Quite possibly the worst retail experience we’ve ever had. It took five minutes for anyone to even appear at the counter. Once the owner showed, he wasn’t inclined to give us any information on the paint our builder said they carried. Then he said they had«something like that» but it won’t work and then he just walked off as of we weren’t even in the store. It’s especially frustrating because we purchased over $ 2k in blinds and had a similar lackadaisical(read: bad service) response. We only went back because of our builder. Prather will likely blame a big box retailer for his demise but the blame sits squarely on his shoulders.

Unreliable service. I called to order Hunter Douglas blinds and was told that Bruce would call me back. I did not get a call back for a few days so I called a second time and Bruce was available. We made an appointment for him to measure my windows. The appointment was made 6 days in advance. Bruce did not show up. He did not call to reschedule or say he was running late. He simply forgot the appointment and he never called me to apologize. I spoke to someone the following day who was very nice and apologetic and said he would relay the message. I never heard from Bruce again. No one called to apologize for wasting my time or to explain if some emergency had come up. This unreliable behavior seems to be a pattern based on other Unilocal reviews(read the hidden reviews). I have since given my business to a competitor(Ambiance) and they have been great from the first phone call.

I found them to be a little on the pricey side, perhaps due to their Wilmette address. Similar to the other review, we waited an inordinate amount of time for our plantation shutters order to come in with no updates from Prather along the way. We’re not thrilled with the way the shutters look and have received no response to a request to fix some gaps, despite multiple calls. Won’t use them again.

A mixed review based on our purchase of window treatments. Sam, the man who runs the window treatment part of Prather knows his stuff. He was very helpful in the selection of products. He also did an excellent job of measuring — difficult in our condo because the building was put up cheaply and the window openings are not square — so it would be easy to have blinds that did not fit if measuring was not done carefully. The installation work was done well and quickly, though not all at once because of a manufacturing mistake not the fault of Prather. The drawback in our purchase was the failure of Prather to follow up and keep us informed of progress on our order. We waited many many weeks from our purchase to the arrival of the products. We were not called or emailed about the delay and had to contact Prather twice ourselves to find out what was going on. Also, we followed the usual practice of putting down 50% of the sale price at the time of purchase with the remainder due at completion. We were surprised when after only some of the window treatments were in and we were still waiting on others, we were requested to pay the final 50%. Huh? Cash flow problem? Who knows. The physical job was done right and the Hunter-Douglas products are what we were hoping for. There were glitches in communication along the way.

We bought 4 gallons of paint for our hallway. After the painters painted the first coat we realized that the color we picked out was a horrible choice. We called and asked what could be done about this situation before heading out and purchasing more paint. The clerk informed us that they could actually remix the paint into another color. Bruce at the shop helped pick out a color that works perfectly and made no promises. When we got back to the store he actually matched the color perfectly. We appreciate his help and highly recommend Prather paint.
