I attended Wilmette Jr. High for 7th and 8th grade. Junior high is an awkward, angsty period in just about every teenager’s life, and I navigated it here. For the first time, my classmates and I went from classroom to classroom for subjects, rather than having one teacher teach us everything. I found I actually really liked being exposed to a variety of different teaching styles, as well as the opportunity to stretch my legs during passing period. The school is decent sized but not so large it was overwhelming to find classrooms and be on time. Like most people who have multiple teachers, I had a mixed bag of teachers here. Some were amazing, some were ok, and some weren’t so great. Generally, though, I think I got a pretty good education and was prepared for high school. Along with my academic subjects, I got to participate in some great electives, including music(the music show!), art, musical theater, and stagecraft. One particularly amazing teacher brought in a couple of Holocaust survivors who were on Schindler’s list to speak to us. On the other hand, we also had a bunch of really fat gym teachers who laughed at us while we did our 20 minute run to bad oldies they played to recapture their lost youth. Everyone had PE teachers like that at some point though, right?! All in all, I was fortunate to go to a well-funded junior high school with mostly solid teachers and extracurricular activities.
