Rosewood Ranch Centers for Eating Disorders

My daughter was admitted to Rosewood Spring 2015. I’ll keep the emotions out of it but understand they lie. Every single person I dealt with lied. My daughter has Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. 1) Pre admission I verified that she had a very limited diet and was on a feeding tube and they said they’d modify her diet — what that means to Rosewood is to remove feeding tube and feed her chili — you read the correctly beans tomatoes spices. 2) There is no therapy art, horse, or dog 3) They did disposed of all her mail to me 4) They monitor phone calls and tell them what they are allowed to say 5) Upon finally speaking to my daughter after about a week it became clear they do not work with CVS nor POTS. 6) She told them I was picking her up in 3 days and they threatened her all day every day until I arrived. 7) They called me 3x or more a day threatening me 8) I called our insurance and registered a complaint about the harassment and lies they said that going home would cause insurance not to pay and they would have to transfer her to a hospital by ambulance if she left 9) I thought I’d have to call the Sheriff in Wickenburg to get her out. 10) They kept all her meds, so I had to purchase new meds when I got her home 11) They did not give her heart medications to her 12) I’ve received 2 bills for Emergency Kit drugs which insurance doesn’t cover when she had meds with her 13) They will tell you that anyone who posts online is a «very sick person and you can’t believe what they say». Well there may be some sick people but there standard line is to tell every person there they have an eating disorder and every person has to go to Alcoholics Anonymous every day. Seriously deranged people are put with the young people. My daughter has PTSD from being there only a week. There were young people there for almost a year or until insurance runs out. Don’t believe a word they say… they lie and should be shut down. I haven’t written a letter to Better Business Bureau yet, I’m still so upset.

Our child attended rosewood for over a month. Initially they seemed like straightforward and professional staff. Yet… here we are today. Well over 6 months after paying all the bills and attending family week. Just, today, got a bill for over 1500. I reviewed the contract with Rosewood we signed before admitting our child. After paying over 8000 out of pocket and being «in network» with our insurance company they decide to change the rules. No 30 day notice… no 60 day notice… just two bills that declare «over 90 days» delinquent. We agreed upfront exactly what we would pay, and its in writing. We paid exactly what we agreed! not enough that we have struggled with our child’s ED… its compounded by the very place we sent our child to get help.
Perhaps the biggest issue is «efficacy.» While were there, there were plenty of Rosewood residence who had been to 8,9,10 treatment centers. ALL of our child’s cohorts have been to, at least, one more center since Rosewood. I highly caution you to go to look elswhere.
Finally, they gave a big spiel about follow-​up care… nonsense! We arrived home and had to scramble to get a therapist and medical professional ourselves. Needless to say… relapse happened worse than before treatment. Our child suffered while WE searched for effective post treatment center help.
Here we are now… our adult child is living at home… under our care… nutritionist recently got on board… a good physician is on board… and a decent therapist is on board. I wouldn’t waste your time with Rosewood. Get a local: nutritionist, psycho-​therapist, and physician/​psychiatrist on your own and save yourself a whole lot of trouble.

There were a lot of recent staff changes when I went and I think the issues I had mainly came from that. There was definitely confusion from the staff (the Higher up staff like therapists and the doctor). But the nurses and everyone you interact with everyday was fantastic! I loved all of the people that took care of us. They had all actually experienced ED or addiction and could completely relate to our struggle. I would have felt so alone without the staff to talk to at the beginning. The therapy here is the greatest I have ever had at any treatment center. The other patients were a little judgmental at first (hello ED) but everyone adjusted to the new person after a day or two and we are all still great friends. Calls and visits are limited but I’m sure it’s for our own good. I would definitely return here if I could afford the flight. Also Arizona is beautiful :) and the food was good too. It would suck to have to eat gross food but it was all fantastic!

This is a work in progress, as I want to give the explicit truth about this facility and many of it’s staff members.
From what happened to me, this facility is willing and able to take on most psychiatric and or addiction type problems that may come. If the intake and or intro people think for a minute that you may have any indication of needing mental help or having a psychiatric disorder like eating, they will almost go to no lengths to ensure that you are admitted to their facility. By the way, they get $ 1500.00 per day for each individual at their facility. I was an average male who took care of his body by eating the right kinds of foods and ensuring I got enough exercise to keep my 47 year old body in decent shape.
My attention to my health was a jealous little pill for some to swallow, and they subsequently made up a rouse, stating that I had a full blown eating disorder. Yes,
I am 5’11″ and weigh 160 lbs, with a very solid BMI of 22. Not having gained or lost weight within the last 8 years. Tested in the extremely healthy percentile for blood, cholesteol, blood pressure, etc. and had about 13% body fat. This did not sit well with the WIDE BODIES, that were around me. Also, I did not have nor have i ever had any of the symptoms or behaviors that are exhibited by persons with Eating Disorders.
So, Rosewood says, he likes to eat well and exercise. Sounds like he has an eating disorder. I was subsequently forced by my employer and the grunts at Rosewood, to admit to their facility, or i would have my job removed within days. Seeing as I have only 5 years left to retire, I felt it would only be a matter of time at Rosewood, to prove that I was not a diabolical Eating Disorder mess, and they would set me free, to live the normal life I had grown accustomed.
No Such Luck. As I did everything they asked, attended their classes, their group meetings, ate their specific food, and followed their silly rules, for 21 days. Only to be told by the Registered Dietitian and the ED Therapist, that I don’t have an Eating Disorder. BUT they stated, we think you could get something from this treatment… What??? No Shit… Everyone in the world could get something from this, But I don’t need to be placed in a semi-​prison of food and monitoring to «get something» They wanted me to move to a lesser monitored and less intrusive facility for further growth, full knowing that I didn’t have an Eating Disorder.
This place is a scam in whole, however their are some quality features.
Food is done well. Some of the staff, maybe 10% are respectful and knowledgeable. The cleanliness is ok,
