren. Cheers to the good people of Elizabeth’s Pizza for putting a skip in my step this day! Cheers indeed!

The food here was fine, but nothing too exciting it’s really uncomfortable seating along the wall — way too tight and no leg room. I got the sausage, peppers and onions and it was good, but the sausage was small and sparse and the marinara served over it was funny. The Stromboli my son had was good, with a nice, garlic-y bread. The rest of my group had pizza and they had no complaints. Good beer selection too.

Well for starters I ordered a coffee and asked to have some creamer once my coffee arrived. The waitress proceeded to tell me that they were out. Wouldn’t this be something you say BEFORE you go and get the coffee? That already hurt her tip. I then ask for unsweetened iced tea. When I got it, it tasted like piss water. We are already there 20min and she finally got the bread. I mean cmon just do your job. After we order, somehow the food came out correct… literally 15min after our food arrived she asked if we wanted any boxes. We were going to get desert but since we were rushed out we decided against it. I’ve been here before but that waitress was an idiot. Needless to say her tip wasn’t that great.

The food was good, but the sauce was really bland. We ordered some garlic knots as an appetizer and the sauce was one step above tomato soup. It needed a ton of seasoning. The same sauce came with the calzone and almost ruined it.

I think they have an inadequate oven. I’m in town visiting friends. They say that when they came here for a late lunch in the middle of the week, it was a lot better. The problems i saw were that the crust was hard and the toppings were not browned. That adds up to baked too long in an oven not hot enough. It makes sense, since i was there during peak evening hours on a friday. Oven getting opened too frequently, a lot of food going in and out, oven can’t keep up. too much heat loss. I would suggest they look into upgrading their ovens. I guess I’m assuming they use slot ovens. They should, and get enough slots that they can bake at the correct temperature on their busiest night. If they are using conveyor ovens, maybe the convection is down? *shrug*. Because if this is the best pizza in the cape fear region, the cape fear region doesn’t have good pizza. So i hope for their sake that it’s an equipment issue. the staff was great.

The Stromboli is giant and yummy! It can literally feed you for an entire weekend. They even hook you up with extra sauce on the side. Tried the pizza here once but honestly can’t remember it, but the Stromboli!!! I had to go back again!

Not good anymore. The pizza was ok but undercooked. The salads were warm as was the dressings. The fresh made daily garlic knots once a STAR are not a DAMNJOKE! They came out to the table and we’re still FROZEN in the middle. Disgusting to say the least. Sitting at the 1st booth both the manager(male host) and the female owner running the registered saw and heard everything and NEITHER of them came over to the table to see what the issue was. THEYALLTHEREJUSTDON’T CAREORGIVE A DAMN!!! Had to demand they remove them from my bill. Guess they lost one of there best 2 times a week customers and they DON’T GIVE A DAMN!!!

I had a craving for some pizza, and I didn’t want he normal chain pizza places. After searching online we came across Elizabeth’s Pizza. They have a nice selection on their menu, and you can tell that people like them when you see a steady supply of people coming to dine in, and pick up take-out orders. One family even called their order in so that when they arrived to dine in, it would be ready for them. The pizza comes out piping hot. The cheese was like hot lava. You pick up a slice and it melts and oozes everywhere. It was definitely good. I wasn’t going to eat a large, but I ordered one anyway just so that I could take plenty home with me. The server was very friendly, and was there to answer any questions that I had, and to wait on the table. I can’t think of a single complaint about the entire evening. When I am back in the area, and a pie, they will surely be on the top of the list. #377

Don’t judge this place by the outside! As we walked inside we were immediately greeted by a gentleman behind the counter(later referred to as the guy) who had a sense of humor at 11 o’clock at night, that should say a lot. It seems after a certain time around 10:30pm or so, the only items available are pizzas and calzones. We asked about desserts and the guy who was working kindly told us yes no problem, so we went with the tiramisu and cannoli. We ordered two calzones which were perfect in size, big enough to fill you up. The first thing that I always notice is the cook of the dough, usually calzones are tricky and the dough is sometimes raw on the inside. No problem here! I actually noticed the guy walk back over to the pizza maker and made sure the whole thing was as it should. total quality at its best. Cheese had flavor and wasn’t bland. The toppings, tomatoes and eggplant were good. Now to the sweets… The cannoli cream was probably the best part; had a hint of brandy or coffee liqueur, something in it was addictive. The cannoli itself also had some cinnamon coat to it. great flavor. The tiramisu could’ve used more coffee or splash of something, was good but not as good as the cannoli. Overall, don’t judge this place! If you are in the area and need a bite to eat especially when it’s late, stop by. The service was on point and quality above average for a pizza joint. 4 stars for food and 5 stars for service.

