This is a hard review to write because I wanted to like this place given the mom and pop nature and limited ethnic food in Buffalo… However, I just wasn’t that impressed. However, after eating at numerous Persian restaurants and also eaten homemade Persian food– it’s hard to compare. Pros: –the pomegranate soup was yummy and filling. A perfect soup for a cold day –chicken barg was moist and delicious –lamb shank was also moist and perfectly cooked –hummus was creamy –excellent service Cons: –the bread was more«bread-y» than I would have liked. A pita or flat bread would be a better accompaniment. –the Shiraz salad was more juicy than I would have liked– I prefer a drier salad –some of the dishes were lacking in flavor and depth. I know they’re trying to cater to a community that may not be accustomed to bold favors, but everything fell a bit bland If you want to venture into Persian food– this would be a good place to try. If you’re a Persian food veteran– this restaurant may be a bit of a let down.

Food was good. Had the lamb kabobs, Pomegranate soup(lentil soup basically) and the hummus. Very tasty. I was the only customer in the place from 6−7p on a thurs evening so the service was excellent. If you enjoy Mediterranean food, I would recommend it.

Horrible. By far the worst Persian restaurant I’ve ever been to. Dry and smelly meat, poor rice, and… It’s amazing this place still in business for this long!!!

Excellent service. Fresh food. Friendly family owners and staff. I stopped here with my mom, uncle and cousin after a bit of shopping. I was pleasantly surprised to find lots of fresh, tasty food listed on the menu. I ordered the hummus and pomegranate, lentil, etc soup. The hummus was creamy, flavorful and had a nice drizzle of olive oil on top. The pomegranate soup was just what I was looking for on this snowy evening. For dessert I ordered the tasty rice pudding. I suggest you try this place out for fresh food!

This is a really great place if you’re looking for something healthy in an area that doesn’t have much. We are vegan and found their vegetarian menu to be perfect during our time passing through the town. It was very clean and had a nice calming vibe. We came on a Monday evening, so it wasn’t busy and we served quickly.

We won a gift card at a raffle so stopped in. We were the only people there at first, several other parties came in after us. Decent but not memorable food. If I’m in the area I may stop in again but I won’t be going out of my way.

I know a few people that have raved about this place, but I was honestly disappointed. I am not sure if it was the time of the day or exactly what the issue was. I went here for lunch with a work colleague, and the service was a little bit on the slow side. My friend had the kabobs and really enjoyed them, and I decided to have the pomegranate walnut stew. I wouldn’t exactly call this a stew. it was more of a thick, somewhat greasy chicken paste, tasting mostly of oil and not really of much else. The rice was the best part of the meal. I was pretty disappointed overall.

I tried this place twice to give it a fair shot. Both experiences were the same… just blah. A little bit of salt goes a long way. The pomegranate soup was good but lacked seasoning. The pita looks to be homemade and is the best thing about this place. Servers were very nice, however service was way too slow. I ordered lamb both times, which was cooked nicely. However… upon my first visit I was served a delicious tzatziki and could not wait to have it again. Wuh-waaaaaaaaaa…my second visit proved to be more disappointing than the first when they served me straight up hot sauce. What?! They were out of tzatiki today, the waiter politely advised. Sorry Charlie… I cannot recommend.

Very very bland and they always seem to be out of things or no longer serving things on the menu. If i wanted a big plate of plain rice, I would save ten bucks and make it at home. They smother veggies in barbeque sauce and somehow charge 10 bucks for a plate of it. I gave this place two tries, and will not be returning for a third. Sorry to say but all of you people giving this place 4 or 5 stars obviously have poor taste or have not gone outside the box of «burger and fries» to know what good food tastes like. Either that or you must know the owner.

A good place that is never that busy. Get the kabob with the brown rice and lentils. It is a nice reprieve from the beef and chicken wings that are common to the Buffalo area. Very friendly staff and quick service.

I’m new to buffalo and tried out this place recently. Food and service are really good. I would definitely come back here and recommend it to friends. It was nice to find a halal restaurant in this area.

I was hunting for a new place to eat in the Buffalo area since a lot of places that I usually go to were packed because of the long weekend. We came across this place because they had a lot of fish options and vegetarian options too. I called their number and the person on the other end of the line seemed surprised that we were even ordering take out at all. I had to even explain what Tilapia was and it was on the menu. It was a weird experience. I also learned that their vegetarian stew options weren’t available any longer even though they were highlighted on the menu. I found it a little disturbing and annoying because we had to change our order on the fly. It seems like it is early days for this place and when I went to go pick up the food I had to wait a bit and remind them of the typical things one might need when doing take out(like cutlery, napkins, and various items that were on the order) but we all pulled through in the end. Staff was friendly and that is what made the difference for me. The saving grace for this place is the food. It really shines through at The Pomegranate and I urge people to try a lot of the food on their menu. The fish was spiced well and the roasted vegetables were not to be missed. I’d eat here again, but their service has to kick it up a notch to get a higher rating than 3⁄5

Glad to find this ethnic delight in an otherwise bland area. Amidst the gray skies, 8 lane roads, and cracking parking lots rests this take-out/dine-in gem. Pomegranate Stew was truly mouthwatering, especially when mixed with what appeared to be brown rice. Lentil soup and fattoush salad rounded out a taste-bud journey for two. Service was friendly, food was timely, prices were reasonable. This place is perfect for recovering alcoholics who don’t want to have to resort to low quality restaurants to avoid temptation…(I didn’t see alcohol menu). 4 stars due to location and limited beverages… If this Williamsville thing doesn’t work out for you guys, don’t give up. I believe there is a more supportive demographic waiting for you in Buffalo than way out where you are. Better yet, open a second location on Elmwood! Ill definitely be stopping in again next time I’m in the area.

