This is a wonderful oasis of wildlife near the heart of Wilmington. We saw a juvenile bald eagle fishing in the river. There are nature trails and education stations on the refuge.

I’m glad this place is here. Before it was just nothing, almost a wasteland if you will. It’s run by the Delaware Nature Society. It’s connected to the Riverwalk along the Riverfront in downtown Wilmington; where the river meet marshland. It is on the edge of the 212-acre Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge. They are open to the public all year and they have indoor and outdoor exhibits. They have programs for all ages, also they have programs for teachers. It’s a nice little place to just walk around and check out the wildlife. It’s usually nice and quite there. I always being my camera when I go.