Food is ok. I have only been here for take out 5 or 6 times. The owner or manager(older woman perhaps in her 50’s) who is always there is not very friendly. Cold. never smiles and tonight just handed me a pizza box without any eye contact or words. I said is this mine and she barely nodded. The only reason I write this is because I am in the industry and every single time I have been there for to go food her attitude is the same. I doubt I will return. Customer service and interaction is everything. A smile and simple thank you is worth a million words.

Elizabeth’s Pizza on Market Street has an odd niche all to itself. Open late, it’s the place one goes when it’s 11:15 p.m., you’ve missed the closing times for conventional sit-down fare and you’d like an actual meal. Elizabeth’s provides a reliable alternative to bars, the approximations of food offered by burger and taco chains or, heaven forbid, the Waffle House. A certain kind of Italian restaurant review likens the place to how one would actually dine in Italy. So let’s be clear: Elizabeth’s is nothing at all like the experience of having dinner in a secluded haunt in Florence. Sure, the murals of some Mediterranean countryside painted on the dining room walls, electric palm fronds in place of ceiling fans and the house Chianti by the carafe all try hard to give that impression, but one will never doubt for a moment that he or she is in Wilmington, N.C. But the old wooden tables and just-a-bit-too-dark lighting are cozy anyway, and it’s a relaxing atmosphere in which to have a meal. As one would expect, Elizabeth’s menu is heavy on American-Italian favorites such as pasta and two varieties of pizza turnovers, calzones and stromboli. As seems customary these days, the typical pasta entrée can comfortably feed a family of three. Budget-conscious students may wish to consider sharing a meal. The peppery bruschetta at $ 5.95 consisting of toasted Italian bread topped with tomato, basil leaves, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and smoked mozzarella was a solid choice off an appetizer menu that divides itself between traditional Italian selections and the usual deep-fried suspects such as jalapeño poppers and hot wings. Elizabeth’s also features a variety of fresh salads, including a nice build-your-own option. That said, the standard dinner salad failed to impress, featuring mainly – ugh – iceberg lettuce and a ho-hum creamy Italian dressing. Order a Caesar instead. Among the pasta entrees, the lobster ravioli was a winner, with al dente, meat-and-ricotta stuffed pasta swimming in a creamy, herby pink sauce. It’s also a steal at $ 11. Order extra bread for sopping. The spaghetti with red clam sauce at $ 9.25 worked as well, with a chunky, light tomato sauce that let the pasta and the meat do their work, complemented by a likeable balance of garlic and oregano. Among the desserts, the dark, rich tiramisu at $ 3.50 was tasty and visually appealing, with cocoa powder sprinkled atop white mascarpone cheese, alternating bitter with sweet. It seemed suspiciously like it was from a box, but at least it was a good box. The service on a recent visit, provided mostly by waiters dressed as mafia dons, was quick and exceptionally friendly. It was an additional selling point for a place that already has a lot going for it. Drop by after 10 p.m. for the full effect.

Unfortunately I was underwhelmed by Elizabeth’s. I have gotten recommendations to eat here by a few people, and read the good reviews, so I thought it would be pretty good. The location(as noted by other reviewers) is a bit strange. It is in a shopping center with several other businesses, and the parking is pretty crammed. We came on a Friday around 5:30 and the lot was packed. We walked into a very crowded restaurant, with a line of 2 other groups in front of us. The restaurant was very loud… poor acoustics. We were sat quickly and got our drink order in right away. I ordered the eggplant parm sandwich with sweet potato fries and my boyfriend got the stromboli. The fries came first, the stromboli came about 5 minutes later(at least), and sandwich came a few minutes after that. Very weird timing… I do not like when items come out at different times. I ordered my fries with my sandwich, not as an appetizer. First, the sweet potato fries had some sort of sugary topping on them, I think it was confectioners sugar. I really dislike when restaurants put sugar on their sweet potato fries, I think they are good enough without the extra junk. That’s fine if the chef decides to do that, but please at least let me know in the menu description. There was no mention of the«junk» on the fries on the menu. I would have requested without. The fries tasted OK, but lacked salt. My sandwich had mediocre bread, probably purchased at the grocery store. Was not crispy or chewy. It was even starting to get mushy by the time I had my last few bites. The eggplant parm was very mushy and flavorless. Despite the mediocrity, I was nice and full after my meal. I also got a bite of the stromboli. It was too doughy and a little undercooked. The service was weird. Our waitress did not speak loud enough, I could barely hear her. Another waitress came to fill drinks, I couldn’t hear her either. The service was perfectly attentive, but very impersonal. I was pretty happy, though, when I received my bill for $ 20. It’s cheap at least. It seems the pizza is probably the best thing to get here, but I am not confident enough from my meal to return to try it.