A very solid 4 star — hold on a minute — you all know me and that cleanliness is extremely important. I rate everything with cleanliness in mind so I am going to up this rating to 5 stars because of the level of cleanliness I found here. However, I’m not going to start there … The Pomegranate Restaurant is unique — there was plenty of parking, they accept credit cards and YES the staff(at least the two that were there when we were there) were very pleasant and seemed eager to help us decide and even shared a few ingredient secrets with us! The selection is not huge, but varied with something for everyone — really — you will find something that you like — you may not have tried it before, but once you do — you will find yourself agreeing with me! Pricing was very good, but some of the chicken seemed be dried out. However, the smoothies — I will not be able to explain just how good they are — NONEEDFORSUGAR — I had the mixed berry and trust me — it’s real berries they put in there — LOTS and LOTS of them too! As for being clean — they have the very cleanest of restrooms I have ever seen — EVER! If that chicken wouldn’t have been dried out — this would have easily been a 5 star and we shall return in hopes of rewarding them with that extra star in the future. If you haven’t stopped in — check them out — add this to your list for sure!

I was very underwhelmed. They are not serving fully authentic Persian cuisine nor do any of their dishes, that should have pomegranate in it, actually have it. They get two stars for the chicken kabobs. But lose the rest on serving mediocre brown uncle bens fluffy lentil rice with it and poor presentation. I even ordered their saffron ice cream and they served it in a plastic frost bitten, not properly packed plastic to go container on an appetizer plate with a spoon and napkin. I was skeptical but thought to give it a try anyway. It tasted stale and the ice cream texture was watery and it melted so quick. Did I mention it was yellow? Yes that color yellow. I know saffron is yellow but this was just unappealing. Not coming back here except for the kabobs only because they were authentic and eating take out only.

What kind of Granite do they use in England, according to the Aussies(who call us Pommies)? Pommie Granite, of course! Duhhh. I’d love to tell you how bad Pomegranate is, but it can’t be put into words. I’m Persian, so I grew up on Persian food, and I’ve had the good, the very good, the amazing, the great, the fantastic, the bad, the mediocre, the okay, and the ugly. This, right here, was ugly. It’s massively overpriced, very into itself, the workers aren’t particularly friendly or helpful, the kebabs aren’t particularly tasty or well seasoned and don’t use particularly good meat, the rice is nothing special… in fact I can honestly say that between 50 family members and 50 other Persian restaurants, this is probably the least favourite Persian food I have ever had. The fact that it is the only place that serves Persian in Buffalo is definitely a shame, but I highly recommend you skip trying it because it won’t give you a fair impression of what Iranian food is. Instead, try some Lebanese at Rachel’s on Main(not so friendly, but very delicious), or some Iraqi food at Shish Kabob Express or Manakeesh & More both on Hertel, or some amazing Bosnian Food(the best kebabs in town) at Balkan Dining on Kenmore.

Came here with my best friend who does not eat anything with«2 eyes and a mom» so this places had enough choices for her. We were the only ones in there at lunch in Saturday so service was good. Started with the mango smoothie while I waited for the hummus. The smoothie lacked flavor and yogurt as well as the frozen fruit. I ordered the chicken barg. The meat itself had great flavor and was moist. I would have liked more. My friend had the veggie stew with walnuts. It was not your typical stew though. You ate it over the rice by the spoonful. I tried some and it was rich and nutty. The menu was minimal but enough options for meats and veggies. Prices were on the high side for the amount of meat you get.

I came here with a couple friends and we were the only customers, but they were very attentive to us. The menu offers tons of vegetarian options as well as non vegetarian options like kabobs. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. Next time I’m craving Persian food, I’ll come back here.

A Persian place with fast service near the Transit Rd Regal Theaters. The menu sports delicious Persian tea, a large slew of vegetarian options(from eggplant stew to various veggie stews) and lamb, shish kababs, Pomegranate Stew and a good deal of other healthy options. It’s all moderately priced ranging from $ 10 – 15; pretty inexpensive for the experience that you get. As Joseph mentioned in his review though, beware: it does get hot in here during the summer as their AC is nonexistent and/or doesn’t really work well. My girlfriend and I found this place thanks to Unilocal and caught dinner here before seeing a movie at the IMax. We were in and out in under 30 minutes and she ordered the eggplant dish, while I got the pomegranate stew. Her eggplant dish was beautifully presented with a little salad and distinctively flavored eggplant, although to my taste — was a bit bitter. Not sure if this is always prepared that way, but eech — it was tough to eat. On the other hand, I ordered the Pomegranate stew hoping to get some fall-of-the-bone delicious pomegranate chicken, akin to the likes that I’ve had in San Francisco. I was disappointed with a plate of tasty rice and what seemed like blended up /ground chicken in some pomegranate marinade. The flavors were overpowering, while the consistency of the chicken was not to my liking. I’ll definitely be back here and try the kabab’s and update my review accordingly, but for now — it’s just A-OK. Diverse menu, lots of options, but it hasn’t blown me away.
