I drove ten miles to shop for books only to find the business is closed down. Bummer.

This not your granny’s bookstore. Being Wickenburg, I expected the shelves to be lined with well-thumbed western paperbacks or trashy romance novels with half-naked Fabios on every cover. I am humbly here to tell you, this place is pleasantly different. Hours: Can I tell you how happy I am to have something that’s open later than 5PM in this town?! –Tuesday-Thursday 9:00AM-6:00PM, Friday 12:00PM-9:00PM, Saturday 9:00AM-4:00PM. –closed Sunday and Monday Prices: higher than a second-hand store or yard sale, but worth it. -$ 4 used paperback books -$ 3 used DVDs –can also«trade-in» nice quality books for 50% off a book purchased in-store Inventory: –bookstore-quality trade paperbacks and hardbacks –vast selection of fiction, lots of off-beat/“indie” as well as classic reads –non-fiction spans from self-help to at-home projects to biographies –kids section, again only«gently used», no baby barf stains here –two very nice modern computers for internet browsing, available to use for a small fee –free coffee(donations appreciated) –pie(whole or by the slice) for sale Atmosphere: –a little cramped, looking forward to the possibility of her expanding to the space next door –folding table with chairs for reading, sipping coffee, conversation –books are shelved from(pretty much) floor to ceiling, be prepared to crouch/kneel/lie dramatically on the floor to browse. –Jessica, the owner, is really personable. Most of the books in this shop are from her own library(she’s an avid reader)! There’s a couple things I’m hoping for: –more comfortable seating so I can curl up and read for awhile whilst nomming on peach pie –more space so people feel comfortable browsing –a game night! Since they’re open«late» on Friday nights, I’m hoping she’ll start this up eventually. –more DVDs. The DVDs she DOES have are great(Wes Anderson and the like), hoping she keeps up the stock! –A/C. The front window is large and lets in a lot of heat. Fear not, Louis L’Amour and Nora Roberts lovers, she has your paperbacks too; but for the artsy reader with an independent streak, I think you’ll find yourself walking out of Once Around with an armful of books.
