Pretty good for a mall with four big anchor stores dominating the edges of the mall layout — JCPenney, Bön-Ton, Sears and Macy’s. In the middle, the usual assortment of mall shops and chains that exist nearly everywhere. Jewelry stores, a plethora of cell carriers and cell phone repair shops, clothing, bed & bath, shoes. The food court is rather on the small side with Arby’s, Chinese, pizza and an Orange Julius holding up the place. The walkways and interior of the mall are in very good condition and there was plenty of room for walking around, despite the after-work crowd doing their Christmas shopping. Plenty of parking too. Four stars, I’m a fan!

Wyoming Valley Mall is arguably the best mall in Northeast Pennsylvania. It’s located in the heart of Wilkes-Barre Township’s buildup that includes numerous new shopping centers and the Mohegan Sun Arena. Until the malls mid 2000’s renovations it was rather dark and shady, but since has become brightly lit and has security patrols, making it a reasonably nice place to shop. Mall is deceptively large with four anchors. Has all the usual clothing and shoe stores you’d find at most malls, GameStop, f.y.e., etc. It’s a rather average mall that has done a good job at keeping vacancies to a minimum. Wyoming Valley Mall has several potential future issues and is in a similar situation to Williamsport’s Lycoming Mall. JCPenney and Sears both have stores at this mall, and neither chain is in good shape. Food court is almost nonexistent now, but it’s not a major loss due to the significant options available in the surrounding area. Arcade is also gone and replaced. This mall has lots of space and should have been expanded into a super-regional mall like the Lehigh Valley Mall or King of Prussia Mall in the mid 2000’s to avoid the gaudy Shoppes At Montage construction.

WVM is a Wilkes-Barre Township mainstay that has not only survived but modernized despite the continuous development on and around the property. It doesn’t seem like much if it’s the only mall you’ve shopped in your lifetime, but in comparison to other PA malls, this is a solid four stars. King of Prussia would be five(obviously) and Steamtown Mall(small and brutal parking) would be three stars. Where WVM does well is its complete occupancy rate where not only are the stores full, they’re updated iterations of the stores. The mall is tiny compared to more urban areas, but the size adds to its coziness and convenience. As far as things you need, well, you don’t really«need» anything at a mall. But to be an effective shopper, you can grab what you came for and be gone in very little time.

As another review stated, this is one of the better malls in the area, surprisingly. Steamtown in Scranton may have a slight leg up. If you are looking for a better retail therapy experience you may have to venture all the way to King of Prussia. My typical consumer needs can be satisfied at the Wyoming Valley Mall. It is also located around many other businesses in the WB, so if you don’t find it at the mall you are bound to find it within a 5 mile radius.

It really doesn’t look like much from the outside, but this is a pretty decent mall. All you can see when you’re circling is the anchor stores, Macy’s, Bontons, Sears, and JC Penny(I think), but once you’re in there’s cute little stores all throughout. I’m from California, and am completely AMAZED that there’s no sales tax on clothes. That’s basically like, a 9% discount on everything in my head. The staffs at all the stores were very friendly and kind. I didn’t have any problems and got to hide from the rain(gahhh), but I got bored after about two hours. Maybe I’m spoiled from going shoppign in Union Square, but hey, it’s worth an afternoon trip.
